What Kind Of Dirt Bike To Get?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey.
I am new to the dirt bike world. I have never rode a dirt bike
my life but I know how to ride like the choke, gears, and clutch...
I was wondering what kind of bike to get

1) Your Physical Size - 5'6 and about 140lbs
2) How Physical/Aggressive Are You? - I can be very aggressive once
I get once to what I am riding. I am not like 24/7 aggressive but just
sometimes.
3) What Do You Plan To Ride- MX/SX Tracks,Woods,Fields Or Friends Or ?
I plan mostly just to ride with friends and in the woods and fields.
I might race later on but not with this bike. I might go to the track
on it every once in awhile
4) Do You Have Any Riding Experience? None what so ever.
5) Do you think you will race ? No, but I might go to the race track
with friends every once in awhile just to fun around
6) Are you mechanically inclined and will you be doing your own bike
work? No but I can learn quick and I know alot of people who know about
them.
7) Do YOU have a preferance to a brand/ motor choice (2 or 4 stroke)?
I really need to pick one but I dont so make sure you choose the best
one for me...
8) Do you have a dealer close by your home that you might use and what
brand(s) does he carry?
1 Honda Shop, 1 Powersports Store, 2 Yamaha Stores, And 2boyzcycle. 2boycycle is just a large
dirt bike store.
9) How much ($) do you plan to spend on a bike? Around 800
10) Do you live in California? No
11) Your age?15
12) Anything else that you think would help form an opinion
Mainly what I want is a durable bike that is cheap and easy maintance
and can be round all year long. I am planning to buy a used one anyway.
So what model and size would be helpful. I want a bike that will last
me awhile. I will probaly ride my bike alot and would like one that
doesnt tear up easy. Need one that can go on long rides. Like a couple
of hours. I might be asking for to much but tell me which one you think
fits the most of these. I am mainly looking for what size and stroke.
Remember I am brand new to dirt bikes.

P.S.
I know I have posted this once before and alot of other post in this
section but this is the last one included all the information I could
think of. Sorry but I am kinda nevrous and want to get the rite bike
for me.

when i started i rode a suzuki 125 4 stroke.. it was good to learn on and after about a couple of months i wanted to get my own bike...i never rode a 2 stroke before but always wanted to... i ended up getting a 2007 kx100.. it is a lot of bike for a small two stroke but i love it... i am 5'5 150 lbs.. i would recommend a kx100... if you want a 4 stroke then i think you should get a honda 230crf.. my brother gots one and i can handle it good... good enough to start with and i think that you will not get tired of it for a while... let me know if you have any questions and i will get back to you....

But what year model(s) should I get for my price range?

Feel free to comment more the better

If you only have $800 dollars to spend on a bike then you'll have to take whatever $800 bike comes along and hope for the best, and there aren't that many of them in the first place regardless of the year.

Expecting to get a decent bike that is fully functional and meets the requirements you posted while staying in your price range is probably unrealistic. You should save your money till you have something closer to the 1500-2000 range. Then you should be able to get a decent bike that you can ride rather than rebuild.

+1

My first bike was a 1986 CR 125.. And like Rich said, I spent twice the time working on it than I did riding it. It's not fun...

Well, let me rephrase that.. It's fun for the first day. Then it gets old, fast.

Yeah i agree a kx100 would be a good bike but for the gas idk and a honda or yamaha 230 would be nice, but i have been looking at used kx100's and there about 1500-2000 but u can find some 1999 or 2000 models for around 1200. I do not know about the 230's price range.
