tank close to engine and pipe

Hi - just after a bit of advice. I'm building up a project bike using an air cooled KDX200 motor. I'm fabricating an alloy tank. The lobes of the tank run close to the cylinder head (on one side) and close to the expansion chamber on the other. Are there likely to be any issues with the fuel getting too hot?

hi, i saw your thread on kdx.
keep in mind that a two stoke exhaust donīt run hot as a 4st. i donīt see any problem.
most of the 80īs run the pipe almost touching the gas tank. BUT the gas tank is plastic, not aluminium. and many street bikes run the exhaut and head close to metal (steel) tank. so i will leave the final answer to experts.
on thing you may do is put on bottom of the gas tank some heat insulation strap. something like this:

by the way, great work!!!!

Insulating materials on the bottom of the tank will help, and aluminum tends to dissipate heat pretty well. Try testing it with and infrared thermometer in a controlled environment.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm keen to know more about the characteristics of the fuel if it did get heated up. Would it evaporate through the filler cap, or create a flammable hazard, or both?
