1 1/8" hands down. The one piece clamp/ bar mt. on my '98 uses 7/8" bars. I had to replace my handlebars just about every race. My '04 came stock with a 1 1/8" Renthal bar. After countless lowsides and encounters with high speed bark, it still looks new and has nary a bend. I'll never buy a 7/8" bar again.

I run the Pro-Taper SE, mainly becuase both my bikes came stock with 7/8" clamps, and I don't see the need to switch to fat bars.

a good clamp with a set of twinwalls you cant beat it

Fat Bars rule!! Pro taper, Tag, Renthals, Moose, any of them are 100 times better, stronger, and tougher than 7/8. I have had the same set of Pro Tapers on my bike for over 5 years, have had several crashes that would have destroyed the 7/8 bars I replaced, and they still look new despite the sticker loss, and marks from tie downs.

My bike came with 7/8 clamps and so that is what I use. After market clamps on a dirt bike are a waste of money if your not racing for cash. I think 11/8 bars are stronger and easier too hang onto. I just wouldn't pay to get new clamps.

1 1/8" bars survive way more betterer in crashing, me thinks

Ummmmm, don't crash? That would solve a lot of problems!
