7th Annual Damn Yankee Dirt Rider Spring Ride 6/15-17 at Tower City

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Since Paragon is hit and miss for now CRFguy has been kind enough (thanks Gordon ) to talk to the management at Tower City http://www.tctri.org/index.html about holding our ride there. They are a bit leery about a large group so we have to be on our best behavior. Here is a link to the rules. http://www.tctri.org/rules.html Read them and obey them.

We need to know as soon as possible how many people plan on attending, what days they will be riding and where they plan on staying. There are several local campgrounds http://www.tctri.org/localcampgrounds.html and hotels http://www.tctri.org/lodging.html There is also a campground on site but I’m not quite sure how that works (CRFguy??)

I plan on camping somewhere and riding Saturday. I’m up for riding Friday too if anyone else is.

Usually this ride has been planned since February so we are bit behind.

RIDER TALLY

Here’s a tally of who’s coming and on what day. Looks like 4 for riding Friday, 10 for Saturday and some for Sunday. Friday riders should meet at TC between 9 and 9:30 AM, Saturday meet at 8:30 AM.

Let me know if you have changes to this and I will update it. I’ll keep this list in the original first post for this thread so it can be easily found.

RM_guy-ride Friday & Saturday, camping Friday

CRFGuy--ride Friday & Saturday, Staying in a hotel so he doesn’t get his skirt dirty

Squeaky-ride Saturday & Sunday (1/2 day), camping Friday, Saturday

Rooster-ride Saturday & Sunday (1/2 day), camping Friday, Saturday

PK+?-ride Saturday & Sunday (?), camping Friday, Saturday

JasonJ-ride Friday, Saturday & Sunday, camping Friday, Saturday in his van...down by the river, I guess

Never2Old-ride Friday & Saturday, camping (?) Friday

Oskar and son-ride Saturday

MrMXer327 & son-ride Saturday

Matt 193-ride Saturday

Treejumper- Ride…maybe if his unborn child cooperates!

Sorry guys my idea of camping is hot and cold running water clean towels AC and I guess I'm somewhat of a wuss in my old age I will check with John about camping there but have a feeling that's only available for members. Give me a day or so to find out.

Looking forward to seeing you guys out there

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Oh yeah I plan on being there the whole weekend so riding Friday is no problem and they are open till dusk unlike Praagon who closes at 5. I know most of you just like myself loves Paragon and the guys there and we all hope for the best but we need to do what works for us as well. Tc is a very nice place to ride and their staff is very friendly and willing to help the added bonus is no 4 wheel drive trucks

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Rooster and I are in - but if Paragon is open that weekend, we're going to Paragon.

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Have to tell you guys that would be a very bad idea. It took some convincing to get them to allow this to happen and that would be a serious slap in their face. In fact I hope they don't even read that post. I did tell them about the site and our group so although we do love Paragon we can learn to love another place just as well. Have you ever been to TC Sam? They actually have more challening single track then Paragon as well as plenty of easy stuff so the group will be quite happy. I'm not trying to say one is better then another just that they both are great places and deserve our support as without them most of us don't have plated dirtbikes so we're back to riding in our backyards.

By saying something like that you give the impression that we're using them for a back-up and if I were John I would simply say the heck with us.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

I have to agree with you. The ride is planned for TC. If someone wants to go someplace else that's fine but this ride will be at TC. Period. I don't have a problem rotating where we hold the ride and I'm glad they are willing to accomadate us.

I am actually looking forward to riding at TC, since I have never been there. Paragon was actually getting a bit old for me...it's a blast but there wasn't a lot new.

Posted by: JasonJ---------------------

Im in. Friday through Sun if some one will be there. Ill be camping in my Van, just need a place to park it. There is (last time I was there) a large parking area just inside the entrance to the left where people can park to ride for the day. Its large enough for trailers but its first come first serve.
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/jasnk...ics/tcpits1.jpg

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Okay, I'm sorry I said that I guess I just love Paragon so darn much! But I do have to agree with you Dave - it will be very nice, fun, and refreshing to try a new area!

When are we going to know about camping? $140 for two people to only ride for the weekend is a tad bit expensive, unless camping is included too. If you think about it it's $120 for Paragon and camping for two people. So that's $20 more just for riding, if it doesn't include camping.

