(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

hey,
i could get 2 helmets but i'm still debating which one i should get. could you help me out and also tell me why you picked that particular helmet:

Arai VX-PRO3

EVS TakT 981

or what other helmet would you advise me to get?

help me please

The FX-9 from AFX. It is super light weight, dot approved, and only a whopping $44. If it has the dot approval, all helmets are virtually the same, minus color/paint scheme.

Things should get pretty interesting real soon...

he's blabbered that non-sense before.

yz426f, if you know what a "stress test" is, try it on your $44 Helmet and a $400 dollar Arai, you'll see the difference.

If you think your head is worth 40 bucks, go for it

I once saw a picture in Dirt Bike mag of an Arai helmet totally bashed in and the rider survived it with no damage to himself.

The picture sure put a price on the true market value of a helmet.

Granted if I had $500 to spend on a lid I surely would after seeing that picture.

For now though I use a $150 Answer helmet because it's comfortable and I can afford it.

Moral of the story is "buy the best that you can afford"

Along the lines of "If you think your head is worth 40 bucks, go for it "

"If you have a $10 head, Buy a $10 helmet" - sign above all the helmets at my local motorcycle parts store

well money is always an issue but I am willing to suck it up if it is worth it. i just wanted to know if the arai was worth the price it cost even for a rider like me that only rides every other weekend. (i do value my brain and my head though). i just wanted to hear some inputs. also do you think it is a good price for an Arai replica vx-pro3 ($410)?

Posted by: Richter415---------------------

I wear Arai Helmets for on road and off. I'm now on my 2nd MX arai and for my head although its arguable if its worth that much... I'm going to buy arais from now on. They are the most comfortable and safest helmet I've ever seen. And my family owns a dealership so I've seen many helmets.

Posted by: Sawblade---------------------

Check out a Bell Moto 8. I just purchased one and really like the fit and feel.

Posted by: patto3---------------------

I say go for the 06 clearence sales. I just bought a fox V3 and its wirth $500, but I got it for $270. Awsome helmet, fits good, its light and most importantly, it looks trick!

Posted by: 02yz426f---------------------

So you're telling me if my $44 helmet is snell and dot approved, and your $500 is snell and dot approved, what is the difference?

Posted by: 76GMC1500---------------------

Fox V3's are going for $150 on motorcycle-superstore.com

Personally, I wear a HJC AC-X1 and think it's very comfortable.

the material in which its made of?
the way in which its made?
the size of the shell?
the fit?
the design?

honestly dude, do a stress test on your helmet ($44) and do even a $200 helmet. You'll see a HUGE difference.

Posted by: 76GMC1500---------------------

I take that back, the V3's are going for $130 now and Thor's SVR Chrome helmet is going for $90.

Posted by: SpeedyManiac---------------------

Snell and DOT are a minimum. To be approved a helmet must meet or exceed the tests. Low end helmets meet the standard, high end helmets EXCEED it. Also, low end helmets are heavy and sometimes don't fit very well. You definitely get what you pay for (to a certain extent). Personally I'm a fan of HJC helmets. Great helmets for the price.

Posted by: blarf---------------------

yea, the arai are nice but i don't think i can afford it. my budget is around $300-350.... i was thinking maybe the EVS TakT 981 or maybe a Shark helmet. now, I'm sure there are some differences between a $50 helmet and a $500+ one. how about a mid-$300 and a $500???

i cannot find any review on the takt 981 helmet.

Posted by: blarf---------------------

by the way, i really appreciate you guys helping. I'm still fairly new to the offroad world and i need to learn a lot.

Posted by: 02yz426f---------------------

just buy the helmet that fits and is in your price range. A $44 helmet is still better than nothing.

Not by much, but yes.

True BUT a helemet should be the last thing you compromise for price. That and boots you can wear a cheap jersey pant etc.(not that you should), but a helemet and boots shouldn't be compromised by price.

I for one totally agree with that.

As I said before.

is a $330 helmet, a bad helmet? as i said, i was looking for review on that EVS TakT 981 helmet but it seems that it is too new and nobody has it. i guess I'm gonna have to buy it and review it. what do you think?
is EVS a good company?

From what I have heard EVS is a good company although I have no expirence with them. 300 is not a bad helemet. If I could afford it I would buy a Aria but as of now I'm doing my best with a M2R. Good luck on your decision.
