Fuji Camera

What about a Fuji Finepix S1000 10mp 12x optical zoom? Its factory refurbished for 170 bucks. Comes with usb cable 4gb SD memory card. Looking for a good camera without dropping 4 or 5 hundred bucks. Just something lug around the races. Will this do the trick?

Don't know anything about that specific camera but Fuji makes some very good cameras in general.

Here is a review from a very good site http://www.steves-digicams.com/2008...ji_s1000fd.html

Overall based on the conclusions in that review if you just want a camera for grabbing a few shots of your buddies on raceday it should be fine, if you are looking to get into taking a lot of action shots you can likely do better although not for that same price point.

I have a Fuji E900 (an earlier version of what you are looking at) , and it's a fantastic camera overall, but a poor choice for any sort of action shooting. It can be done, but it's tough to get good results.

For non-action stuff, you'll find it to be amazing. It produces really impressive pictures for a little pocket camera.

Here's a couple of sample shots from my E900 to give you an idea of the quality.

Those shots look very good to me. I'm still looking around and I found a S700. Can I assume its an earlier model than the 900 or 1000.

I'm not really familiar with the S700 but I found this very positive review at Steve's Digicams (a good review site) :

Bottom line - Fujifilm's FinePix S700 is a very capable and appealing "entry-level" prosumer digicam. With 7-megapixels, a versatile 38-380mm 10x zoom lens, loads of useful exposure modes, great performance, and comfortable SLR style body, the S700 will be hard to beat, especially with an MSRP of only US$249 or less! The only downfalls I found were the above average amounts of purple fringing, and the fact the LCD blacks out in between shots (when shooting in a sequence not burst mode.)

I went with the S700 Finepix. I felt like it was the best buy for the money. It came this afternoon I will read up on it and maybe try to post a pic. May need some help with that though.
