Knee injury update

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Don Marsh---------------------

For those of you who didn't know, I hit a stump rally hard pre-riding the "Marsh Madness " section, I never crashed, I was standing up and knocked my foot off the peg and jammed my foot really hard on another stump.

Well for all my friends who called and or asked, thanks here is the answer....Dr. today.
Not good.
Torn ACL, Medial & Lateral Meniscus. Surgery on the 27th, Crutches for 6-8 Weeks.

Done for the season. I guess I will tear down the bike and polish the frame....

Another looooog winter of rehab, I will be back next year......

It was the last time laying out JP that I did the other knee is there a pattern here?

Posted by: IndyMX---------------------

Sounds like you're going to be going thru what I am right now.

It sucks.

Posted by: 09oneL---------------------

Sorry to hear that Don.

Thanks for your help to our sport.

Get well soon our sport needs you (no pun intended).

Posted by: salgeek---------------------

Sorry to hear that news Don. You have been on crutches far too often of late.

Posted by: Don Marsh---------------------

Yeah, I have memories of two years ago still in my head!
Hopefully I won't have to deal with a Northern Michigan Winter on them this time.

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

Don
Hurry up and heal fast and get back in the mix. We (the B-54's soon to be B 55's) can"t let these young punk 50 year olds infiltrate the class and win all the races.

Once again thank you very much for being ace gas man for myself and the "kids" I brought to the race. And especially for being at that road crossing late iin the race so we got a very needed drink before pressing on, that was a sweet surprise. Also thanks for taking personal care of my old azz needs at the gas stops, that was nice of you.

Now, quit f-ing up your knees at JP in the future.

Thanks

B-54 Freddy

Dude what are you talking about, six to eight weeks puts you at the end of October. Prime riding season, plus there is still good riding down South.

FYI- looks like my tumble in the moon rocks at the Loose Moose is going to get me some shoulder surger. I gots me a torn rotatorcuff.

Posted by: TCTrailrider---------------------

I told you Dumb A--. Stay behind me & be safe. Your old, reactions suck, can't safely run with the youngins. Now I need to find someone else to ride with Finding another with a truck, toy hauler and full fridge ain't going to be easy. Heal well.

Don - I think the peg height on KTM's is a tad higher than on the Yamaha's.

Feet must be on the pegs though

Heal fast!

Posted by: Don Marsh---------------------

Ward, the problem is that after the crutches come the Rehab.

TCT, thanks for the word of encouragement....JERK!

Scott, I am currently researching an aftermarket moped option so I have a flat deck to set my feet on.

Tommy,

Posted by: ride2live---------------------

Don,

Sorry to hear you're out for surgery! Take care and heal well, see you around!

Bill

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Don,

This is not the way you planned to spend this Summer. Sorry.
I hope all goes well with the surgery and rehab.

With surgery on the 27th, I am not going to call about helping at the Baby Bear.

Mike

I, um, don't know what to say. You sound like my wife. I did pitch a new bike for you to your better half. She seemed a little cold to the idea.

Thanks. I am having surgery Sept. 2nd and hoping to be riding again by the end of October, but I think my racing career for this year is done.

Posted by: Loctite---------------------

Don - I feel your pain. I had no idea your injury was that bad. Best of luck with the surgery. As you know the proper rehab will make all the difference in returning to racing. I am riding once again since smashing my heel, but no racing this season.

Craig

Posted by: TCTrailrider---------------------

Surgery was scheduled for 9:30am today. Since I have not heard otherwise I'm guessing he survived the anesthia.

Posted by: salgeek---------------------

He is probably in afternoon rehab working the knee already.

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Don - I hope all went well and they did surgery on the correct knee.

Posted by: tdunn976---------------------

Don, I hope all went well and not nearly as bad as the other knee.
Heal fast!

Posted by: Don Marsh---------------------

Denney (JERK) I did wake up. I did not use any anesthia this time. I used the "John Wayne Type".......... Whiskey Straight Up.

Surgery went better than expected, not as much damage as the last time.
I get to put weight on it as "tolerated" and start streching it out tonight!

Last nite I rode the Vasa MTB trail as a last hurrah so the "Rehab" has started.

"career"?? I'm changing your name to Larry.

