'04 crf450... the chain has been slowly chewing up the inside of the aluminum frame by the swing arm rub bar guide.
I keep the tension as per the manual (@three fingers) in height.
The only thing is that the counter shaft sprocket has the raised side in.....??? so maybe the raised side out so there is a bit more room betweeen the frame and the chain....????

Does Honda recommend using the three finger method to tension a chain?
Or are you just assuming the manual states this?

Wouldn't it depend on how big your fingers are?? One friend of mine would have 4" of play in his chain if he used his giant fingers to measure. All the Honda manuals I've had stated chain play in both millimeters and inches. I missed the Greenwich Average Standard Finger Index Measurement (GASFIM), I guess. I really don't mean to poke fun, but I think Jaybird is right. Look in the manual again and let us know.

1.5 inches

Ok.... maybe more specific... I am keeping the 1.5 inch clearance, and using an 0 ring chain that supposedly will not stretch as much.
Wondering if the countershaft sprocket raised portion should face out or in?
Has anyone else noticed any wear on the inside of their frame from the chain rubbing?

watch chain tension while you compress the suspension...
