CRF 250X Question

My 2 month old 2006 CRF 250X makes a loud ticking noise under power in the higher gears. Sounds like it's coming from the engine. There isn't any loss of power or performance, just a loud ticking-type noise in third gear and higher.
Do you know what this might be? The bike has about 225 miles on it.

Have you done your routine valve clearance checks? Your valves may need shims. Check your user manual. I think you're supposed to check/adjust them every 10 hours.

Could be chain noise too. In higher gears at low rpm the engine isn't very noisey, at least shouldn't be. Check your chain tension and the valve clearance. It's probly not the valves, but you will need to know how to service the top end anyway.
