Hi I am an 18 year old girl, I am about 5'5 .5, and weigh about 135. I am very athletic and can handle alot of power. And I have had my ttr125 for 1 summer and feel like it is just not fast enough for me, i feel like im growing out of it already. If I were to upgrade to the next best thing without killing myself what do you think i should do, or should I just completely mod out my ttr (would it even be worth it)?. I would really appreciate everyones help...

I have been looking at alot of diff. things and how 2 strokes have alot of maint. I've been looking at 85's and then the kx100.

But then theres four strokes with low maint. But honestly what do you think would be the best thing for me.. please help!!!

Depending on how you ride, 2 strokes don't require any more maintenance than a 4 stroke.

Let face it, you are going to want to spend a fair amount of time with your hands on your bike. If not, you will discover things at times that aren't really beneficial.

For example. I was out in the garage this week getting my bikes ready for the season. I was just doing routine stuff. I discovered the rear axle nut was loose on my CR. Would have been really nasty to find that out as my rear wheel passed me in the air on a jump.

I would much rather find out about a cracked frame or missing bolts in my garage, than on the track. Or even at the track.

You'd probably do well on a KX100. Good bike with good power. I like my YZ85, but it doesn't have a power valve, so the power hit is a bit harsh. The hit on a KX100 isn't quite as bad. But it will scream.

If you want to spend a lot of money, there's a lot you can do the the TTR125.

On another note, don't cross post, that gets Okie a bit testy.

I bought my daughter a 2002 kx100 and she loves it.She is 20 now and about 5'5 and 115 or so.She has been on it for 4 years now.I did have Eric port it for more low end to help her in turns etc.She came off a xr100 and is happy with newer challenge of better suspension and power available.I don't think you would regret going to a kx by any means.

Why not look into 125 2 strokes? At 5'5" you might feel cramped on a KX100.

I tried out a friends KX100 a few years ago and I felt cramped on it. I'm 5'3" 115.

IF the TT-R isn't doing it for you anymore then the KX100 or a CRF150R not F may be just the ticket. I'd skip modding the crap out of the TT-R.

Posted by: Mariesa18---------------------

But do you think a 125 2 stroke will be too much for me to jump to with only riding for like a year? Thanks for all of your replies by they way

Posted by: 150rguy---------------------

The 150r is and easy bike to ride like the ttr125 with loads more power and better suspension. It doesn't take 8 hours of maintenence after every ride, it takes some but not a super bunch. a 100 2t would be nice for you to, but If you feel cramped on it then a 125 would be good, maybe if you shaved some seat foam.

If you think jumping a 125 is too much then you should try a XR650.

No, I rode an XR100 for about 3 months and went to a 125 2 stroke.

This enters the equation how? Has anyone suggested she get a XR650?

Posted by: Mariesa18---------------------

I just went and looked at some bikes today.. I think I'm going to be leaning more towards a 125 2 stroke now.... any replies or advice on which brand would be best to get for my situation!!?? thanks all

Posted by: 150rguy---------------------

Ive always heard that yamahas are the best, but I think theyre the tallest.

Posted by: MXGirl230---------------------

If you look at 2000 and newer I recommend a Yamaha. You will probably have to shave the seat down a little. Like 150rguy said, they are tall.

Posted by: motometal---------------------

I wish you could test ride a KX100 set up for your height and weight, taller handlebars and correct springs etc., I think you'd love it. Don't get me wrong, you can have a lot of fun on the 125 too but on the KX100 once you get used to the bike you could really "be the boss" over it...they only weigh 160 pounds. Night and day different from the TTR. The RM85L is actually a little "bigger" ergonomically I think and more modern technology, but with a bit peakier motor.

The good news if you buy any 2 stroke is that they are still great bikes just like they have always been, but are getting really cheap due to the popularity of the four strokes and the racing rules.

