Lost Trails ATV park on 7/5 or 6 (PA)

I plan on checking this place out next Thursday or Friday. Anyone interested in meeting me there? Scooter has been there and gives it a thumbs up. Here’s the website http://www.ridelosttrails.com/

Your bike needs liability insurance and a quiet muffler. I just insured my bike (comp and liability) for $56 ($100 deductable)so it’s not bad.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Oops! Looks like they are only open Saturday and Sunday for now. I'll have to check to see if they will be open for the holiday week, otherwise this is a bust!!!

Posted by: squeaky---------------------

Well since we're doing Pittsfield the weekend after we're out for this one...

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

It looks like they WILL be open for next week but I will get final confirmation this weekend.

Anyone interested besides Scooter?

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

I might be up for it but will have to let you know later in the week, right now I'm short handed in the shop with guys on summer vacation. Can anyone tell me why I never seem to get one of those, seems like I'm doing something wrong around here. I'll be riding TC this weekend if you guys want to join me. Dan what's the topography like there? Any challenging stuff or just easy family type trails. I only ask cause I see their offering rentals and usually when that happens they have limited trails to cut down on liability.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Here's a quote from Dan on the current trails at Lost Trails:
Quote:
"You will definitely be able to cover the whole park in a day, but they are fun trails. just to give you an idea, the trails are rated more towards the inexperienced rider, most of the blue trails, would have been a green3 or maybe green 2 at Paragon, and the red trails might have been a blue1. there are a few challenges, but nothing real aggressive like Paragon or Tower City. Its more family oriented."
I want to check it out even though it might not be super challenging right now. It is so much closer for me to drive to and I hope for it to become more technical as time goes on. They are still developing the place.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

As of now he doens't plan on making on making any more technical trails. He wants to keep it more family oriented, and for beginners. There is the possibility of 2 other parks opening in the poconos by the fall, If Paragon opens there, I'm sure it will be more challanging, and the other park rummored to be opening in the area, claims to have 3 motocross tracks, and a couple hundred miles of trail.

Dan, Lost Trail's waiver says your bike not only needs insurance but has to be registered too. I can't register my bike and asked Tony if I'll be OK (I have insurance). Is your bike registered?

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

no you dont need registration, it is recommended, but you dont have to have it. Paragon had that in their waiver too. It is to protect themselves.

Did Tony answer your last PM yet?

Posted by: letsride24-7---------------------

I thought only atv's need insurance in PA. b/c they also need to registered with DCNR.
These are the same rules as tower city.... I'm going up to lake wallenpaupack tomorrow ands was thinking about bringing my girl and a few bikes, Maybe i'll stop in and check it out. ...

Yes. He is pretty confident about being open during the week next week but will know for sure by this weekend.

I was talking to Gordon and he may show up Friday. Is Friday good for you?

This park is privately run, not state run, and they do require insurance on bikes.

I'm from PA and every tag service i call say they don't register off road dirt bikes? Since they are not designed for the road.. And my insurance company says they only do ATV's not dirt bikes?? What the Heck!! I can race my bike but not ride here?

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

I know a lot of places wont insure dirtbikes, but unfortunately, the park requires it. in Pa and NJ you can get insurance from Rider
And to run Enduros, you need to be registered and insured, so I'm sure there are others that offer it too.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

They're are definitely open next week so let's make it Friday for the ride. I'll be there by 8:30 (they open at 9:00). (thanks Dan!)

No registration is required, only liability insurance. I got my insurance through State Farm, took me 5 minutes and no hassles.

Posted by: Oskar---------------------

I'll try and make it also.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

cool hope to see you there. And if you bring your kid, there is plenty that he will be able to ride there. He may have to stick to the green trails, since there are some big hills on some of the blue, but with time he will conquer them too.

Posted by: Oskar---------------------

I am going to be solo. I'd like to do some more serious riding this time.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

I never knew the words "serious" and "Damn Yankees ride" could go together

Insurance in PA is not a problem for a dirtbike. You don't need to be registered to insure for liablity which is what they want. I use State farm but you can contact almost any company. When I used to insure my CR250r it would cost me about 125.00 a year and that included collission comp and theft coverage. My 525 is street legal and it runs me about 300.00 for full coverage.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

I'm not sure if I'll be there Friday, but if not, you guys will have no problem following thier map to get around. Or here is the map from my GPS, trails aren't labeled, but they are all there. I dont think the park will have this map available yet, they need to label it with names and trail directions. http://rides.webshots.com/photo/262...014618418zASqYT

One of my best friends and riding buddies passed away from cancer the other day, and I'm just not sure if I'll be up for a ride. That news wasnt what I needed to hear on my birthday yesterday. You may or may not remember him, he was at one of our DRN rides about 4 years ago, his name was also Dan and he was on a YZF426. At the end of that ride he was telling me about some pains he had while riding, and about a week later he was diagnosed with colon cancer.

After 10+ years riding together, that was our last ride since he was too weak from chemo after that, but he never got rid of the bike and we always had plans to ride again.

He and his wife had addopted 2 kids since they were told they couldnt have children of thier own, 4 months before he was diagnosed with cancer his wife got pregnant. 2 years later when they thought the cancer had been beat, they decided to have another child. After that things turned worse with the cancer returning, and spreading to the liver.

I may be there friday, but i'm not sure right now.

Very sorry for your loss....

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Damn Dan, that sucks. I think I remember him since you usually come to our rides alone. I'll definitely donate something to help out.

I truly hope you feel up to riding Friday. We'll have a small group and should be riding a lot. It will be a good distraction for you and we can celebrate your birthday!

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Sorry to hear about the bad news, Dan. Riding might be just the thing your buddy would tell you that he would want you to enjoy in his memory. Hope to see you out there.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

thanks,
and I wasnt piushing for donations, I only added the link for the picture of his family, and a little more about them. But thanks for the added support for them Dave.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

No problem Dan. As far as I'm concerned all dirt bikers are part of my family.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

ohh And his oldest daughter, Samantha, is really big into dirtbikes too. I just hope it doesnt become a trend and we wind up with as many samantha's as we have Dave's in our group...it gets too confusing.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Hey Oskar, Gordon and Dan, After 3:30 today I won't have access to a computer until next Monday so are you still coming? I still plan on arriving between 8:30 and 9:00 Friday morning.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Give me a call on Thursday Dave, and I'll let you know. most likely I will be there, but not definite.

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Hey Dave
Just heard back from one of my riding buddies at Tc and Steve and I might be headed there for the weekend. It's it's cool with you I'll give you a call Thursday night to confirm if I'm coming. If I go to TC your both welcome to join me.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

OK guys...could be just me and Oskar then. Do either of you guys have a way of contacting him?

I printed out the map and it looks pretty straight forward

Posted by: Oskar---------------------

The gates dont open till around 9:00, so dont rush to get there too early, you'll just be sitting outside waiting.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Had a great time with Scooter and Oskar. The trails are nice wide quad trails. Not much technical but can be pretty fast. When Dan posts some pictures you'll see how Oskar made it up one hill

They are in the process of adding new trails and I will definitely go back. It was a fun, easy ride...except when I missed my back brake pedal and flew past Dan and Oskar and proceeded to show them how to really fly down one of the hills
