Let's try this again, ride at Lost Trails on 9/5

I know Dan will be there, anyone else?

Posted by: simmeth---------------------

Hmmmm.... sounds tempting. I haven't ridden with anyone on this site yet but would like to. Lost trails is just over 2 hours from me but I still need some gear... boots at least. Not to mention my bike needs new fork seals :-(
What difficulty trails do you guys plan on taking?

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

They don't have anything extremely difficult. I'm looking forward to a nice easy ride.

What size boots do you need? I have a used pair of Tech 8's.

Posted by: simmeth---------------------

For shoe size i'm between 11 and 12 depending on the brand. Haven't even taken the time to try on boots.. money was tight for a little while with my cars constantly blowing up on me. But that worked out since I got a pickup now and can haul my bike. Plus the money situation is getting better, i'll be able to pick up a pair of boots just before the season is over.

Are you sure your wife will let you out to ride this time Dave?

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Anyone else coming? Trigger? Fireman? Gordon? Chucke? Jason? Nate?

Posted by: 53fireman---------------------

I'm open that day, depends on where the majority are going. I'm down for whatever - RAC or Lost Trails

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Might work for me if there's enough interest, I'd like to see the place and some old friends but right now I'll leave myself open for RAC. Dave, Dan if you want to join us at RAC one day PM me and I'll let you know how we can work that.

Posted by: JasonJ---------------------

We shall see.

Posted by: 53fireman---------------------

I'm up for the Lost Trails ride, haven't been there in a while, and I might be able to get a couple guys to come... how are the trails lately? Last I was there they were all rutted out from alot of rain and alot of people riding in the mud. Did they cut anymore single track sections? Hopefully Gordon and the gang will check it out as well.

Posted by: flyingfuzzball---------------------

I would love to but last time i took the bike I almost didnt make it back...

I am just having all sorts of bike problems!

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

I might be bringing one extra person too.

I'm not sure of the trail conditions. Rutted, washed out, mud doesn't bother me...just more of a challenge Dan should be able to fill us in once he gets back from Southwick.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

I don't know when you were there last, but the trails havent changed much, some are rutted, some are rocky, some are smooth, a few trails have been closed, but many more have opened.

As for single track, again, I dont know when you were there last, I did cut a new section this past spring, and marked another section which hasnt been cut yet for the adventurous few who want to tackle it. Lots of rock on the uncut single track, and all covered with low brush to hide it until you hit for that added excitement. It will be cut this fall, as well as another section of single track which I havent mapped out yet.

You won't be able to compare the single track to what you guys ride at RAC since Lost Trails is much more limited to space. Its just a few miles of trail I cut for those who want to get off the ATV trails for a little bit.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

There are definitely more trails since the last time I was there. Maybe we can help you ride in the new stuff!

You still have all week to get the bike running

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

What time is good to meet? I can get there between 9 and 9:15

Posted by: Trigger1911---------------------

Let's roll! JasonJ, are you in like last time?

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Sounds good to me Dave, they open at 9

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Dan, Where is the best place to meet? I only remember the lot on the left after the sign in trailer.

We might even have 8 people! Let's get a tally going..I will be there with maybe one extra.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Here's the best I can figure out. I count at least 10 if all here can make it:

simmeth (did ya get some boots?)
Gordon
Jason
fireman + 1-2
Trigger
Dan
flyingfuzzball (if he can get the stick out of his carb)
Me +1

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Lets see how many we have, then we can pick a spot to meet. If we have enough for the discount, its probably best to meet at one of the gas stations and all head in together. If we dont have enough, we can meet at the park.

I haven't heard back from Nate yet, I did email him with the date change to see if he could make it.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

If flyingfuzzball makes it, I believe it would be him and his dad. And what about Chucke, is he up for this ride?

Posted by: JasonJ---------------------

Yeah I suppose. I have an extra pair of size 12 boots in my van.

Posted by: Trigger1911---------------------

Looks like me and Jason are in for a ride!!!

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

So it's 5 for now:

Trigger
Jason
Me + 1
Dan

What happened to fireman, simmeth, Gordon and fuzzball?

Posted by: simmeth---------------------

Still undecided, been going down to Atlantic City a lot this week. Spent my money on a new Palm Pre, haven't got boots yet, may take a look today or tomorrow... which reminds me, i saw a pair online and posted about it and forgot to check for replies. I will give an answer tomorrow..... believe it or not i've never been to a legit place to ride so its all new to me. How long do you guys plan on being out there for? Do you guys bring extra fuel or just run your tanks out and call it a day? Breaks at all for water/food or do you guys all have packs?

