Weird Oil Question

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: madeincanada123---------------------

My buddy said he runs an ounce of oil with every gallon of gas in his 250f. He said it helps keep the valves working properly. Is this stupid or would it really help?

It's stupid, or more specifically specious reasoning. I put oil in my gas and I didn't have valve problems, so oil must stop valves from wearing out.

Lisa Simpson explains this sort of lunkhead logic better than I can.

Homer: Not a bear in sight. The Bear Patrol must be working like a charm!
Lisa: That's specious reasoning, Dad.
Homer: Thank you, dear.
Lisa: By your logic I could claim that this rock keeps tigers away.
Homer: Oh, how does it work?
Lisa: It doesn't work.
Homer: Uh-huh.
Lisa: It's just a stupid rock.
Homer: Uh-huh.
Lisa: But I don't see any tigers around, do you?
[Homer thinks of this, then pulls out some money]
Homer: Lisa, I want to buy your rock.

Rich is being way too nice when explaining your friends oil logic or lack thereof.

Your buddy doesn't understand much about the oiling system on his bike or that adding any oil to gas lowers the fuel quality.

Don't do it...

Don't confuse this as a suggestion about not adding oil to your two stroke bikes fuel.

So will you throw a pint of oil in your car gas tank then?

If putting an ounce of oil in your thumper's gas helps your valves, don't you think everyone would do it? Wouldn't it be in every owner's manual?

He smokes the competition that way...