Posted by: JasonJ---------------------

It is on the expensive side, thats why I only go a few times a year. I see thier family rate is $400 a year, so if you guys were plannning to go twice a year or more it would work out but you no longer get a campsite with a membership. Im not sure if you can just stay in a camper over night if your a member or not?
Squeeky, I think I see a little loop hole there where you, PK, and Rooster can get a family membership if your a full time student with ID. Check their rates page.
TC is always loaded with members so they can pretty much raise thier rates to what the demand will bare. Good for them, bad for us.

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

We'll probably only go once, maybe twice a year - it's a long drive for us too (6 or so hours). So we'll just pay the guest rate.

Does anyone know anything about camping there yet? I don't want to contact them myself, per Gordon, so I don't overwhelm/harass them!

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

I was hoping that someone could direct us to a local campsite that we could stay at, like RedRidge. It doesn't look like they will have much for us as far as camping right at the trails. Gordon can let us know.

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Of course I'd rather stay at a campground if it means somewhere that has showers!

Posted by: JasonJ---------------------

Yeah Im not sure about showers there. Check this link for local campgrounds. They all look like $20 per night per spot (2 adults and kids) .
http://www.tctri.org/localcampgrounds.html

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Uh...yeah thanks Jason. That's the link I posted in my first post. Is there one of them that's better than the others? ..closer to TC? ...facilities? ...safe to leave stuff all day? ...tolerant of loud and drunken dirt bikers?

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

So Papakeith, me, and Rooster - that's one adult and two kids

Can't we just Google Map the locations and see which one seems closer/easier to TC? Or maybe call and see which ones would accomodate a group better?

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Ok guys here's the scoop. They don't offer campsites or allow anyone to stay on property unless you are a member and then you lease your campsite for the year. They also don't have any showers on property. I usually stay at the comfort Inn about 5 mikes away that has a TC rate of 58.00 per night. Sorry I can't help with a recommendation about camping but if you go to the TC site they have several listed and exactly how far they are and what they offer so good luck.

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

I'd definitely rather camp - I'll research the camp grounds if you guys want me to.

Dirtbiking and then staying in a hotel Camping is part of the fun!!!!

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

I e-mailed Camp-a-While for more information, since they're the closest campground to TC. I'll keep you guys posted with the info.

Posted by: Never2Old---------------------

Count me in to ride at TC on Sat. I'd probably ride on that Friday too if anyone is going.

Rob

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Okay I heard back from Camp-A-While, here are the details:

They cannot do a group area; however, we're allowed to have 4 adults per site. The cost is $20 per night for two adults, the extra adults are $3 each. So, we could split the pricing. That's for tent camping. If we give them enough advanced notice they can get us our sites all right next to each other. A weekend stay requires a deposit for the first night - so we can work out the details of that in some other way.

This place seems comparable to Red Ridge - and it's the closest to TC. Here's the website if you're interested: http://campawhilepa.com/generalinfo.htm.

So - who's camping?

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

I'm camping Friday night only with a tent. I'm riding Friday and Saturday.

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Well this is thrilling - is no one going to this ride or what?

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

I was wondering the same thing. It doesn't have to be a huge group. In fact when it is a large group I never get a chance to ride with everyone anyway.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

I will most likely be out for this ride. If all goes well, I will be marking or cutting trails at Paragon then.

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Really too bad we're not getting more interest. It did take a bit of convincing on my part to be able to get them to allow this to happen. I would have to think that if we don't show up at this point as a group that the next time we ask them for a favor they will simply say no, too bad. Is there a reason I should know about that is keeping others from checking in or committing to go? Should this be listed on the Damm Yankees page? Perhaps it's that you guys just haven't been there yet. I can tell you that they have much more single track and even tougher stuff then our friends at Paragon. I can take A riders on a tour that will without question make you sleep very well that night or make it as easy as the group wants. There are hill climbs there that only the very brave will attempt. One has been called Mount Everest and lives up to it's name. I don't claim to know this place as well as Paragon just yet but by the time we go on the ride I'll have some pretty good routes mapped out on my GPS and think Jason might actually know it pretty well already.

Sure don't want to blow this opportunity, do we?

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

And what if we don't show up as a group? Are they still going to let who ever shows up ride as guests?

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Yes, of course at least for this ride but like I said before seems like we might be slamming a door closed before we even walk through it. I sort of wish we took a poll to see if anyone even wanted to go there before I made the call.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

I'm not sure what the problem is Gordon. The enthusiasm just doesn’t seem to be there anymore. I went on a ride last weekend and beside the 2 guys that asked me to come, I was the only one there from DRN. With so few places to ride I thought there would be a lot bigger response.

