Oil from Crankcase Breather Hose

I have a 2002 WR250...

After high RPM's I get about a 2+ cup spurt of oil out of the crankcase breather hose. It seems to me that pressure maybe building in the crank case causing this, I am about to check the compression to see if I have leaking rings.

I know this can not be normal operation as I have to put over a quart of oil in after each ride.

Can anyone give me any suggestions as to what else might be causing this problem and what I should check?

Thank you in advance for any and all help, it will be greatly appreciated.

If you are going through a quart of oil every ride it's time for a rebuild. When the rings wear out combustion pressure leaks into the crankcase and blows the oil out of the breather tube as well as burning it in the combustion chamber.

In all honesty, the bike is not mine. A friend asked me to look at it. I am pretty good with motors and my occupation is a mechanic by trade, so he thought I would have better luck than he with a diagnoses./ repair. Until I got it, he didn't know where the oil was going, he just knew it wasn't smoking any. I broke it down a bit today and found that it had an unusually large quantity of oil in it... this is after dumping about 4 cups via the breather hose. earlier Then it hit me... So I found the problem, I called him to ask how he checks his oil level and found out that he pulls off the dip stick and checks it, if the dip stick doesnt show anything then he fills it to where it shows full... yep thats right. Now I dont know how other bikes work, but I know the yamaha wr 250 and the 450 have the dipstick in the neck of the frame which requires you to run the engine for several minutes, shut it down, and then check the oil level. So long story short, he over-serviced the oil. Thanks for your help, Rich. I did check the compression and got about and average of 130-140 psig each test. Is that normal? I read several posts where the individual had less and some had much more. It is higher than my wifes barely used TTR230, so I figured it was GTG.

Tomorrow I plan on correctly servixing the oil and trying to make it burp up some more oil. I want to make sure I don't have another problem.
