looking for some information on how to get to/ install a new point on this bike. this would be appreciated.

The points are behind the flywheel. It's possible to adjust them through the slots in the flywheel, but you really need to remove the flywheel to fit a new set of points.

Sweet bike! I had one almost 20 years ago.

The points should look like part #10 in this diagram (bottom left):

ok yes that is what I bought. Thanks all for the help. Do you have to replace the condenser at the same time?
Posted by: Mad Norris---------------------
If the condenser was working, there's no need to replace it.
You'll probably need a flywheel puller to get the flywheel off, which is the hardest part of changing points.

Hmm I see. The set I bought came with a new condenser and wasn't sure if it was a good idea to replace it at the same time. I have to admit I have no clue about electronics like this on bikes. So my main concern is doing any further damage.

If you have a new one it would be silly not to change it out while the flywheel is off. Keep the old one as an emergency spare if it's still working.

Yeah, as _JOE_ said.
With the battery disconnected, you can't really damage anything by messing around with the points & condenser (unless you use a hammer). If you do happen to connect the wires incorrectly, or set the wrong points gap, the bike just won't start (no spark), but no damage will be done.