Posted by: Don Marsh---------------------

Just got back from PT ......walking out without crutches. It feels good to be walking again. I get to walk on it and do exersizes on it for a few hours and then I have to rest it.
I may even make it to the gym tomorrow morning if I can get back on schedule.

Hope to see everyone this weekend while I am gimping around.

Posted by: SGJ_Johansen---------------------

I get X-rays on mine tomorrow I have been still riding and walking in pain.

Brian

Posted by: Don Marsh---------------------

Good luck tomorrow Brian. I would bet it is an ACL, we can compare notes.....

Posted by: Wolverine423---------------------

Another swan song?..

Posted by: Don Marsh---------------------

More like a dragon fly song.........

Posted by: ws6transam---------------------

I blew my ACL in March of 1994, popping wheelies on a '78 DT175, of all things . April of '94 was surgery time, and the summer was spent in rehab.
The last fourteen years have been seeing the knee get 'warm' and arthritic on occasion.

Fast forward to 2008, and in September my knee started hurting again, as soon as I got the WR500. Then, it began grinding and popping, so an exploratory December surgery turned up a sheathe of scar tissue had broken loose around the ACL, balling up on the inside of the knee in what the doctor calls an acorn. The doctor trimmed the acorn out, and Voila! my knee feels better than ever, and I've been thoroughly enjoying my ol' dirt bike. Thank you!! It's almost as if I hadn't injured it in the first place.
I'm a happy ACL vet. I hope yours goes just as smoothly.

Posted by: SGJ_Johansen---------------------

Don,

MRI tomorrow doc suspects torn MLL or MML along with a MCL. Told me no more running walking, or anything just to sit on my butt until results are back. Did not tell I have riding

Posted by: Don Marsh---------------------

Bring on the mommy phone comments but I just had to shout out.

Milestone, first spinning class. 40 days out of surgery. The jumps were hard and I didn't get to max resistance but man it felt great.

Posted by: iroc8210---------------------

Nice Don...I'll definitely join you a few times this fall to check it out

Posted by: SGJ_Johansen---------------------

going in the 19th to get my knee fixed, so chances of me making this year are not good.

Brian

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Ring! Ring! Ring!!!

Don't forget the wool skirt!

Posted by: salgeek---------------------

That was fast... only 40 days and spinning away.

Posted by: racer493---------------------

im hoping that if Alan is making fun of me he must at least like me. I like to call it a kilt not a skirt.

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

You can ask him at Trailfest. I am sure he will give you an honest answer, but be prepared.

Posted by: Don Marsh---------------------

Good News saw the Doc today, I can start to ride the MTB, easily as he put it. I guess he means pike path stuff until the hunters are out of the woods, if there is no snow then.
No dirt bike until Feb. Look out GA National here I come.

Get your entry in NOW and pray it don't rain. I'm skipping that one.

Posted by: Don Marsh---------------------

Rode it before and it was fun.

Posted by: salgeek---------------------

A national your 1st ride back after 9 months on the quad couch.

on your progress.

I bet you would change your mind if it rained for 5 days before the event as well as the day of the event.....

I don't care if it rains in Sumter, it just gets better. Georgia is too risky to have to sign up in November to be assured to race in February. So I'll skip that one, long drive to not enjoy it possibly. But considering it's your first chance to ride again it's understandable you would want to risk it.

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Great news Don!!!

Maybe we will get a chance to mountain bike on a warm day in December on the west side of Kalkaska.

Posted by: Don Marsh---------------------

My thoughts exacly

Posted by: SGJ_Johansen---------------------

Only 4 more weeks of crutches and brace, doc told me they had to rescope my knee after the oct operation as there was more torn stuff in the knee. He also said that it was one of the worst ACl tears he had seen. I am healing nicely now.

Posted by: TCTrailrider---------------------

If it has to happen, I guess this is a good time of the year. Heal well Brian. When I did mine, I made my way back to your truck, ate your lunch and drank you beer. Wish I would have been there to help.

Posted by: SGJ_Johansen---------------------

Glad I could help in your recovery Denny

Posted by: bruno670---------------------

Hard to believe such a low speed dab could make such a mess. But glad you are on the mend Brian.
