just got a used crf 150f....dont know a whole lot about this bike...ive been wrenching on all my other bikes for years just need a little basic info....

first off what kind of oil...is there an oil filter...if so wheres it at...tires what brand...would a wider rear tire be an upgrade...if so how wide can i go....performance wise it has a fmf race pipe..thats way to loud...other than that its stock...so im guessing next step is an air filter and a rejet

im 5'6 140 lbs...not going to be racing...just trail riding messing around doing wheelies..not catching any big air.. ive spend more time on two wheels than on four..mainly road bikes....just bought it so dont take my harley off road when the urge comes up...

Oil - motorcycle specific oil. You know go buy a manual for the bike to help you out.

Tires, you have 2 tires on the bike. Look at the sizes. There are no upgraded sizes you can buy.

Since you dont know if anything more than a pipe has been done to the bike, I would suggest to inspect the bike before ordering any parts for it. If the pipe is to loud, see if there is a quiet core insert available for it. FMF does have a website you can look at.

Hopefully you keep the bike on 2 wheels since it does not have 4. Have fun!

A Factory Honda Service Manual would be a great first purchase. Full of great information on how to properly maintain your bike and make any repairs.

Since you claim to be an experienced wrench it should be pretty obvious if the bike has a filter or not. Any signs of one? No? Guess what.

If the pipe is too loud make that your first step then worry about an air filter and rejet which won't do much anyway. You have a bombproof little trail bike the best way to keep it that way is maintain it and don't do anything too stupid like try and jump a large gap since that's not what it's designed for. We have a hot rod XR80 in the trailer for fun and it's a hoot but it has limitations and we recognize them.

thanks for the info guys...i didnt see an oil filter thats why i asked...my 76 kz750 has one but you wouldnt know by looking around..but im sure everybody knows that....a manual is a for sure first purchase..i just got the bike thursday todays saturday...as far as the pipe goes it doesnt bother me..so much its the neighbors..the harley is 5 times as loud...but im not riding that around the property...they only hear it for a few seconds as i go by

thanks rich rohrich...ill check them out....

update i took the bike to an official track last weekend...had a blast...the bike could use a suspension upgrade especially on the front...and some new tires...the power is good but could handle a little more..

Posted by: IndyMX---------------------

CRF150F isn't really a track bike..

Posted by: joesporty---------------------

yeah but you should have seen me go..haha...the track isnt to serious..just in my buddys back yard...more of an official track than anything i was on before...such as trails and around my yard...i know its a "play" bike...i just play rough.....

Posted by: IndyMX---------------------

Careful how rough you play on that thing, do more than it was intended and you may find out why it's a trail bike and not a mx bike.

Posted by: joesporty---------------------

like shooting a fork spring thru the top of the forks?? because that was one of my worries..