Posted by: brpray---------------------

hi guys,

you can count me in for sat and sunday.

ray

Posted by: Oskar---------------------

I and my son have been looking to go to TC for a while.
I've never rode with you guys before, but I will try and make it.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

My problem is i cant commit til right before. I have no problems checking out a new place and having fun riding. Its just that with a baby due June 22nd and a wife who went into labor 2 months early, i cant commit to when i can take a bathroom break let alone a weekend away. So if you guys need a count sooner than the week before i'm out.

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Won't be a problem as right now there doesn't seem to be much interest. I told John I thought we'd be around 20 or so and since no one is really committing I can only assume (and yes I hate using that word) that we will be a very small group, too bad this place is loaded with really cool trails. I will say this if you don't respond to this page and give me an idea of how many are coming and we turn up there with way more then 20 he might turn the overage away (after all it is sort of a club) so at that point those who did respond will get first come spots. Sorry but this will have to be how to handle it as I really don't know John that well and certainly want to have a good relationship in the future with him as I plan on riding there hopefully for years to come.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Gordon, Thanks for your help. Looks like we have 9 so far (including you & me).

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

I would count on the usual RI contingent.

I'll bet as the time approaches you'll get more people wanting to join up for the ride.

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Yes Rooster and I are definitely in. I'm going to book a site for us at Camp-a-While...only 4 adults are allowed per site and they require a deposit. I can book more than one site if someone else is willing to front the deposit for another site.

Posted by: MrMXer327---------------------

Howdy Folks (Yes I am still alive and kicking). If this is a go, I'm thiking of bringing Jared and maybe twisting PStout's wrist. Been way to long since I've throw a leg over the scoot. I'll keep an eye on this thread and see what develops.

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Oh it's a go alright, just trying to get a handle on how mant want to go. So we can let them know. I'll be riding there this Saturday if anyone wants to join me.

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

Steve?!!! How have you been? It would be great to see you jared and maybe even Patrick too.

In addition to Rooster, Sam and Myself; You can plan on two maybe three more from RI.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

This is good. I plan on riding Friday and Saturday so I hope someone will be there Friday.

Sam, I'll be camping Friday night by myself. Will there be room to squeeze into your spot? (to clarify, I mean your camping spot. I in no way mean to try and edge in on any Rooster property...and by property I don't mean he "owns" you…OK, I’ll stop now)

Glad to hear your still alive and kicking! I look forward to Jared blowing the doors off of everyone else! I can still remember him asking me why we kept stopping and I told him we had to wait for all to slow guys

Thanks! I'll split the cost with yo. What time do you plan on arriving Friday? Looks like they have a nice pool

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

We'll probably arrive around 3 or so...it looks like the same length drive as to Red Ridge.

You want to book the site or do you want me to do it?

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

If you are staying for 2 nights you should probably do it. I'm only staying Friday. Let me know if you need some money up front from me.

Posted by: Matt 193---------------------

Hey I'm a member of Tower City and it is a great place I just found this thread, because my computer has been down for a while me and my dad will give a attempt to get up there. We have been up there to around 8 or 9 years so we know almost every trail if you need some help with that if we can show. Just to assure everyone TC is a great place, and I choose it over everywhere I have ridden.
Matt 193

Posted by: Never2Old---------------------

RM Guy, are you planning on getting up there early on Friday? If so, I'll commit to Friday also if want to ride. I'll do moderate to aggressive. Is anyone else planning on early Fri?

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

I plan on getting there between 9 and 9:30 Friday morning. I can get there earlier but I don't want to have to get up too early. Moderate to aggressive sounds good.

Posted by: Never2Old---------------------

I have around a 2 1/2 hour drive so 9 or 9:30 AM is good.

Rob

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Right now it looks like I can make it for Friday morning as well and if you guys are up for an aggressive ride your coming to the right place. Last time I rode there I found a single track off camber trail on the edge of a cliff that's a real heart stopper.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

I have a 2.5 hour drive too.

I guess I should have said "short bursts of aggressive riding" I don't want to get too crazy and would just as soon stop at just before aggressive. Heart stopping is way past aggressive!!!!--thank you very much! I have the steer damper and a flywheel weight now but I also have to be back in work on Monday

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Come on now are you telling me that your letting your age catch up with you? If I can do it so can you and you'll love the view but do me a favor and stay on you bike and the trail it's a long way down. Seriously though this particular trail is not for everyone but we can still head over that way and those that want can join us or take an easy sneak route around in fact the whole place is sort of like that. We can make the ride as hard or easy as the group wants with no problem. There is even a way to ride to a local pub for lunch if that's what we want.

