Michigan Trailfest II - October 13 and 14

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

The planning has started for Trailfest II. We will be camping in the same place - Moorestown (west of Higgins and Houghton Lakes). I will provide directions in a future post. We will be riding a different trail and the plan will include two days of fun. Hopefully more people can attend both days.
Please let me know if you have suggestions on how to improve the Trailfest.
Mark your calendars for the second weekend in October and let me know if you have any questions.

Mike Jr.

P.S. How does this sound?????? Trailfest III in the U.P.!!!

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

Trailfest in the UP. Yaaaaaaa! Dems some good trail up dare! Will that be this year or next year? :scream:

I'll be grilling big 'ol burgers for after the Saturday ride at 'fest II. :D

Fred "too short" T

Posted by: Jeff Allen---------------------

Directions who needs direction:confused: I'll be there rain or shine

Posted by: rickshaw---------------------

Sounds like a cheeseburger in paradise!

If Fred T's goin, so am I.

Should I bring a wetsuit for the "crick" ?

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

NOW JEFFREY,

YOU KNOW YOU NEED DIRECTIONS... OR A LEADER DOG

HOPE YOU'RE THERE...

LOOKING FORWARD TO IT...

GRAMPA MAURER

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

The third trailfest is being planned for next June. I have a friend from Marquette (Ken C.) who has volunteered to be our trail guide.
I had almost forgot about Jeff's late arrival at the first event. He definitely needed a leader dog on that night.

Ya, and a new gas can because he forgot his and a bunk in my camper so he didn't have to put his tent up at 1:00 AM! Looks like Jeff is our new whippin' boy. Digger may breath a little easier!

Hope Big Jim Rye gets his Honeydew list done this time so he can come out and play! :D

Posted by: Jeff Allen---------------------

It wasn't 1:00 AM I thought it was closer to midnight

Actually wasn't "I" the only one to see the sign in that thick pea soup fog we had that night Even though I only saw it because I had stop to find out where the heck I was :D

Posted by: Miltonyz---------------------

You guys should have one on Drummond Island. That would satisfy your urge to trailride for a while

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Unfortunately, it will also satisfy your burning need to bend rims, flatten tires and destroy wheels and cases....

I've never seen so many rocks !!!!

The Old Man

Posted by: jrccc20967---------------------

Look out Fred Big Jim is ready to ride. I hope that all is going well for everyone. As far as the Island I enjoyed the mild head injury that I got there last time. There is nothing like looking over the edge of Marble Head.I am looking forward to seeing everyone Uncle Denny dropped off the tape from Jack Pine looked like alot of fun.

Posted by: 70 marlin---------------------

that weekend would be a good birthday present for me I have spudric's clyinder shipped off to mr gorr, hopfull it will be back by then?

Posted by: MWEISSEN---------------------

You'll have to get Badgerman to plan the swimming event again!

Jeff, this time call me for GPS coordinates to get you closer to the campground the first time around!

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

The trail we will be riding at Trailfest II will cross a river and swimming is available.
However, in October a wet suit (not riding shorts) will be required.
I will be sending an email to all Trailfest I participants. I want to remind them of the upcoming event and provide a list of riding buddies.

Posted by: team-green32---------------------

sonds like fun ill have to tell 70 marlin thats all he gets for his b-day and some other words like "can i come too" lol

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

TG32- a trip to the MI Trailfest II would be a perfect birthday present for your dad. I know that Fred T and Walkman would apreciate having more members of the Cabbage Patch (aka Kawie riders) to join the group.

Hey Jim, when your done with the Jack Pine tape, I'd like to take a look.

Mike Jr.

Posted by: Fly'nBrian---------------------

Mike
I'll be there. I did a lot of scouting of trails up there the past 2 weeks. About 350 miles worth. I found a loop that matches or betters the loop east of 7 mile. I did a 33 mile loop of it and did not ride it all.

Only 25 minutes from LMC

Brian

Posted by: jrccc20967---------------------

Mike Uncle D. has the tape at his house now.I think that he might bring it to you this weekend.I am looking forward to Trailfest ll.Is anyone going to Ranch Rudolf on the 9th for the enduro? Keep me posted on the ride and if I need to bring anything.I look forward to seeing everyone

Posted by: MWEISSEN---------------------

Enduro September 9? Where can I find more info?

