the 125 2T will be much cheaper to maintain and they cost much less "up front"

The 125 will cost less and they teach you how to ride hard.

I agree that a 125 is going to be cheaper to own and most likely cheaper to buy. Nowdays a lot of people think they need to ride a 4-stroke to be competitive, so you should be able to pick up a good used 125 for cheap.

ok guys thanx. i'd like to get the 125 but now i talked 2 my dad and he says that the neighbors will complain because they r too noisy. i told him that 250f's are noisy too but he don't beleive me. do u guys think a 125 or 250f is louder stock? i've heard 125's but i havn't heard a 250f stock, just w/ racing exhausts.

4-stroke noise carries further, but it is a lower tone (stock). Two strokes are whiny (like those who ride them) and more high-pitched, and some people don't like hearing that ring-ding.

250Fs arent very quiet either. IMO, a 4-stroke has a more annoying exhaust note because of how much louder it is.
You can hear a 4-stroke MX bike from a long ways off. If you are riding around the yard a lot, your non-moto neibors are going to probably complain either way.

Tell ya what, I don't want to hear it either sitting at home, regardless of how many strokes.

yeah well try telling my dad that they r both really loud. i'm gonna try to get the 125. i could always get a silencer for it.

they all come with a "silencer", but i get your meaning. the 125 will be much quieter than a 250F, but it can still annoy the neighbors like Okie was getting across.

Or you could get a 250F enduro bike. With the stock silencer they are very quiet.
I dont know if you would be able to find a quiet muffler for a 2-stroke.

fmf Q, pc factory sound.... all for two strokes.

My .02:

1) a two stroke 125 can be every bit as annoying as a 250F, although it can also be more easily quieted down. I had both a PC and stock silencer for my KX125 and according to my track-side wife, the PC was almost as loud as my friend's stock 250F whereas the stock was quieter.

2) Maintenance-wise, they're really the same when they're running. You add pre-mix and crankcase oil to the 125 and you add engine oil to the 250F. The difference comes when it's time to rebuild. THEN the 4T rears its ugly $$$-sucking head.

I like my 450F a lot, but I'd rather have a 125 over a 250F. Riding the KX125 for a year made me a better rider.

i need to let my dad hear both of them stock and then he'll believe me. i don't really want an enduro bike because i'll be riding at the track a good bit. do you guys think $2200 for a used kx 125 is a good deal? its in good condition.

PC Factory Sound is not a quiet pipe.
$2200 is a good price for a KX 125 if its no older than an '02 and is in good shape.
I saw an ad for an '05 YZ 125 for $3500 here in Wisconsin. If I had the cash, that bike would be sitting in my garage right now. Gotta sell my snowmobile first though...

Depends what year. I sold my '01, which was purchased new in '03, and had PR2 suspension, Pro Circuit pipe/silencer, Pro Taper bars, hour meter, and brand-new top end, rear tire, Tag sprockets, and PK chain for $1400. I got 1 offer for it.

the kx is a 2003 model. i'm trying 2 sell my bike so i can get it if my dad lets me.