I saw a post from Matt perhaps he knows some cool trails there. Matt do you ride the single track stuff? I've come to realize that non of the single track stuff is marked out and you really need to know where it starts. I've been doing GPS riding there and hopefully by the time we go as a group I'll have some good tracks for us.

Posted by: Rooster---------------------

My throttle hand is getting kinda twitchy. We'll be there.

Posted by: Never2Old---------------------

Edge of a cliff? Yikes! I guess I should have clarified too.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Good point. I can usually whip your sorry butt...at least until you got that steering stabilizer. Still, the thought of a cliff scares the crap out of me--and believe me, I’m full of it

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

It's Ok you can always use the excuse, you just haven't had time to get yours dialed in yet.

Hey guys I'll be there tomorrow if anyone wants to ride. Should be a small group I'll have two riders with me and Raymond is bringing a coulpe.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Good...I like excuses

Posted by: brpray---------------------

Hi Guys,

just become a member of TC, must say that we had an outstanding day yestarday. The days riding was one of the best I have had for a long time. I loved Paragon and look forward to Paragon 2 but we WILL all have a great time at our spring ride.

I could about what we did or went down or up but will leave it for the spring ride.

cant wait

Ray

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Yes it was fun and we did cover some good trails but I hope your planning on joining me this coming weekend for my ride with Lou.

The best way to find all the single track is to scan the sides of all the main trails and you will see a little cut in or something. It won't always be a singletrack trail it may be a dead end but there is so much your bound to find as much as you want in a weekend. A lot of cool single track is on the National H.S course you can find a arrow and follow them it will normally send you to singletrack. All you have to do is pay attention to side trails and you will find some just make sure someone with you has a good sense of direction or a good gps becasue ther is so much land it is easy to get lost. My dad knows most of it really good so if we are going to go he can probably so you some good trails.

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

I was just on the phone with my buddy Steve and he reminded me of the funniest mishap of the day. He had fallen of the edge of a single track down into a ditch. The way he was found when someone back tracked for him was by the way he was shaking the tree next to him. Ray and I had a good laugh when we heard the story as we were cooling down waiting for them to come back. There was no damage to the bike or Steve and it was one of the best days he has had riding so far. He make tremendous improvements in his riding skills and got over his fear of up and down hills. I think Mike had a good time as well and if not for his cramping up he would have enjoyed the rest of the day with us.

Looking forward to seeing everyone out there

4 weeks to go

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

I'm getting pumped!

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Wahooooooooo! I have reserved 2 RV campsites at Camp-a-While for Me, Rooster, RM_Guy, Papakeith, and two others. The sites are reserved for Friday and Saturday evenings.

4 Adults are allowed per site - so if someone wants to stay on our site we have room for 1 more and we can share the costs. Let me know!

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Here’s a tally of who’s coming and on what day. Looks like 4 for riding Friday, 10 for Saturday and some for Sunday. Friday riders should meet at TC between 9 and 9:30 AM, Saturday meet at 8:30 AM.

I am so ready to ride again. If you don't hear from me for the next 2 weeks don't get worried. I'm gonna be pretty busy and may not have access to my computer.

LET'S RIDE

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

FYI Dave - I sent the deposit for the campsites yesterday. Check in is at 3 - I'd say Roo and I are going to arrive right around that time.

Hey what camp ground did you decide on? Im ready to go, although I have NO off road seat time in this year. I will cut my teeth at 8 B's and get my groove on.
Im really hoping to have a dampener installed and dialed in for the TC ride since Im familiar with the high speed rock shock jock terrian up there. Plus Im tired of having Gordon walk away from me on the straight aways on that flying pumpkin thing.
The great debate continues, Older guys on new bikes, or new guys on older bikes?
Oh yeah, I got a fresh set of tires to break in. How ya like me now?
I am very interested in the unmarked single track Gordon. I would like to see whats available on the reservation these days. I use to ride TC with John when he operated out of the back of that old school bus with a ceg at the rear door. We use to ride from TC to White haven,,,,,,,, ahhhh, who sounds like an old guy now?

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Jason - we decided on Camp-a-While http://campawhilepa.com/generalinfo.htm

It's roughly 6 miles from TC and it's got all the facilities we need (showers, bathrooms, etc...)

