Is lugging okay?

I routinely pass through my neighborhood on my CRF250X to get to some trails nearby and in order to cause the least amount of disturbance among the neighbors I keep it revved way down low and quiet. I can feel it chugging and clanking and it makes me wonder if this could be more harmful to the engine than bouncing it off the rev limiter.
For that matter, I try to keep it revved as low as possible while riding trails because I want to be as gentle as I can with the fragile four stroke grenade I've heard so many horror stories about.

Yes, I AM afraid of my bike.
(financially speaking)

Me Too. Which is why i have a two stroke. JK. I would say that it is probably not hurting your bike. I honestly have had to do the same with mine and it doesn't seem to bother it at all.You just might wait for someone else who has a little better idea than i do.

It's not good to lug your bike. Especially under power. If you are only cruising through the neighborhood, not under power, you should be ok. Try to keep the chugging and clanking to a minimum.

You will put grooves in the other side of the basket, you will have to file left handed, horrible experience to say the least. Seriously, if you did it a lot, the back and forth will grow greater till failure. You need a tapered plug, tethered and slightly smaller than your exhaust, pointing down would be even better. A nice snug fit should hold till half throttle. Pop it in when you need it, and when you open it up, it should blow out?