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Jason said he has an extra pair of size12, so there will be boots if you need them

Lost Trails opens at 9 and closes at 5, most of us will have extra gas at the trucks, but it most likely wont be needed.

We take lots of short breaks for the slow guys to catch up, so unless you are one of the slow guys, you will get lots of breaks. We do go back to the parking lot for lunch, but it doesnt hurt if you have a way to carry some water on the trails with you, But its not supposed to be a hot day, so drinks shouldnt be much of an issue.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

5 people, I say we meet at the park. When you pull in you will see the check in on your right, and you can park on either side of the road while checking in. There is usually a lunch truck, but they don't stay the full day, usually from 11-2, so I suggest bringing lunch just in case we miss them when we break for lunch.

If you happen to get there late, after you check in and head to the parking lot, there will be somebody at the lot telling you where to park. Ask them where Dan is parked, and they will direct you to the upper parking lot. It keeps us away from the 4wheeled idiots doing donuts in the parking lot, and lets us park together.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Sounds good Dan. Yeah I suggest we scrap trying to get the discount this time and just meet at the parking lot. We may end up with more than 8 but this late in the game it will be too much of a hassle.

I should be rolling in around 9. My buddy is driving and we'll be in his full size white GM truck instead of my red Dakota.

Posted by: 53fireman---------------------

I'm in if the Gordon gang is in, otherwise I'm gonna hit RAC with them... my 2 guys didn't get back to me (shocker) so I'm by myself.

Jason's coming, is that enough of the gang? I'm not sure whether Gordon's coming or not. He was going to come the last time so I assume he would like to come this time.

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Hey guys
I'm sorry I haven't chimed in earlier but been real busy here at the business and I didn't want to sway anyones decision on where to go by making it look like two rides were forming. This weekend is a tuff choice for me as there are folks in this group I'd like to see and ride with and also some buddies from RAC that I haven't ridden with in a while getting together for a ride out there Sat. Since I'm looking to make a two day ride out of the weekend I wish one group was riding Sunday but as luck would have it that's not the case.

I'll be staying at the holiday Inn in Frackville and riding both Sat & Sun out there if anyone would like to join us.

Hope you guys have a great ride! Dan thanks for the invite and I hope I can take you up on it in the future.

Andrew your welcome to join us but you might have a really good time going to Lost trails as Dan is a great guy to ride with and knows the place like the back of his hand. Up to you but as always ready to ride 10am Burma rd.

Gordon

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Too bad you can't make it Gordon. I wish I was closer to RAC so I could get down there and ride. Sounds like a great place but with my once a year excursions to PA to ride I just can't see the $100 to ride once. Have a good time!

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Well if you make a two day trip out of it or better yet 3 since their office is only open M-F 8-5 it cheaper then anything else around and offers 100's of miles of some of the toughest and most challenging terrain I've ever seen. You really would enjoy it as well as th guys we ride with. Talk to Jason about it when you see him maybe he can convince you or we can work out some way to get you in for the day.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

RAC is a great place, I have had the pass in past years, but times are tough right now, and even though its much smaller, I need to stick with things more local like Lost trails. Has anything else been said about if RAC will be open next year? I did hear rumors early this year that it would be thier last. hopefully they were just rumors.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Dave, call me if you get a chance today.

Posted by: Trigger1911---------------------

Trigger and Jason will be there!!

Posted by: Trigger1911---------------------

1979 gray ford F100 with a bright green magnetic sign obn the door with a Blue DRZ400 cant miss it. Otherwise just follow my big mouth and it will bring you right to us! My number is 484-239-6187 to call me.

Posted by: CRFGuy---------------------

Rac closing? First I'm hearing this but can't tell you if its just rummor or not. Who did you hear that from?

Posted by: simmeth---------------------

Ok ok ok... dumb question.. this is located at the Inn at Pocono Manner? Does someone have an address so I can map it out? If its the area im thinking it is, its roughly 2 hours to get there and am strongly considering coming out...

What time do you guys plan to ride until? I may have to cut it short as I have family coming up and can't be out too late....

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

It is not actually at the Inn, it is on property owned by the inn. They do have guided ATV rides at the Inn which are run by lost Trails, but are at a different location from the park.

I am not positive on the exact address, but if you search for...

98 Sullivan Trail
Pocono Summit, PA
18346

it will put you right near the entrance to the park. I'm sure most of us will be there till 4-5, but some people leaving early isnt a problem.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Is anybody else coming who hasnt chimed in yet so we have an idea of who to look for? I will be there in a blue Chevy pickup with a Paragon Sticker in the back window, and 2 blue bikes in the back(neither of which is a Yamaha).

