hello, i was wondering what was the best octane to run in my yzf250, iv been using high test (93), and it seems happy, but if i increase the octane, will it run better or will it make the engine run too much hotter/shorten engine life? am i suppose ta adjust the carberator when i change the octane? how do i go about doing this? whats ur recomended octane? thanks for the advice!

If it's running fine on 93, don't mess with it. Running a higher octane won't gain anything for you. It'll just cost you more.
Octane will not cause your engine to perform any better, or give you more power.
The higher the octane, the more your engine will resist knocking. If it's not knocking on 93, there's no reason to change.
If you happen to make changes to the engine that raise the compression ratio, you may need to run higher octane.

If the bike's happy stay with 93 and you'll be happier. Race fuel works well and you would like it. What I found when we ran it was that it's more sensative to temperture changes. Causing you to make carb changes/adjustments not normally required. Then you run out of race gas and are somewhere you can't get it and have to buy 93 and start all over again.

Call me crazy, but once I made the jump to straight race gas (Powermist T-105) seems like my 2-stoke motors would last forever where beforehand I might need to change top ends twice a year or at least once and with the straight race gas the last bike I raced where I would practice/ride almost everyday after work and race a minimum of six races a year, I never had to replace the top end in it before I got rid of it.
On the flip side, when I tried using Klotz octane booster in pump gas that's when I was going through two top-ends a season on my 250's.