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Mark, the enduro on 9/9 is in Traverse City. The contact for the race is Scott Cadwell and his number is 231-779-1212. In the past the start of the race has been at Ranch Rudolph campground (south east of Traverse City). I would call Scott for more details.
Jim, I am glad you are making plans for Trailfest II. We missed you last time. If you guys are bringing the tape, I will try to bring a tv/vcr and we can watch the Jack Pine video.

SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT THE TRAILFEST. I just responded to an email from a rider in Petoskey and also invited a rider from St. Johns. It would be great if we could have more riders in Moorestown than last time. We will be scouting some trail this weekend for the ride in October.

Posted by: MWEISSEN---------------------

Thanks for the info on the RR Enduro. I realized after I posted it was on the D-14 site! D'oh! Badgerman also reinforced this!

Looks like a great weekend to check out trail. I'll be on the Kalkaska South loop on Saturday late morning.

I'll definately pass on the word on Trailfest II. YOu did an excellent job at organizing the last ride.

How about a flyer to hang up at some shops?

With my luck I don't know if I should bring my new GPS out onto the trail anymore  I don't want to loose this one!

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Mark, Great idea. I will work on a flyer and attach it to an email to send to the Trailfest veterans. It will probably be after the holiday weekend.

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Hey Jeff, I will make sure you do not get lost on the trail. You may want to keep the GPS in the car.....JUST TO BE SAFE.

We had a Lansing Motorcycle Club meeting this weekend. They are very happy that we are using their clubgrounds again in October. In fact the next club meeting will be in the morning on the 14th.

Posted by: buzz man---------------------

Hey sounds like something I would like to check out. I am going to be up in the UP riding in at my cabin in Newberry the week before and might stop and ride the fest on my way home . Any further imfo would be greatly appr.(time exact meeting location). I hope a old 45 plus rider can keep up? I 'll try not to hold anybody up on my yz426f. Thanks for any imfo!!

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Buzz man, we try to be on the trail by 9:00. However, this could change depending on arrival times and the weather. rick shaw is great at predicting the weather.
I can assure you that at 45, you will not be the oldest rider in our group. The youngest at our last ride was 16. However, he gained the nickname "Digger" due to the number of crashes. I hope you can join us!!!!

Posted by: MWEISSEN---------------------

Buzzman, you'll be in good company age-wise! I'll probably be doing the clean-up crew duties on my WR400, and you're more than welcome to join me.

Hopefully this time I won't end up with bad leg cramps due to overheating like last time.

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Mark, Are you boys coming to the Trailfest?
I have a couple of nephews who have graduated from minibikes and they live near Moorestown. I went riding with them last weekend and I did not have to wait for them too long at the road crossings. I will wait to invite them to see if your boys are coming and see if Digger's bike is back together.

Posted by: rickshaw---------------------

Mark, I was extrememly disapointed with your post attempting to assume my sweep riding position on the Trailfest:confused:

As one of the more mature riders, I felt it was my obligation to sweep ride for those who wanted to ride like Badgerman or find their lost youth like Digger!

Looking forward to another great ride in October.

Happy pumpkin chasin' until then:

Ooops!!! I certainly didn't want you to think you were sweep-riding with me!! I certainly saw where you were at - right behind Badgerman! That new pumpkin sure went well. I've got a Katoom 400 on my next-bike shopping list when I can sell my WR.

Just a hint - Badgerman will be able to join the "senior citizen" class by the time this ride rolls around

Mike, I'm going to try to get my boys to go along. My oldest (16), we won't have to wait for - he usually is only a couple clicks behind Badgerman when we ride with him. My 13 year old is a little more "unreliable", as he likes riding, but not as much as me. One deciding factor for him - were your nephews going to ride on the trail or would they be happier doing the trails around the campground?

Posted by: Fly'nBrian---------------------

Thanks guys for volunteering to ride sweep, Whew I woun't feel so lonely back there. I still don't know how I tend to end up in the front end of the pack (maybe its the short cuts). I can't wait for the ride and fellowship that we shared last time.

Brian

Posted by: BadgerMan---------------------

Uh-oh, the CAT is outa the bag………….four decades of fast living! Oh well, hopefully longevity will bring wisdom. If not, I at least hope I retain the ability to bounce and/or heal quickly!

