Hello. I'm 26 years old and currenty started riding again. I have a 96rm80 2 stroke right now that I got last September. I learned quickly on it and now want another bike. However I want a 4 stroke something I can just putt around and up hills with. With the 2 stroke I have to really open it up to get up hills. I'm looking at TTR125L and DRZ125L and also an XR100 all of them are 2003 models and get get a decent one on craigslist for around $800 but I'm having trouble deciding which is better for me. I'm not looking to go really really fast so thats not an issue just want one thats gonna last and that I'll be happy with for a year or 2.

the XR100 is a lot shorter and smaller than either of those 125 models.

Other than that, I believe there is a bigger aftermarket for the TTR than the DRZ, but I've spent more time around the TTR, so I could be biased.

I would say go with a bigger engine size than a 125. If price is not an issue, I'd suggest a CRF 230F from honda.

I am not sure as to your height/weight, but if you can sit on the RM, the 230 should be just fine.

If cost is the main factor, I'd go with the TTR 125, or hold out just a little longer for a Honda CRF150F. The 2003 models are getting to be pretty close to 1000 last time I checked.

I agree with the previous choices TTR 125L or CRF150F. The Honda's a bit taller and longer. If you live close, come test ride ours.

I'm a little too long in the leg to ride a TTR125 full time, but I have played on one. Great bike for putting around on and having a good time. I'm sure if you contact the owners of the bikes you're interested in they will try to accommodate a test ride. Hopping on is the only way to know what's really right for you.

Happy shopping and good luck!

how long have you been riding? 0-2 months you should get a crf150f $1200-$1700,2-3 months get the crf230f $2000-$2300,3-5 months get a crf150r $2700-$3100

i wouldnt buy the 150R if want to putt around. like the rm it is a high performance race bike that will require a lot of maintenance.

also i would stay away from a 230 (and maybe even the 150f) as they are very heavy. only plus side to them is that after you lift the monster up they have the electric start.

How tall are you? and what are you tipping the scales at?

Also, considering that your RM-80 will actually have more power and be lighter than any 4 stroke 100 or 125, you will be giving up some performance by making that switch. Although, the RM-80 will have a louder exhaust note and have a "peaky" powerband compared to any of the bikes on your thumper list.

If you really want to get a 100, 125 or even a small 200 4 stroke trail bike, then get whatever you want because I can not say that anyone of them is really "bad". So just go with what ever the closest dealership has to offer. If that's a Honda Dealership then find an XR that fits you the best and that you like the most.
