New to the site....pardon my ignorance.

Is there any differences in the 2006 KX250F thru 2008? It's a 4 stroke correct?

Posted by: atkkid250---------------------

yup its a four stroke, the carbs are different, from the 05, to the 08 the compression is different, 08=13:5:1, 05 = 12:5:1.
and finally the 08 is a true 250 cc, while the 05 is merely a 249. look it up on the yamaha website, i believe you can compare?

I would try the Kawasaki site first.

haha my bad, damm how'd i do that one? switched them out. damm. o well. what he said lol. wowwwww, alztheimers at such a young age... what is in the food my parents feed me? lol

lol yeah, the 2006, 2007 and 2008 kx250f's aren't much different at all. I've owned a 2006 and my buddy just bought a brand new '08... the '08 has a little more bottom due to a slighly different cam and the suspension is a bit more plush; tiny differences though.

thanks for input

The review in Motocross action gave the KX250F a good review. They said the 08 engine felt like a clone to the 07. The bike is all about power. It lacks a little low end but hits hard at 7,000rpms and pulls good up to 13,000. The only flaw was that shifting from 2 to 3 ends up staying in 2 if you dont give it enough foot. For trail riding it is good but racing, the shifing might be a little hard if your on the gas. Same goes for the 07 model too. Still a great bike

I know you thought Yamaha did some magic to come up with a displacement of 250cc, but you'd be wrong.

It's still 249cc. Do the math.

Posted by: atkkid250---------------------

how so? on their website they say teh dimensions right haha. my bad. my friend has allready lloked this up so he told me. thats why i only knew the 08 to 05. why would they label one as 249 and the other as a true 250 then? thats nutty

Posted by: IndyMX---------------------

Marketing.

Posted by: atkkid250---------------------

ahh lol that would explain alot. why are they allways one cc off? is it easier to make the 249. dimension wise? i hardly ever see an actual 250. same with the 150's as well.

Posted by: tyler_43---------------------

i dunno most bikes have always been that way... the exception being the 80's before they changed them to 85's. My yz125 is 124cc... I dunno maybe the theory is if a certain organization only allows you to have a 125cc bike in a certain class if it was a 125cc to start with it could wear and become a 125.1cc etc... though that's not gonna happen with any new bike as they call have coated cylinders. Though this is just my theory, I'm probably completely off haha

One last question on the kx 250f....will it be suitable for more off-road riding than track? I just have a smoking deal on one that I hate to turn down if it does just fine. My other option was a CRF250x for off-roading

Posted by: _JOE_---------------------

The crf-x is a much better off-road bike in my opinion.

If the KXF is a good deal I wouldn't turn it down. The CRF-X has a headlight and different gearing I think (main differences).

It also has somewhat restrictive exhaust and a differen't cam than the CRF. Its still fast, just not as fast as a KXF would be.

So I don't know how fast you are planning on going, but the KXF will be plenty fast, but require a headlight to ride at night. The CRF-X has the headlight, but will require some mods to bring it up to par with a KXF.

The crf-x is ported different and has a different cam than the mx version. It also has a wide ratio tranny so it will have a higher top speed which is nice for long fire roads, but less ferocious acceleration. The x has smoother acceleration and plusher suspension. And as mentioned, lighting. It is also e-start.
