When I go to get my YZF-250 ready for next season, what should I have done? (Besides a basic tune up)

How long has it been since your last topend? If more then a season and you ride it hard you may be due. While in there I would replace the cam chain
Have you recently checked and adjusted your valves? Should be a preseason and at least mid season item.
Clean out old gas from tank and carb bowl
Fill brake systems with new brake fluid and bleed systems. While doing this check your brake pads to see condition- replace if necessary
Thouroughly clean airbox and boot. Make sure your airfilter(s) are in good condition- no rips or separating seams
Check drive chain for stretch and replace if beyond spec. Check sprockets and replace if worn (do not put a new chain on old sprockets)
Check your spokes for any loose or broken ones.
Check torque on any and all bolts/nuts you can.
Regrease bearings-steering stem, swingarm,wheel hubs- if any are sloppy or missing parts replace them.
We also replace the boot that connects the carb to engine head before each new season all both of our YZ250Fs. We had the carb fall off during races because this boot was in poor condition due to the constant flexing and hot/cold cycles. We also now use wire zipties to secure the carb to the head as a further preventative measure- it is not a good feeling watching your son going off a 80 foot triple and having the bike stall midair because the carb popped off.
Adjust clutch cable and lube both clutch and throttle cables.
Most of these are do it yourself items and should be done frequently during the season