I am trying very hard to keep the entire weekend open despite offers to go fishing and bird hunting. I don’t do much riding this time of year since Michigan has a severe over-population of large salmonoids and small game that must be dealt with.

I ran into some nice fellars on trail last weekend and I invited them to join us. Craig is planning to go and there are a couple other individuals I plan to invite. It should be a good time.

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

And I still can not keep up with him.......

We have our sweep crew, our weatherman (rick shaw) and we have our leader (Badgerman). The details are coming together. I am looking forward to it!!!

Mark, the two nephews will ride on the clubgrounds only when they can find no one to champerone a trail ride. They prefer the ORV trails.

Posted by: WALKMAN---------------------

mike, i am vvvvvery disappointed that you forgot to mention the king spode this time i am leaving all bikes home! with my luck this year, i could regain that title even if i was suddenly transformed into mike lafferty riding a factory katoom:scream: so if i run gas maybe someone else will get the honors

Posted by: rickshaw---------------------

Hey Brian, I'm not volunteering to sweep ride but that's were I ended up on the last swelterfest ride:think

And besides, the only time I saw you was at the crossroads and gas stops!!!

May be the oldest guys should start first??? If that's true maybe I should start at 8:30 to give me an extra half hour's head start:confused:

Badgerman, you don't look a day over 39!!! Welcome to the dark side.

Any other sweep volunteers???

Posted by: BadgerMan---------------------

Swelterfest? LMAO! Let's hope this next one doesn't become "trail-frost 2001"!

Incidentally, I am not 40 yet! I still have a few weeks left to be virile, vigorous, and potent!

BTW, I thought I already joined the dark side when I bought that blue bike.

Posted by: Fly'nBrian---------------------

Rick, yer welcome to take the short cuts with me. I got to get out in front to take spode pics. Hmmmm, if we take a left we'll catch them at the whoops, if we take a right we'll beat them to the sand hill. Oh Jeff we need your GPS we're lost eeerrr turned around.:D

Brian

Posted by: MWEISSEN---------------------

Badgerman,
At 39:
Virile

Vigorous

At 40:
Viagra!!!

Mike, how old are your nephews. Badger, is Ian going along?

Posted by: BadgerMan---------------------

Mark,

Maybe you could front me a hit, I would like to give it a try! Luckily, they just eliminated the deductable on our prescription coverage at work! What timing eh?

I am not sure yet if Ian is going or not. He's not leaving his room until he gets his HOMEWORK DONE! LOL!

TF

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Hey Walkman, we do have a King Spode trophy. At trailfest I you left before I could present it to you. During your most recent trip to Moorestown your luck had not chnaged and I did not feel right giving you the trophy at that time.
We will have to have the trophy presentation at the beginning of Trail Fest II and begin taking nominations for the new winner.

Oh oh! I better not take a spin in my tennis shoes and shorts then! Or I better not even think about testing Dennis's bike either...last time I jinxed it. :scream: I believe I win the Senior Citizen Rider award so all you old guys will have to exceed 46 years old to ride the super senior class with me. I can keep badgerman in sight at all the gas stops. :D Alan Randt eats Bagels with peanut butter on them and he's real fast so I know what I'm having for breakfast!

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

As I recall the nominations for King Spode were Fred T for his unprotected ride (at least he wore a helmet), Brandon (aka Digger) for his many falls - one in front of the camera, but no one could beat Walkman - he brought two bikes to the ride and never got off the clubgrounds. He thinks he solved the problem by buying a new bike, BUT.......

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

:D

Posted by: Jeff Allen---------------------

I'll duct tape the GPS to the handle bars

Posted by: WALKMAN---------------------

i'm starting to really enjoy this misery, after spending hours making a almost factory looking wiring harness, following directions very close and hooking up the lighting system, I HAVE NO LIGHTS:scream: !!!! it seems that i have no power coming from the stator that i had PROFESSIONALLY installed, that also means the bike will not perform as intended due to the new electronic garbage all over the engine:scream: :scream: . big jim is suggesting that i build model cars, but due to the many hazards involved in that, i'm considering basket weaving in my own 4x4 padded cell, errr i mean room. bye

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Walkman...

