how much to buy a 1997 crf250 or 1997 xr250 dont kow if they had the crf then

Posted by: 2 strokes for life---------------------

Man have you ever seen a 1997 CRF250. There is a reason to it. The CRF did not come till 01 or 02 but correct me if i am wrong. A used XR250 will run you from $500 to $1000 for a 86 or so, and $1000 to $2000 for anything to preasent day. They are really easy to find in http://geo.craigslist.org/iso/ca

u think i can get an 96 or newer xr250 for 1000 to 2000 what about a 01 02 crf250

Posted by: 2 strokes for life---------------------

A used CRF is not the best of ideas. Most CRFs were made to race ( with the eception of the CRF230 and lower) and they ushally were rased. Unlike a XR the CRF is a liquid cooled race machine with great suspension. Most people seeling there CRFS, YZFS, RMZS, and KXFS are selling the bikes because they have been worn in and broken and rat bagged. The last time i went racing in the 125 class most riders of the 250F bomb started there bikes to the gates because they could not kick start it. But this is only the average sale. In some cases the biike has never been raced and will start on the first kick. A late modle CRF250R will cost around $4000 and up. Most cases you get what you pay for.

what do you think of a 1997 xr250 or newer do you have a recomened year?

Posted by: robbie_new---------------------

i kind of want crf230 what do you think of these bikes

Posted by: 4thGearAndPinned---------------------

The XR250 is very, very more capable than the CRF230.

Okay, that's just a ridiculous statement.

Mabe in lala land it is, but where i come form that is what most people do them. You have to remeber that i live in the same province as rob and all the bikes here are almost the same case.

I like the CRF230 for easy riding and small jumps and bumps. The electric start is awsome. The suspension dose well for what it was made for but nothing really more. With some heavier springs and a revalve it dose wounders for the bike.

Posted by: 4thGearAndPinned---------------------

I guess that's what you get when canadians buy high performance four strokes.

Posted by: 2 strokes for life---------------------

Well, not to be putting down my country but they think that race ready bikes that are four strokes figure it is like there car or lawn mower. This is only the average amount of people some actualy take care of there bikes.

okay thanks for the info the crf230 is probably what i will buy because all i will be riding is woods and trails maybe some mud but thats it

don't discount the XR250. It will have better suspension than the CRF, but it doesn't have electric start. And it's taller.

Either bike would be a good choice for playing around in the woods.

The XR250 is alot heavier and is harder to start but the suspension is fairly good. Also look and see if there are any XR200s in the paper. www.powroll.com sells alot of performance parts for the XRs and CRFs.

That doesn't jive with my XR250 experience at all. Mine was always a really easy starter, and I can't see the weight being much heavier than the 230, since it (XR) has no starter motor or battery. As long as the height isn't a problem, I'd opt for the xr250 myself, as the suspension has better travel and the 4-valve motor has better power and potential.. Just my 2 cents.

Posted by: 2 strokes for life---------------------

Some say the XR250 starts easy but others think it starts hard. I think they are hard compared to the XR650.

Posted by: 4thGearAndPinned---------------------

What kind of xr250 are you starting that is tougher than an xr650?
Are you really 14 years old?

Posted by: Patman---------------------

I'd be more inclined to go with the XR250, of course that's what I have LOL! But I've ridden 230's and frankly it's a nice bike for what it is but it's not going to keep your interest for a long time. The XR250 while not a full on race bike would be a very good choice for a play bike that is very able to race in the woods with anything current. As an added bonus you'll do a lot less maintenance. Keep the valves adjusted properly and the XR250 should be an easy bike to start. Oh and adjusting those valves is significantly easier than on a shim and bucket hot rod. If you feel the need to upgrade there are lots of possibilities that will give you plenty of power while still keeping the bike very reliable.

I've ridden it, and it ROCKS! Pat's 284cc machine has as much snoot as a stock XR400, and superior suspension with the KX boingers.

Posted by: 2 strokes for life---------------------

4thGearAndPinned, I am 14 turing 15 this may and it was an 84 or so. I think a newer one would be alot easer to start. Or it could be me because i am used to starting 2 strokes.

Patman, that has got to be the coolest XR250 i have ever seen.
