I have saved up about 5000 for a bike. I either want a kx250f or im also thinking of getting a yz 125. what do you think I should do, go 2 stroke or 4 stroke?

i have a yz 250f and love it it is a 05 and iam selling it only to get a 07. was riding a 01 125 cr and the 250f is way better i think. as far as maintianing them, bot have there ups and downs but i feel the 4 stroke preforms better so i would go 4.

It depends...are you buying new? If yes, then I would go with the KX250F. If you plan to buy something a few years old, I would go with a different brand. From what I remember the Suzuki and Kawi 250 4-strokes had some major issues for a few years. Even the die-hard fans stayed away for a while. Im not sure of the exact years. Im sure you can do a search here and find out. You might want to consider a CRF or go with Yamamha. Either way...good luck with your purchase.

freind of mine hadthe 1st kx 250f and had a lot of problems but the 07 06 are good if older than that the crs are reilable but you cant beat the yz 4 stroke

In my opinion, unless you're going to race (and especially if this is your first bike), then go with a 125 2 stroke because they are more simple engines and the maintence is more basic and they will also teach you to be a better rider because you will have to keep it in the powerband. While a fourstroke will overall be a little faster, they have more complex engines and the maintence is more complicated (such as checking valves). Either way, you'll be making a good choice though. Also, if you do decide to go with a 2 stroke, i'd buy a used 2005 or 2006 because you will save a couple thousand, and the bikes haven't changed a whole lot in the last couple of years.

How can anyone answer the question? The original poster didn't give enough info for any kind of valid opinion.

There is a reason this thread ( CLICK ME ) exists.

from 05-07 they havnt changed at all. the yz chaged their suspension for 07. Speed sensitive dampning. But the honda gets praised for having great suspension and handling from what I have been reading. Never ridden one though

on top of Raccoon's post, the 04-05 KXF/RMZ250s were the years he was referring to, but they dont blow up on everybody. plus, if you maintain a 4T reguarly, itll definetly last longer. the 06-07 KX250F is light years better everywhere, including reliability over the previous year models. the CRF250R's are said to have valve issues, but the KTM is supposed to be even worse. im also planning on getting an 06/07 KX250F, so id shoot for the KXF if you have the guts, but a 125 will definetly require less maintenance.
