Arm Pump?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have often read about arm pump being due to fatige but I'm not even sure of the symtoms. I sometimes get a sharp pain accross my righ hand while standing about 30-40 mins into a ride. Makes it very painfull to twist the throtle. Could that be considered arm pump? I'm 5'10 190lbs w/o riding gear still have stock front springs (for now). Has anybody else had this problem before? Could it be my riding stance, handle bars position/bend?

Arm pump is when you are going way fast into a turn and you try to squeeze the brake lever, but your fingers don't respond. The muscles in your forearms basically lock up so you have very little strength in your hands.

You problem sounds more like an ergonomics issue. Do what krazyinski said and find the right bar postion, width, and height for you.

Many symptoms of pump, my main symptom is numbness and it's worse in the winter when you don't get to ride as often because every thing stays standing in water around here. WHen I'm able to ride several times a week it doesn't bother me. Get you a couple of those things you sqeeze with your hands and do that while your sitting around, I forget what you call em, they have helped me almost totaly aliminate pump.

My arm pump was always the whole forearms after several constant rough minutes. The last time I had arm pump was before I started lifting weights seriously. If the pain is only your throttle hand, it could be you just need some more conditioning. Oh yeah, and eat bannanas, take your vitamin, and drink milk! Hee hee...

That is very possible. Thanks for the replys guys, I should be able to fix the problem now......well maybe when the four feet of snow melt and it gets about 50 degrees warmer.

Grab the shrouds with your knees, loosen your grip, stretch your arms & hands before the ride & take 800mg of Ibupropion about 30min before you ride. It acts as an anti-inflamation & my doc recommended & it does help

800mg is a heck of a dose. I only take 300 for a crippling elbow pain I sometimes get.

It's an allowable dose/Max 4-6hrs. You will notice you will not be as sore after or the next day.

I second the 800mg of Ibpro. It does seem to work well. Squeezing a tennis ball in you spare time also helps. That was my training after breaking my throttle wrist and arm. Good as new now.
