sort of worried about getting a 4-stroke.

i recently blew up my two stroke. im going to keep that and rebuild it. first i want to get on a four stroke though. i have
some concerns. ive been reading and reading. i have a stack of assorted magazines that ive gone through. i would like a crf450r. im not sure of the year yet. i do alot of open pit riding and trail ridng. i have been tossing around the thought of racing. one of my concerns is that i heard the 450s tend to over heat when in trails. i love the open pit and all the hill climbs i do but i have to be able to ride trails to. the trails i ride are next to the trails so its nice to ride the pit and go for a technical trail ride.... i heard they stall when going slower but from what i understand the fix for that is bumping up the idle a littler higher. is the overheating an easy fix? thanks for any and all help you guys give me.

-mike.

ride faster. simple solution. but the 450s do fine on the trails. I love mine. the 05+ are the best years

This is my thought on the crf450. If you ride in single track then the 450R is the wrong choice. Everybody has there own idea of single track mine is tighter the better. My 450 would puke coolant and stall here and there. Now if you ride in the open trails then you should be alright with the 450R. Look at the 450X model which is better suited for trail riding.

Unless your racing, even more so, because your doing a lot of trail riding you would be better served to get the 450x. It has a bigger gas tank and electric starting.

Yes it is restriced some over the 450r. But you can almost turn a 450x into a 450r, with a different muffler and by pulling the emission crap off. Although you can not add electric starting to a 450r, and that's huge. There are even some guys racing a 450x just because it has electric starting.

thanks guys. i have ridden a 450x. the power just wasnt there for me. i ride alot of open pits where i do hill climbs and jump. the trails i ride are pretty open, you can get going 10-15mph on them. is that to slow or? thanks for all the help guys.

The 450X and R and like 2 totally different bikes. Different heads, cams, frames, gear ratios, radiators, suspension, bodywork, etc.

From reading your other post a 450R will suit you good. If you find you have cooling issues (probably wont at those speeds) then just buy some larger core radiators. Pretty inexpensive these days on ebay.

And a word of advice, dont buy the first year of a new bike design!!!!

your mean like the 09's how they changed to fuel injection. so they can weed out any and all issues with new things that have been changed?

I always rode 250 2 stroke.I just bought a 2004 yz250f.Im going to do a lot of trail riding.I was only able to ride it on the street because of the wheather. It seemed like it had decent power. Is there any comments out there about the pluses of owning a 4 stroke than a 2 stroke?sorry 2 get off the topic
