Rear rack for kdx200

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: KDX'sforever---------------------

I want to carry a lunchbox on my 04 kdx200 if i could on looong rides. I was wondering if anyone made anything like this for it. like a metal rack that went kinda over the rear fenderor something.

I couldn't find anyone who still manufactured a rack so I made this one from mild steel tubing and four aluminum stand offs. It uses the rear fender braces for support where the factory tool bag attaches. This is an 04 KDX with the MX fender but you could make one to work with the stock fender.

Another Pic

Thats some nice fab work. Can you post pic of your spiked tires, and what that on front end?

Thanks,I can weld but I can't take credit for the welding on this project. A friend at work does a much cleaner job. The welding cost me two six packs of Bud but it was well worth it. That's an Acerbis aux gas tank on the front. It works very well. I just ordered a Clarke 3.6 gallon tank from rockymountainatv.com so I'll probably remove the aux tank and then just use it for extremely long rides.

I used up all the room I had fpr pics on this post. I don't know if I can post more pics if I start another thread or not. If you'd like more pics let me know and I'll try starting another thread.

Unable to add more pics here.

Those are homemade right? what kind of bolt do you use? I'm starting to look into making my own spiked tires also. I'd to be able to get at least 6 months use out of my bike.

Yes, I had some old push through carbide studs from a snowmobile and a couple worn tires laying around so it didn't cost anything. I put them on last Winter when we didn't have enough snow to ride my snowmobile but too much snow to ride my bike. They work great on ice but are way too agressive for frozen dirt. I used heavy duty tubes and inflated the tires to around 30 psi so they wouln't flex and rip out the studs. I didn't put them on this Winter because we've had so much snow. They really hook up well. You can't spin the rear tire unless you lean over the bars while standing and dump the clutch. It corners on ice pretty well too. It's a blast because you can make it do a controlled slide in the corners if you want it to.

Exeter, you do any NETA events with that Sherco? Sorry for the off-topic post, but your account doesn't accept PMs.

Hi Blackduc98, I didn't realize my private messaging was selected off. I just activated it so it should work now. I think we've already strayed from the topic about as far as we can, so a little more can't hurt, right? There's a tiny group of trials riders up here in central Maine that got me interested. The core members of that group held a NETA event a couple of years ago in Dedham and I did check for them that weekend but I'm afraid I ride even worse when people are watching me so I wasn't really interested in trying it myself. Since that event the gang hasn't held another and I live so far away from all the other events that I haven't been to one since. I really enjoyed the one I did go to though. Blackduc, Did you ever come up with those KDX crash bars you wanted to build? I never came up with any myself. Trust me, I need em. Hehe

Posted by: blackduc98---------------------

No, I never built the crash bars - my solution is to ride my Montesa trials bike instead, where the radiator is fully protected by the frame :-) I did install a set of Works Connection radiator braces, and they work surprisingly well. They look kinda flimsy, so I was skeptical but figured better something than nothing. To my surprise they've done a pretty good job. Around here guys who seriously compete in enduros tend to go for the Enduro Engineering rad guards, but I don't think EE makes guards for KDX.

That rack which you built looks awesome! Could be a big plus for doing trail maintenance.