Thanks everyone.... Yea im having a real hard decision between the kx 100 and a 125.... I just think maybe the 125 will last long... and I deffinately would want to learn how to race, and go on tracks, but then again the 100 would probably be way easier to handle.. aahhhh

i bought my KX125 when i was 5'4'' and about 115lbs.( but that was a while ago ), it took some getting used to, but now i can whip it around pretty easily. i sat on a KX100 for the heck of it before i bought my bike and i felt cramped. the 100 will be easier at first, but youll want something bigger pretty soon. the YZ's are the tallest stock dirt bikes you can buy , so i wouldnt suggest it. the Kawasaki's and Suzuki's are the cheapest 125's right now, and theyre on the smaller side, so i would look into it.

Posted by: mongial---------------------

It has been my experience that the newer KX, YZ, and RM 125's make the smooth power, while the KTM's put it all in the top. Not real sure about the CR but what I have heard they are much like the KTM.
You definately need a bit of time to get used to a 125, but I don't think you coud make a better choice in the end.

Posted by: Mariesa18---------------------

ok one more thing everyone.. I just went to another dealership today, and i looked at the CRF150R? what about that bike? you think that maybe too much for me? I just like the idea that its a four stroke, because i have no idea how to ride a 2 stroke... answers? opinions? Also while I was there two of the guys said that they arent making 125's anymore, and that that any brand would be the worst bike to buy because all of their motors are bad, and they just arent good bikes? is that true?

Posted by: mongial---------------------

The guys that told you that need to be hauled out to the desert and shot in the face and burned Ok that was overboard. How people get off by saying that the motors are bad is a flat out lie. A 125 2 stroke would be easier to maintain and less expensive than the new 150R (which is still a hell of a bike). I think that the 150R might be a bit on the small side but what do I know. I feel that a nice used 125 will give you way more bang for your buck than the 150R.

Posted by: motometal---------------------

for initial cost, reliability, and cost of maintenance/repairs there is no comparison...two stroke will be cheaper on average. I'm sure the 150 is a great bike, but relatively new and unproven...A blown motor could cost as much as a good used two stroke motorcyle...the whole thing! (I may be exaggerating a bit but not by far)

as I was saying, most people that have sat on a KX100 or RM85L haven't given it a fair chance if the bike is brand new, because the stock bars are for kids/shorter folks, adults and taller people need taller bars, and possibly different springs (which you may need on a 125 anyway). I'm 5'11" 165 lb with gear and have an absolute blast on my RM85L, in the woods or on the track. There's nothing wrong with a 125 either, but I wouldn't write off the 100 as "too small" for 5'5" . My wife is about that height and had a blast on the KX100. Also, the 100 may actually have smoother low end, at least I remember it being that way back when I had both a KX100 and a KX125 (the 100 had more low end than the 125).

If you did get a 125, if you wanted to you could lower it a bit by modifying the suspension, MXTech will provide this service.

Posted by: 150rguy---------------------

I find that if you ride a bike you feel cramped on and you grow to feel normal on it. Well thatS how I feel, but I dont know about other people.

Posted by: Yamadad---------------------

I'd say stick to the KX100 or a 125 two stroker. They are light, plenty of power and lots of room to grow.

The CRF150 is a great little putter, but they are underpowered and heavy for their size. From what you describe, I think you'd out grow it very rapidly.

we are talking about a CRF150R not CRF150F.

Posted by: snb73---------------------

Go to the dealer and sit on a KX100 and a few different 125's. See which one fits you the best. Any current 125 is a good solid bike. Just pick your favorite color and get the newest bike you can afford. My girlfriend is 5'5" and is very comfortable on her 2003 RM100. (same bike as the KX100, just a different color)

The KX/RM100's have a powervalve and are very user friendly. They equally comfortable can lugging around the trails or screaming and jumping on the MX track.

The CRF150F is a trail bike, like your TTR. The CRF150R is a true race bike like it's bigger brothers the CRF250R and CRF450R.

2 strokes have more maintenence than a 4 stroke trail bike but rebuilds are 4 times cheaper than a 4 stroke race bike.

The 2 stroke learning curve isn't a difficult thing. To be honest any "race bike" will be an eye opener after your TTR.

Good luck, Steve.
