Which Tire?

I need to replace my rear tire. I am looking for one that wears good and is good in tight woods/rocks/roots/ruts northwest trails. I know the craze is trials tires but I don't want one. Do I want a soft or hard compound?

I ride same terrain as you ... After trying several kinds , my favorite is Michelin M12 Cross Competition . I run a 130/80-18 . Handles well well with the added bonus of long wear . Dave

I run the Kenya trail master two D.O.T legal i ride tight woods sand roots and on rocks in the mountians and i love this tire cost only $57.00
