My brother came home tonight with this baby in the back of his truck.

It's a 2008 KX250F.

I know that they usually ship 4 strokes a bit on the lean side.. Can anyone tell me what would be the best starting point on the pilot & main?

Posted by: Chili---------------------

One of my buddies sons just bought one of those, I cringe to think of the mess I could make of those rims changing tires A couple of those raced our last few races this past fall bone stock and it didn't sound like they were far off on the jetting, just the odd decel pop.

Posted by: IndyMX---------------------

I rode it down the street tonight a bit, and it popped like mad.. but it is 45 degrees out too.. So, I guess you'll have that.

He can't wait to get it out in the mud!!

Me, too!

If you guys find a decent colder weather starting point, post it up so I can pass it on to my buddy. They are a sharp looking machine with the Magnesium colored clamps and hubs, the black rims etc. The down side is His son is a Junior class racer up here which means red numbers on white backgrounds so the black plates get replaced or covered.

Posted by: IndyMX---------------------

Yeah.. that is a drag...

He has a set of numbers coming from Decal Works.. Hopefully we'll get them on before he takes it out and trashes the plastic!

Gary! Nice bike! Try fattening up the mixture screw. Definitely get a set of them plastic rim savers! Worth their weight in gold! Wonder how the guy with the adjustable leak jet is doing. Gary you can cheat and call jd for some jets and needles. FMX would have been good today, Watermans would be about 5 hours!

Well, riding right now is out.. Since we just moved into a new place, we have enough to keep us busy for the moment. I gotta tell ya, 6 bikes in the garage is sick. If I do some fast talkin, perhaps a bit of beggin, I may add one more tomorrow.

Going to go look at a CRF450R... With luck, it'll come back in the van with me.

Posted by: sparkysakitas---------------------

nice bike love the look of the hubs and triples on the new bikes

Posted by: IndyMX---------------------

It's a very good looking bike, no doubt.

Posted by: nikki---------------------

Take that baby to Attica and get it dirty

Nice bike... good luck with the CRF450 tomorrow!

Posted by: sparkysakitas---------------------

Nope, going for the 2004 edition..

I'd go to Attica, but I hate that place. Too much sand & too many quads for my taste.

If I go anywhere soon, it'll be Haspin Acres. But, right now, I'm really not going riding anywhere. Too much to do.

Hopefully I'll be able to post pics of a fourfiddy tomorrow..

Posted by: sparkysakitas---------------------

ah well gl on the 450 tomorrow
i will be getting my rmz450 in a month or so but will have to stare at it for another 3 months before i can ride it

Posted by: IndyMX---------------------

Well it's settled.. I had to do some serious wheelin & dealing, and making promises I probably won't be able to keep, but I'll have my new bike sometime this week.

It is used, but I know the guy who rode the bike and know how he takes care of his stuff. So, it should not be a problem.

It's a 2004 CRF450R. It's a very nice bike.. I can't wait to get it on the track.

For what it's worth, I will be keeping my 2 strokes..

It's a big step for sure.. But, I can say that I'm ready.. I'm confident that I'll never see all of the power this thing makes, so it should last me a good while!!

I was going to do a 250, but this deal came up.. I couldn't pass on it.

Just because it has a butt load of power, doesn't mean I have to use it all!

Posted by: BSWIFT---------------------

I really liked the smooth power delivery on the CRF450's. Very consistant and strong. My YZ was brutal power and instant. Fun to ride but wore me out too fast. I'm happy back on the two stroke. If I were to ride tracks more, I'd get a 250f of any flavor.

I really thought long and hard about a 250F, but considering that I tip the scales at just a touch over 220 fully geared up, I thought a 450 would be better suited to hauling my fat butt around.

Can't wait to jump and know I have enough power to make it!

Not that I'll be riding them much. But, I'll keep them so friends who might want to ride who don't have a bike won't be tempted to ask to ride the fo'fiddy.

Cause I think you know the answer to that question...

Posted by: whenfoxforks-ruled---------------------

I know a deal on a 03 for 2400, or 2-04's @ 26 and 29, one has more after market stuff on it. I was going to go with one of them and do a top end on it. I ran across a guy that wants to get out of the easy payment plan, he owes 42 on an 06. There is a shop in Minnesota has some new 06's on fleabay at 46, no reserve and like 12 hours left.

Posted by: IndyMX---------------------

The bike I'm getting does have a butt load of goodies on it.. Most of all, I know the guy.

Posted by: Rich Rohrich---------------------

Indy - Find out what the current shim size setting is on the intakes, and find out how many times they have needed to be adjusted/changed. It will tell you a lot about the current condition of the valve-train.

Also find out if he has changed the cam chain tensioner and the water pump shaft and seals.

Posted by: IndyMX---------------------

I will do that as soon as possible..

I'll bet my son-in-law wishes I'd heard of these before I changed his tire last time!! Ooooouuuch!
You might try finding a copy of Motocross Action where they test this bike (if they even have, yet). They are usually pretty good with recommendations for jetting changes.
