Extra Steel Plate in XR Clutches?

Got this from Jay Peters, who said it came from Summers' mechanic. Supposedly works for either XR4s or the XR650.
Add an extra steel plate at the bottom of the stack to improve oiling and inhibit heating and related clutch loss. Anyone hear of or try this?

I'd call SRC and see if you can talk to Cory (Scott's mechanic). I'd get the straight scoop before trying it.
It does sound familiar though.
