Kids Books and the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008

As noted in other posts, minis have had to be pulled from the market because of the overbroad Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008. (In my legal opinion, I think that part of it will blow over because I think the gov will grant an exception to minis - the related laws and provisions are pretty explicit that bicycles and motorized vehicles are not "Toys". Nevertheless, the companies have to pull the items until the exception is granted.).

Nevertheless, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 is creating various other ridiculous complications.

For example, all children's books printed before 1985 are now illegal. See here:

It would certainly be nice if legislators would actually read what's before them before they vote, but I guess that's too much to ask of them.

Maybe they have a difficult time reading because of all the lead they ingested as children.

I thought it was the lead in their asses that was causing the problem.

Posted by: Patman---------------------

Well if you eat it then it has to go somewhere and that seems like a logical spot.

Nail and head Rich, very nice indeed! I would like to go into their houses and see how many have lead water services bringing in their potable water! That may help the shortage of water, and more work for me? They, I am afraid are lost for ever. Can't help lazy and greedy?

I think the underlying motivation is to lower the trade deficit.
"If you can't compete then kick 'em in the balls!"

In all fairness though, it's hard to compete in the foreign market when we're held to higher standards than imports.

I heard on the morning news that libraries are being asked to remove such books from their shelves. Most libraries are refusing to comply.

At some point the individual states will stand up and call b.s. Right?

It is my understanding there are about 11 states that are considering succeeding from the nation right now. The first one that actually does it may become my new home.

Glad to see you back EXCman.

South Carolina is doing a lot of posturing but not sure if Governor Sanford has the political will to stand up to everyone else.

I think if he had more support he would fight this more.

He has initially refused any bailout money then caved and said only if he can use it to pay state debt and that was denied so now he is saying only if he can improve schools.

Some things I really like about Sanford... others leave me with some question marks.

Thanks Pred.

I'm serious. This has gotten so far out of wack it's incredible. There are those in Kaliforniastan that are wanting to split the state into two states. The farmers in the central part of the state are suffering and losing their farms because the libs along the coast are telling them how to run their businesses. Of course, the libs don't have a clue as to what the farmers are up against, they only want to tell everybody else what to do and how to run their lives.

Kaliforniastan used to be one of the biggest producers of fruit in the nation. (Not the San Francisco type of fruits.) We always had delicious, fresh fruit. The libs cut the water to the farms to protect some fish and the farms can't survive. Now, a lot of our fruit comes from south of the border. The fruit we buy today is crap. It goes bad before you can even eat it and what doesn't go bad tastes like ****. And God knows what chemicals they use on it.

Thanks libs. You guys are doing a wonderful job.

I heard Oklahoma is really pushing for succession. Maybe if the morons in Washington lose a few states, they might get the hint.

Set me up a trailer behind your shack Pred. I may be there sooner than you think.