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

I spent another wonderful weekend riding at TC and Jason as far as I can tell none of the single track is marked. (Oh yeah who are you calling Old) I rode for about two hours on nothing but single track that I'm not sure I can find again so easily but I was never really more then several hundred yards from the campgrounds. The guys I've had the privilege of riding with there have been doing it since before the place was even TC. I've been very lucky that they have taken me in as one of the group and can tell you that there not only very good riders but equally good people. We did one trail that he called the Razor back that I would seriously like to find again with a small group of the aggressive riders. It's not a trail for everyone but hey who am I to say as Jason says I'm some kind of old rider with a new bike.

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Posted by: Oskar---------------------

Where exactly are you guys meeting in the Parking lot at TC. I will be in a black Dodge Ram w/ a red bike trailer, incase I can't see you and you see me.

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

That's a good question..... since most of you aren't members you'll have to meet me or another member like Ray or Mike or Jason if he's a member but I'll check with John and see how he wants to work it. My best guess is he'll want us in the upper parking lot out of everyone's way.

Posted by: JasonJ---------------------

I was a lifetime member, I helped clear the camping area and trails and clean up when TC was going legit, however the "life time" member sticker was on my ages ago helmet and was before such things as the office, paper work and the " new entrance"
So I guese Im not a member anymore . But hey, Ive made a living out of not being a member right? DRN

After climbing mount Everest 4 times at rocket speed and just making it
look easy. It was a half mile from camp all riders had a great days
riding as we looked up the shear face of Everest and with Bass about to
**** his pants as he would not crap in the woods with no toilet paper I
heard it whisper to me.

Come on u big *****

U r a *****

I pressed the magic button and with stones flying from the back wheel
had my eyes focused on the top 500 feet away.

Front wheel in the air back wheel carving a trench with the power of
the 525 ktm motor I climbed as before.
Then it happened who put that rock in my path. Front wheel clips it
flinging the bike 2 the right in mid air as I land with motor reving high
the rear tire bites with force launching me and the bike into a
sukahara double twist with a mixture of gas coming from my rear end it was all
over in an atomic bomb like cloud of dust in a blink of an eye.

I remember thinking its a dream as I never drop the bike well not like
this anyway oh and did I tell you how high I was.

As the dust blew away and my arse stll leaking I stood up to get the
bike.

Oh oh oh why did my knee do that as I fell into the dust and rolled 10
feet down hill. Again as I stood up wham down again.

With about 30 pairs of eyes looking up at me and two quads Mike and
Gordon was coming 2 my rescue.

With a Quad ride, pickup ride and 4 hours later I was under the X-ray
machine.

No broken bones but with an MRI on tuesday it looks as if the KTM will
not be running for a while.

Just lying here topped up with some nice pain killers and will have the
memory for ever.

The last thing I heard was
I knew you were a *****

My dad has climbed everest a few dozen times (I wish I could do that) and when he went to the top a guy waved his arms and I thought great he jumped over and landed on his head. Next thing you know this guy on a KTM 400exc jumps off everest and lands almost all the way down. Amazing I don't think I'll be trying that anytime.

17 DAYS! Who's pumped?! I am! I am!

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Well i'm in for saturday riding. I may have my nephew with me but not sure til i findout if his mother allows it. If he goes i will be out early saturday and stay saturday night. If he cant go then i will be out friday afternoon and stay til sunday morning (no riding). I cant wait. Time to order parts and get ready!

What's the camping arrangements, site numbers already taking, etc. I need to book as soon as i find out if he's going. If he doesnt go is there room for 1 at someones site?

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

chuck, you can crash on my site

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Ok, i'll try to findout by tonight if he's coming with me or not.

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

We have two RV sites reserved at Camp-a-While. Our site has room for one more adult - as long as this adult doesn't have a camper and/or a trailer, as we're parking our enclosed trailer on the site.

PK - How many people are going to be on your site?

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Looks like we may have a few options for future rides as long as this works out and they let us come back as a group without all buying the season passes. There is also a new ATV-dirtbike park opening up in the poconos within 2-3 weeks, so maybe we can try that for a summer or fall ride.

And hopefully Paragon will ba back to full operation soon. their new park right now is too small to open to the public, so its only for events and group rides. and there are no dirtbike or atv trails there. For those who hadn't heard, that park is right across the road from red ridge, they have spent the past few weeks cutting all new trails there, and had their jeep jamboree this weekend on the new trails.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Well my nephew is coming with me. We will be tenting it so if you have one adult available and Pk has one available i'll take those. If not can you let me know what site number so i can ask for one next door. Thanks! Cant wait to ride!

