I've been riding quads for about 6 years now. I'm plain tired of them, their expensive, brakes a lot and takes no skill to ride. I rode my friend's Cr125 and fell inlove with bikes. Now I want my own. Price dosen't matter. I want to race motocross or supercross next summer of 08 so I want to get a bike thats up-to-date. I was looking at the 07 RMZ450s. What do you guys think about them. I've heard they are very good bikes, tons of power, handles nicely ect. Do you recommend any other bikes? I want to steer away from Hondas and be different also.
1) your physical size -6' 200 lbs
2) How physical / aggressive are you ?When it comes to racing I'm very agressive.
3) what do you plan to ride- MX/SX tracks, woods, fields with friends or ?????-Mx Tracks
4) Do you have any riding experience?Rode a 125, and a 80
5) Do you think you will race ? Yes
6) Are you mechanically inclined and will you be doing your own bike work? Yes
7) Do YOU have a preferance to a brand/ motor choice (2 or 4 stroke)? Four Stroke
8) Do you have a dealer close by your home that you might use and what brand(s) does he carry? No
9) How much do you plan to spend on a bike? No price range
10) Do you live in California? No
11) anything else that you think would help form an opinion Nope.

I dont think it would be a good idea to start out on a 450. I dont care how many years youve spent on quads, a bike is a whole new ballgame.
If it were me, Id start out on a 125 or 250F and once you can ride one of those with confidence then move up to a 250 smoker or 450F.
A 450 is a big, heavy, powerfull bike and its not something that a novice should be on.

What 250f do you recommend? I want to steer away from two smokes.

any of the 5 major brands will be good for you. Pick a colour that you like and go with it.

If you are looking for the best bike for you, why would you take out the Honda? Either way, considering you know the basics of throttle control, braking etc.. I would look at getting a 450 for your size. Will you be using all the power it has? Nope, but as you gain more experience, it will be there when you want it.

If you want to go with the 450 then get one, no one says you have to be wide open all the time, it is easy to ride a 4 stroke slowly. Besides you can still get just as hurt on a 250f. An 05 and up RMZ 450s are good but only the 07 RMZ 250s are good bikes as far as Suzuki is concerned. You can also get Suzuki's for less than the others usually. In late 06 I bought my 05 Suzuki RMZ 450 brand new for $5100. It is reliable easy to ride feels very light and easy to work on, and its fast

for sure 450 if you are going to race and with your size you need the bigger bike

The one you ruled out is mechanically the best choice,in my opinion. One cam and separate oil in trans,I am sold!

So you guys think I should go with Honda 07 450 over an Suzuki 07 450?
Posted by: rickyd---------------------
Yes. Don't rule out the others though, go by a dealer that carries a few different brands and take a look (sit) on them.

Id personally go with a Honda over a Suzuki. The Suzuki 4-strokes are kinda known for being valve-eaters. Granted, Honda has plenty of valve issues in their own right, but they seem to have those issues resolved.
I definetely wouldnt go with a 450 for your first bike. Im serious. Start out on a 125 or a 250F.

The pre 07 RMZ 250s had some problems, the 450s have really had no problems, the problems that Suzuki has had in the past has resulted in the demand for their products go down thus their prices are less, that does not mean their an inferrior bike. Although I cant say enough about Honda, rock solid quality products. Honda, KTM, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawisaki, they all have figured out how to make a strong reliable 4 stroke.
