KDX220 - Kicker / Start Issues

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Byte2009---------------------

All,

I need some assistance in gettting my bike to start agin.

I started it this monring fine - then I performed my planned operation to replace the worn shift shaft.

I successfully replaced this worn shift shaft and put everything back together.

Now, I cannot start bike becuase it seems the kicker does not fully go down and there seems to be no resistance I normally feel you get from the piston compression working, etc..

I think either the kicker shaft does not fully rotate or I have jammed something up inside the case... :-(

Can anyone assist here?

BTW - I had to remove (and re-install) the clutch basket to access the shift shaft.

I have obviously changed something and not done somehtign right to have this occur..

Help?

You follow the manual? Does it bump start? I'm not much of an expert but maybe the spring slipped out?

The problem could be the clutch if it is not engaging. All else aside, you'll have to tear into it again and try to see what the problem may be. Some pictures would surely assist diagnosis. Bump starting is just roll starting. Put it in neutral and get a good roll, then pop it up into 2nd or 3rd and drop the clutch.

Try to bump on a slight hill too... lay back on the back end when you pop it as well.

anyone have a picture of how these gears are supposed to be engaging?

personally, I would not even try to start that bike until I figured out what I did wrong. If there is something loose that can jamb between the kickstart gear and the clutch basket gear, you will destroy your case(s) . If it worked before you took it apart, then you put it together wrong. Fix it before starting it.