Dan, the pocanos would be nice to try and about the same distance for me.

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Take your pick Chuck - you're allowed 4 adults and 2 children per site.

What days are you camping?

Dan - sounds like some really great options coming up for future rides! Where across from Red Ridge did Paragon move? Where the big open field area is/was?

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

doesnt matter, either site works for us so we will tag along with the one of your guys sites, thanks! We will only be staying saturday night as he still has school due to a strike.

Edit: Looks like we will be there sometime friday evening. His mother said i can pick him up from school around 3pm. So looks like i can be at the campground around 7 or 8. Need to mapquest it to be sure on time.

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

I've got room for the two of you Chuck. I think

Posted by: Oskar---------------------

Is any one going to TCRI this coming weekend. I'd love to tag along.
Looks like will definately make it for the 16th only. Would love to camp, but probably will be staying at a motel Friday night. If anyone is staying at a motel, which one did you pick.
And one more question. Are you guys planning on starting to ride at 8:30 am or is it only the meeting time. Also, please leave info at main office about where you are parking, so I can find you. By the way, should I check in at the office before I find you or after.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

I'M BACK!!!!!!!!!!!

Dan was right, I was on vacation at VA beach for 2 weeks to rest up for this ride. I still plan on arriving at TC Friday morning arouind 9:30

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Still have not had a chance to speak with John about how he wants me to handle this but I will take care of it this week and post ASAP

Gordon

I'll be riding this weekend Oskar and you're certainly welcome to join me if I'm not riding with one of the locals. It's kind of early to tell just yet what will be and since it's someone else's group I can't just invite you without asking them first. Stay in touch and we'll see what happens. Not sure just yet if it will be both days it will sort of depend on the weather.

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Gordon - Am I correct in assuming that we can pay the $70 weekend guest fee (per person, of course) to ride?

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Yes, for those that are riding 2 days I believe that will work but the 3 day riders will have to pay for the extra day.

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Cool - Thanks Gordon!

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Just an FYI for everyone - I have two sites reserved at Camp-a-While, but we have filled our allowed capacity for people. I don't know if anyone else was planning on camping or not...

See everyone in 10 days! YAY!

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

I'm looking forward to riding with everyone again. It's been too long and I have a hankerin' to get back on my bike!

Posted by: flyingfuzzball---------------------

fooey that isnt far from me but im leaving for vacation the 15th

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

That works Pk, just let me know if i need to stop at the office or just head to the campsite. Figure i will need to stop and get a tag for the truck unless they just give it to you. I have your cell so i'll call when i get close, that is unless its like Red Ridge and has no cell service.

Posted by: DaveRS575---------------------

Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that I am oficially leaving the sport, at least for now. Time, physical issues, and my Harley are the major deciding factors.

I know it's off topic in this forum, but figured it's the best place to say farewell for now to all of you folks, I really enjoyed my times riding with you all.

I'm selling the KDX too if you want to have a look at the for sale forum.

My email address is Dave@mobileice.net for any of you who would like to stay in touch. The one thing Ill miss more than anything is all of the fun times at Paragon, and hanging with all of you.

I won't say goodbye...just "until we meet again", everyone take care, and enjoy all the rides you have left in ya!

Dave

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Ah Dave, don't say it's so At least you've left youself an out to get back into it. Keep in touch and when you just can't stand it anymore ya all come back!

Chuck - I'm pretty sure everyone has to be registered at the office.

Posted by: Papakeith---------------------

Sorry to hear you're taking a leave of absence from the dirtbiking world Dave. Hopefully our paths will cross at some point in the future. Take care of yourself.

PK

Yeah, Just tell them you're with PapaKeith, Squeaky and Rooster

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Yeah Dave that'll work LOL - Both sites are registered to me actually. But Rooster, PK, and I will hopefully be there around 3-3:30.

DaveRS - So sorry to hear you're leaving the sport, for now. Keep in touch - you will certainly be missed. Take care of yourself and be careful out on that Harley.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

I'll go up and ride in Daves back yard every day, till he gets the itch to get back on a dirt bike

Posted by: DaveRS575---------------------

Thanks guys, it is certainly with a heavy heart that I am leaving, hopefully over time, and with some more therapy, by back will let me be me again! In the meantime, it's just killing me to see the KDX in my garage day after day. I sold my gear which emptied my closet, but the bike still stares me in the face every day and has only made me sad. Maybe I can go out and get one of those nice cushy cannondales as my next offroad bike . I'm really going to miss all of you and I am just heartbroken over PAP. Maybe I'll take a spin out to Tower city on the Harley to visit y'all!

