Blue laws?

Why are motorcycle dealers closed on Sundays AND Mondays, seemingly nationwide?

Posted by: IndyMX---------------------

Because they are staffed by guys that like to ride bikes, and since they have to be open on Saturday to service the folks that can't get into the shops on weekdays, they close Sunday & Monday so that they can ride too....

At least that's my guess.

well some are and thpse guys spend time with their families or ride. My family's dealership is open 7 daqys a week in the summer and closed wednesdays in the witner and i can honestly tell you that we never get to ride.

Indy is correct.

Back in the day when motorcycle shops were run by motorcycle enthusiasts, everybody went racing on Sunday and spent Monday with their familys. Most all shops were closed on Mondays. That was when you could walk into a shop and feel welcome. You could ask a question of the parts guy or service people and get help without an attitude. The owners were usually at the shop to greet you themselves and help you if their staff couldn't. The owners were usually knowledgeable people that enjoyed riding themselves. On Saturdays the shop became a place to hang-out and talk to other like minded enthusiasts. Many shop owners had monthly partys or gatherings and put on field events for their customers enjoyment.

Now most motorcycle shops are run by BA grads that are more interested in how much money they make not how much fun you can have running a business that you enjoy. That is clearly evident by the worthless, minimum wage people they hire to run the counter, their attitudes and the lack of help when you need it. The owners are nowhere to be found especially if you have a problem. They are not interested in motorcycles only the money they make by selling them. They no longer stock parts, even the the most popular and often needed parts. You have to pay first, then they order the part and if you are lucky they will call you when the part arrives in a week or so.

There are a few of the old style, family owned shops still around but they are getting fewer and farther between.

What are you doing posting in the flame forum sigurd? I thought you wanted it closed.

not all shops are bad we just had a shop move into saginaw RIDERS Powersports and the owner is always there and he rides. I have never had such good service. the man will bend over backwards fo your every need and stocks alot of parts or he will order anything you need.

Exellent service, advice, and its a friendly family owned shop that is really taking off in buisness so stop in if your in the area and check him out

That is why I still get most of my stuff from www.upstatecycle.com

They treat me like family.

I have barely been able to afford toilet paper the past 3 years so I have not spent much with them but I went in yesterday after not seeing anyone for over 6 months and it was like old times.

You can't beat the service and camaraderie.

The family places in these parts have none of that good stuff you mentioned.... Some of the guys ride a bit, mostly street bikes...But, I'll be damned if they do much of anything to promote any aspect of cycling. Heck, half the time it seems like they don't really even want to sell a cycle.

One the other hand I offered to pay for my parts up front and they said I didn't need to...So, maybe a little bit of gnarly bad attitude is made up that way.

In Wisconsin it is state law that any motor vehicle dealership must be closed on Sundays and no sales may be conducted or sales personnel on the premises. It is now almost a tradition that when car shopping everyone goes to the car lots on sunday and window shops. A few years back a couple enterprising salesmen set up in the street with binoculars and got the license plates of everyone shopping and what cars they looked at. They next looked up the vehicle owners and called them first thing Monday with great news about such and such car and how the price was going to be reduced just in case you knew anyone looking.

Now talk about Blue laws that burn me up:
10 years ago I was at a seminar in Mississippi for law enforcement and on Sunday after we checked into the hotel 5 of us went to the pool with a cooler full of beer. No sooner were we settled in and playing cards sipping a daddy pop when we were approached by a uniformed officer. Thinking he was there to welcome us one of the guys walked up to him and kiddingly offered him a beer. We were then firmly informed he was confiscating the cooler and beer as the county we were in did not allow public consumption of adult beverages on Sunday. the hotel was empty except for us and we were still pretty quiet so we thought he was kidding until his back up arrived and made it clear we were violating the law.
