Hi all
Just bought myself a 1989 KDX200 water cooled and it needs to be pre-mixed.Is this the way it should be? If not how do they mix?
Cheers

Pre-mix your oil with the gas.

It does not have an oil injector

If its an SR model it will have oil injection. If you are based in Australia more than likely it will be a SR. Easy way to tell if it has oil injection is to lift the seat and have a look for the filler cap under the fuel tank.

Really?
I have been told that mine is an SR, it is a pre mixer but...

She is registered as well.

Plenty of people remove the oil injection set up. My 1990 200 has had it removed, they can strip the nylon gear inside the clutch side case and the injection fails as you can imagine it starts to get expensive when that happens.
Cheers Ben.

Plenty of people have also filled their coolant overflow with oil and fragged their engine. beware

Picked the bike up today, it has a hose coming from the rubber intake,(between the carby and the motor), down to something behind the kick start area.It has another hose coming from this which is blocked off. There is also a cable under the seat going nowhere.
Is this where the oil bottle should go?
Also the hose coming from the rubber intake is split.I imagine this will lean it off,but will it damage the bit behind the kick start area if this hose is blocked?

Yep thats the factory oil injection, sounds like its been disabled. The cable that you say that is going nowhere is probebly the throttle cable, there will be a splitter about 8" up the cable where it tee's and splits the cable to the carb and one to the oil injection. The bottle normaly sits under the fuel tank and the fill is accessed from under the seat. Best bet would be to remove the fitting and hose from the rubber carb intake boot and plug it with either a machined plug or you can use a 6mm bolt (thats how mine was when i bought it). You can remove the oil injection mechanisim behind the kickstarter area and make a blanking plate up quite easliy just use the existing gasket as a template i made mine from a offcut of 3mm aluminium plate but a mate made his out of plastic. The throttle cable can be replaced so to get rid of the splitter i made mine using a bike cable and reused the fittings and cable ends from the original cable (just make sure you measure the lengths of the existing cable inner and outer) Resolder the cable ends on and all done. My mates bike has a bought cable im not sure whats its off (non SR KDX???) if you took your original cable to a bike shop or wrecker they should be able to match something up without the splitter. The throttle will feel snappier with out the split cable. There will also be a wiring plug under the fuel tank for the oil injection reservoir/bottle, as it has a level switch that illuminates one of the warning lamps on the dash when the oil level runs low. You can just leave that unpluged. Let me know if there is anything else you need to know,
Cheers Ben

Thanks for that Ben
The bike has no dash YET so the light wont be a problem.I have to fit and hook up blinkers, dash, horn,so when i get these i'll be taking the tank off.I'll put some pics up when i work out how to do it on this forum.
Just curious what state are you in?
Cheers
Craig

Hello there,

I am in the process of determining if I can convert my US model KDX200 to use oil injection. Would it be possible to take some close up shots of the where the oil injector pump, tank, and the connection/fitting at the carb boot?

Thanks much!

I'd be interested in seeing that. My old 73 F11 is oil injected, and I think it's awesome!

J.