Feel free to anytime but stop by the camp site instead. Triggers done this before and we all enjoyed having him stop by.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

NOO, stop at the park around noon time, and bring us a nice lunch too. We should all be good and hungry by then you have to remember, if Dave stops at the camp ground at night, he has a 2-2 1/2 hour drive home from there, unless he camps the night.

Posted by: brpray---------------------

hi guys,

going to miss this one as the MRI results are in.

Torn ACL and fracture as well.

The fracture is given me the most pain with some good swelling going on.

Hope everybody has a great time and ride safe

Ray

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Ray - Sorry to hear about the injuries. You will certainly be missed! Heal up fast so hopefully you can make it to the next ride!

Posted by: Rooster---------------------

Ahhh! Ray! Bollocks! (sp?) You will be missed. I was hoping you could make it. Don't be shy, you can still come out and have some cold ones with us. I hear cold beer is a great pain killer.

That hill looks like a biggun!

I'm looking forward to this ride. New places are a good thing.

Posted by: brpray---------------------

thanks Sam,

it looks as if no one will be representing Long island as Mike and the boys are heading north to Canada, a party for his parents is the calling.

Anyway just a reminder that TC has more coal dust than Paragon so you will get nice and dusty.

A nice pair of goggles is a good thing along with the cloth on the handle bars

Ray

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Hey Ray, sorry you can't make it. I guess you can't just wrap it with more duct tape?!?! I hope to see you at the next one.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

off topic, but is anybody heading to southwick this weekend?

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Considering I always have food on the brain, I have a question...

Is there somewhere we can buy food at TC or should we be prepared with lunch food?

There is pizza and hotdogs normally. I bring my own food when we go.

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Cool, thanks Matt!

No problem also the office has a lot of spare parts like tubes, levers, 2 smoke, oil, etc incase you break something and don't have a spare.

Well - I was...until Rooster and I rode today and I hit a tree and down I went...then suddenly the TTR started making a funny noise. I blew out 2nd gear. issed: Probably won't be fixed in time - luckily we still have the WR and PK still has the XR. I'll still have a bike to ride, which is great, it just won't be my TTR.

Maybe it's the dirtbike gods saying it's high time I learn to ride a big people bike LOL

I think we have four of us that are riding on Friday - Dave, Gordan, Jason, and myself. Can you guys each email me a cell number in case anyone has traveling trouble on Fri? Then I'll send everyone's info. out to Friday's foursome.

I'm a newbie to the group and have been following the threads for months now and am looking forward to meeting and riding with some of you.

Rob

only some of us?

And even after I gave you some background info on the group, you are still looking forward to it?

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

why you deleting your message, I'm not worried about them blaming me for inviting you here, I'm worried about you blaming me for telling you it will be a nice easy ride

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

You guys are only riding Friday Rob? Rooster, PK, and I plan on arriving Friday - but not to ride as we won't be there until 3 or 4 p.m.

I'm pretty sure he was riding Fri and Sat, but he didnt want to be the only one there on Friday if the others dont make it.

Posted by: Never2Old---------------------

Yep, planning on riding Fri. and Sat.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

I will be at TC by 9:30. I don't have a cell phone so I'll just see everyone there. I have a 2005 red Dakota quad cab with a nice clean RM in the back. Gordon was going to let us know where to park at TC...hey Gordon, where are ya bud???

Rob, are you camping with us Friday or cheating and staying in a hotel with Gordon and Dan?

BTW, I don't blame you if you don't want to ride with Scooter

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

The weather looks fantastic for this weekend!!!

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

I missed my call from John yesterday but he said he would call me today here at my shop and that there would be no problem with our ride this weekend in his message. I'll be up there around 9-9:30 Fri and riding all weekend provided my knee holds up, sort of did some damage two weeks ago. The MIRI says I severed my Acl and tore the meniscus but I've been re-habing it and think it will be fine without the surgery so we'll just have to see how it goes. Been sort of quiet about it cause I didn't want to see the ride get canceled. I'll be driving my Silver and Blue Suburban with a trailer hauling as Jason describes it my Big Pumkin thing for Old folks. As to where we will meet it is still in the air till I speak with him but I think it will be the upper parking lot. Stay tuned for more info coming soon.

Is it safe to say we are around 15 riders or so? I sort of went through the posts and that's what I came up with. Anyone with a better count?

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

15 sounds right.

