i am looking in to getting a new ktm either a xc-w 200 or 250. which would you guys reccomend? i am not looking for all out speed or power just looking for something with more zip than a 125. what do you guys reccomend? and would a fmf gnarly pipe give a good amount of new bottom end? oh yeah i way 140lbs and 5 foot 8. i ride fire roads and alot of technical stuff.

The 200 will have plenty of pep for you. I weigh 160lbs and my 200 pulls me around just fine.

Both bikes are a blast to ride. You can't go wrong with either of those two choices.

I am really enjoying my '02 250 SX. I'm 6' 220#, and it has all the power in the world. 4th gear feels as strong as 2nd gear at speed! Really love how easy it is to adjust shocks, etc. also. I have a pro circuit pipe, unsure how it compares to the FMF or the stock pipe. D

It all depends on how much tighter trails you do or how much open areas you do. The 200 is my eyes are much more fun to ride for the fact it has decent bottom end but screams like a 125 in its topend. But they are both great bikes.

The 200 is a great bike! It's my first 2 stroke and it scared the crap out of me in the beginning, but I stuck with it and now, 277 miles later it's defintiely taken my riding to a level I never would have thought possible.

thanks for the imput guys but ends up i am going for the 250. figure in the long run i would just want the 250 so might as well get it now. its going to be great. one of my teachers at school has a 250 and a 200 and he is my height and a little heavier and he says he would rather the 250 any day in the world so ia m gunna go with is advice as well.

If you go with the 250 why not the 300?
Posted by: LBRaptor---------------------
haha it ends up that finding a 250 where i live is very hard to come by becasue of demand but they had one 200 left in a crate and i took it. cant wait.
does anyone know the power difference between a wr250f and a 200 xc-w?
Posted by: 2 strokes for life---------------------
LBRaptor, the 200 makes roughly i would guess between 36 and 40+ horse power. The WR makes around the same i think but i might be wrong.

The 200 will be stronger in the midrange and make a little less down low. It won't be as smooth as the four-stroke, but I know personally I like the hit.

yeah i am excited for teh hit and learnign how to ride a 2 stroke well. i find that the 4 strokes get boring and you can become lazy riding them. sure they are super forgiving but i want to learn how to ride hard.
