i am guessing a L in jersey and pants and boots a 11 and maybe a M or L helmet never really tried on any gear i am about 5'9 and 180 average build if that helps

Pants usually come in waist sizes -even inches.
To get a good fitting helmet is very important and I would suggest that be one item you try on at a shop and then buy new either at the shop or on line. Different makes will fit drastically different so be sure to order the one that fits you the best. 
All the other gear used is just as good as new for starting out. Another economical option is to look at online closeouts to get great deals on new gear

i have a 34 waist and i tried a couple helmets at the shop and i was a M or L depending on the brand but yeah i agree that is one of the first things i was going to buy

I second Oldguy's advice. While I totally understand your desire to spend as little as you have to, remember that this is NOT and inexpensive sport. Quality protection is far cheaper than hospitalization(I speak from experience.) The auction site will have lots to choose from. Close outs are best to save money on, you'll be wearing "last years" styles but who cares. Your helmet and boots are worth paying the new price.