Sorry about your knee. I'll bring extra duct tape but you should be OK on the Big Pumpkin for Old Folks

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Who said I was even gonna be there friday night? I'm not getting there till saturday morning.

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Pffft to staying in a hotel - sissies!

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Hey now!!! Hotels have washing machines and dryers for that nice neat look and fresh smell the next day as well as room service and cold beers on tap. Top that with your trees and cloths lines....

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Well I own more than one set of gear - so I'm clean and fresh the next day too!

And I'd rather have ICE COLD out of a cooler beer so

And ROOM SERVICE? What's wrong with a good ol' grilled hot dog?

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

So what's wrong with smelly gear for the second day? How is anyone suppose to find me when I run off the trail and get lost???

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Quote:

thats easy, just look for the riders still on the trail pointing and laughing

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

I just got off the phone with John and we're all set. I will be at the office when everyone is checking in Saturday morning but if not just tell them your part of the Dirtrider group with Gordon. As to parking after checking in if your standing on the steps of the office facing out make a right and go up that road there will be one parking lot on the left that comes up quickly then a much larger one as you continue up the hill don't make any turns. I will be able to be reached by cell if you have any problems 908-403-5270

Whoever is planning on riding with me Friday give me a call Thusday night to confirm so I know who to look for.

See you all there

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

If you remember the way we found my friend Steve when he didn't show up on the trail was to back track and he was down a hill shaking a tree from the bottom. It was a classic story that I'll remember for quite some time.

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

You'll hear me tell you this when we ride out there (Just like other's have told me) but figure I might as well start now. Never assume there is flat ground on the other side of a rise out there. Always ride with caution when approaching what you can't see beyond. In our ride there will be points that will require turns when you reach a rise so be careful. I don't claim to know this place like Paragon just yet (but that will change) so just because you see the rider in front of you do something still use caution when approaching. I've had the wonderful benefit of riding with some awesome guys and fantastic riders out there that will tell you the same thing before every ride.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Just a rememinder for those who didnt catch it. If your bringing a minor, son or daughter the site says you need a notorized signed waver. I got mine done for my nephew so i should be set to go for saturdays ride.

Yeah, but who's gonna sign a waiver for you?

Screaming like a 12 year-old girl helped me locate you on that infamous hill back in '02.

Have fun on your ride. Make sure to shoot a finger skyward around 6:30 as I'll be about 30,000 feet overhead.

I'll make sure to drop a deuce just for you Dave.

9:30 Friday at the office and Sat & Sun at 8:30 would be better if that's cool with everyone else.

Unfortunately Jason both sites I reserved are full.

Speaking of which - for those of you camping with us. Rooster, PK, and I will be there around 3-4 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Both camp sites are reserved in my name. You must check in at the office before proceeding to the camp site. If you need to talk to me - PM me for my cell number or e-mail me.

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Dan what time will you be there? I will swing back and get you and whoever is late if that works. there are plenty of trails we can warm up on right in the campground area so no big deal. Call my cell phone when you get there and I'll head us back that way.

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Just thought of something maybe we should make it 9:30 just for Saturday so that I can be there when everyone is checking in so there is no problem in the office.

I cant get there till around 9:30, Thats the time we usually start, and what I had planned on.

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

I think 9:30 is better. So no one has to rush around in the morning, plus the campground is like 10 miles away so we have like a 10-15 minute drive to TC.

Don't know anyone with a pink bike. My Gasser 300s are blue, as are my shorts, and my Bultaco is red like RM_guy's face when he can't make it up a hill.

BTW, do you still ride your Jack Piner?

So i dont need to bring any either? Is Dave's good wood or crap wood?

I tried to crap on the wood before but it burned to fast...this is good stuff.

I try to keep crap off my wood as a rule.

Posted by: Treejumper---------------------

Well you never know what may crap on the pile while its lying there. So i thought i would check. I'll toss a afew logs in the bed just incase we get carried away with a huge fire or something. Not like that happens with us or anything.

Oh, just remembered, that was Triggers fresh cut wood the last time. Not yours.

You must check in at the office before proceeding to the camp site. If you need to talk to me - PM me for my cell number or e-mail me.

Sam, I can not PM you, sorry, and I dont know your last naem . What is it so I can get into the area your guys are in?

Jason - it's under Samantha Flickinger. But, unfortunately, like I said we don't have any room left on the two sites we reserved (they're pretty strict with how many people, cars, etc per site at this campground...).

Did you try calling them and reserving another site?