I will try and find the thread where I read that, it was either on thumpertalk or advrider saying they were considering this to be the last year for selling permits. I read it early in the season, so thought if it were true, word would have spread among those who ride there by now. Hopefully it was just a rumor.

Posted by: simmeth---------------------

Ok... I am probably going to go.. I have family coming up tonight so as long as I get to sleep early enough I should be able to make it there for 9... not guaranteed, I will post either later tonight or in the morning if its definite... its a 2h 20m drive for me. Will I be able to borrow those boots Jason? All i'll have is gloves and helmet... no other requirements right? I'll have a tannish ford ranger with a YZ250 on it if i make it...

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Helmet and goggles are the only requirements, but other gear is always highly recommended. I will bring along an extra pair of boots if I can find them also in case jason forgets, but they are size 13 so they may be a little big.

Posted by: simmeth---------------------

Check your PMs scooter

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

See you all at 9!

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Thanks for a great ride today guys, its always good to see old friends, as well as some new faces with Simmeth and Fireman. I'll get some pics, and some video of you guys trying to get up that hill toward the end of the ride probably tomorrow afternoon. I just wish I was further back in the pack so i could have seen Dave go swiming. Maybe next time.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Yeah that was a great ride and would be a great place for a group ride. They have some beautiful single track and plenty of trails to keep you occupied. We rode 27 miles and only rode half the trails.

It was nice seeing everyone again and I'm looking forward to seeing them again through Dan's video of the hile climbs

Posted by: flyingfuzzball---------------------

man im disappointed i couldnt make it out. we had a family bbq to go to though. that and i just started tearing my bike down. new air filter and throttle cable and i will be good to go next time!

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Most likely "Next time" won't be until the spring. But I am at Lost Trails every weekend, and there is a group at RAC almost every weekend if you have a permit.

If you dont have a permit for RAC, I believe you fall into the group though.... "Riders between the age of 12 and 18 must have proof of attending a safety class certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and must be accompanied by a Permitted adult to ride on Reading Anthracite Company property."

Posted by: 53fireman---------------------

I had a good ride... of course I made it up "the hill" when no one was looking, haha, then got camera shy. Thanks for the guided tour Dan.

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Havent heard anything from trigger yet, I was wondering how well he is moving around after a 3 year break from riding the trails

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Mike did pretty good considering he hasn't ridden for 3 years. I think everyone did good. It was real fun ride.

My body is protesting today, actually yesterday too, and Saturday...I was hurting before i rode! It sucks getting old.

Posted by: JasonJ---------------------

Great ride, good fun, It was nice to see old and new buds. The park was a nice place to ride. Fireman, I saw you make both hills and the top one twice! I think the park was a great place to help get guys back in shape. Hope to see you guys around the trails. Sorry about the boots, I did not get to read the board after you posted. Glad you got to come out and get some riding in.

Posted by: Trigger1911---------------------

Ok, so i ain't dead! After a 3 year layoff I have to say i don't feel too bad. i am not sore but I do feel stiff and towards mid-day I did get some arm pump that bothered me and a peg bruise on my lower leg.(just got new boots too off Craigslist!) I got my 'eyes back' pretty quick, maybe a 1/2 hour into the ride or so. For the second ride I just could'nt get my eyes for the trail. always seemed to be just a split second out of time with the bike and I attribute that to fatigue. I did hit my head pretty good and rung my ears towards the end of the day and had a headache for the last 3 days so something happened there. It was great to be back out there. Jason, Dave and Dan it was great to see all of you again. Simmeth, Steve, fireman, it was nice to meet and ride with you. Lets do it again!

Posted by: simmeth---------------------

Hey Guys. Had a great time, sorry to cut out early. Wish I coulda stuck it out for the hill climbs later in the day.... next time. Got a bunch of work that I need to do on my bike anyway. Thanks for letting me use the boots, scooter... also thanks guys for the shin guards, air, letting me use the ramps and everything else. Also, don't feel bad guys, even that short ride got me sore for the next two days... not terribly, but enough that i felt it in my lower back and shoulders. Also I got arm pump a little bit out there... probably because I haven't been riding as much as i'd like to. Anyway... can't wait to do it again, was a lot of fun.

Shhhh don't say that, its more fun letting dave believe he was sore because he is getting old.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

I am sore because I'm getting old. The fact that simmeth is sore just means he's getting old too...and he's a young guy!

Posted by: Trigger1911---------------------

Scooter, Did you get any pics downloaded from the lost trails ride?

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Yeah, I want pictures...and video!!!

Posted by: scooter1130---------------------

Sorry, been busy, I will try to get them up this weekend.

Posted by: 53fireman---------------------
