08 CRF450R Steering damper question

Can someone shed some light on how to adjust the OEM steering damper on the 08 CRF450? Obviously there is a small element on the damper which is turned in or out - does it increase the effect of the damper when turned out or in? I bought my bike second-hand and don't have a factory manual and can't find a manual online so any tips would be appreciated.

yes there is an adjustment knob. It is not a stablizer for offcenter. IT only works when the bars are turned like in the corners.
