Pretty much as stated in title. Can you restore the old rubber parts on these old bikes? It would save me a lot of time, money, and headaches if I could find a way to rejuvinate the parts I already have. So i was hoping for some kind of chemical that you can put on old rubber that would condition it.

Thanks

Ive heard that if your rubber isn't at the point were it's cracking but just stiff you can soak them in carb cleaner for a while to soften them up. then wipe down with armorall for that new look. ive done it to small parts and it seems to work pretty well but i havent tried it on anything like airbox snorkels yet.

I have wiped rubber parts with lacquer thinner and it softens and makes the surface look new again

I had the same problem and I used plasti-dip. I brushed it on. It sealed the cracks and really improved the looks.

Anything you do will not make it like new. You can soften it with chemicals, but it may swell or turn into putty and will just dry out quicker then when it was new. If it's a gasket, it will leak. If it's a grommet you may get away with it.

What type of part is it?

When I work on old bikes and the air box snorkels are hard as a brick I soak them in hot water and they soften up like new. It makes them easy to work with and install.

A heat gun does a good job of softening the rubbers aswell.