As an old (60 in March) Electronic Warfare Technician who cut his teeth on Matchless, Norton, AJS, BSA and Triumph motorcycles, I can highly recommend Lucas ignition and lighting devices...

At least you knew that when it quit (and it always did), you could go to the nearest barbed wire fence, steal a foot or two and re-wind the stator and usually get it going again...

Hope you feel better now, W

Blessings on your search for Light...

The Old Man,

Mike Sr.

Posted by: Jeff Allen---------------------

Mike Sr. STEAL a piece of barbed wire. Shame on you

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

JEFFREY,

YES, OF COURSE.... I MEANT BORROW... I ALWAYS TOOK IT BACK...

SEE YOU THE 13-14 OF OCT?

CIRCUIT RIDER

Posted by: Layton---------------------

Hey Guys,

Just which sections are you planning on riding? A couple of us are going somewhere that weekend. We are thinking of going to MN but depending on the weather we could attend your event.

How whooped out is that area? Last summer I rode in the area around the Big O and Evert and could not beleive just how bad the whoops had gotten.

Any extra info that you could post would be welcome.

Thanks

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Layton, the plan is to ride part of the Cross State Connector (North Missaukee Trail) and parts of the Higgins Lake loop. I have not ridden the trail recently. However, we are going to do what we can to avoid as many whoops as possible.
It would be nice if you could join us next month.

Posted by: BadgerMan---------------------

Whoops in Michigan? I can't imagine where.

Riding whooped out trails is good for you. It builds character!

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Badgerman, you are so funny. I tried to send you an email, but it came back undeliverable. Please send me an email or PM with the correct email address.

Posted by: MADisher---------------------

Hola...

I'm trying to get a feel for the geographical location of this here event so'ins I can figure out if we can make it.

Can anyone post a zipcode ? So I can plot a course via mapquest ?

-MD

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Matt,

This zip code will get you within 30 minutes of the spot....49651 - Lake City. The actual location is 7 miles east of Lake City and 10 miles north of M55.
I will provide more detailed directions in a couple of weeks.
Last time we only had one guy get lost, but he has a GPS now and we are hoping his arrival time is earlier than last time.

Posted by: MADisher---------------------

Gak, that's an 8 hour drive

Can a 10 year old on PW's keep up there or should we leave the little ones home ? He hangs pretty well with us normally. It all depends on how deep the ruts are

Let me see what we can work out.

Also what does someone from Ohio need with regards to stickers, etc, etc.

F/S
Marlin - you may be able to "bum" a hook up if you get there early and situate your camper near fatherandson's camper, but he would have to verify that because it's his campsite on the club grounds© Send him a e-mail© I've "staked" my claim for a hook up spot for my RV through frequenting the clubgrounds to help with events and trail maintainence but mostly it's rustic camping with juice and water available©

FedT- Ya I can relate, or would like to be able to relate©¥owning a spot on grounds¤ Its not much of a camper© just a little pop up ¥one light & a furance¤¤ I have lots of extension cords© 200 ft© or so© normally it would'nt matter that much, but one of the boys is recovering from mono, he got in august© I'm going to try to set up the camper to run off a battery© it is supose to be able to? but I've never used it© owned it since 1986 duh© so keep me in touch

Note: sorry mod© about the double post, just needed to get this thread back where it belonged

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

70 marlin...

Been there done that...

Worst six months of junior's life was the summer he had mono...

You can plug in to the side of our trailer...

Bring cords, we usually run one out for the community coffee pot, also..

See ya,

The Old Man

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

I sent an email to the participants in the first Trailfest and it included a typo. Our next trail ride will be in October (not November).

Summer of 1980 - no riding, no baseball, no football........major bummer!!!!
Thanks for reminding me..DAD.

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Marlin, I sure hope you and the kids "get permission" to join. At Trailfest I we called this "greasing the skids".

Trailfest II is only three weeks away. We have had a lot of new interest in this event. I hope to see some new faces on October 13 (or 12). If anyone needs directions, please let me know.

Does anyone else hear the sounds of bells??????????
It must be Jeff Allen home from his trip to Dirt Week 2001. I sure hope you can make it Jeff. I want to hear the story.

Posted by: 70 marlin---------------------

evev if jr© can't make it, I'll be there© looks like momma gave her permisson, all he has to do is a little back school work© please post better direction ! so I'll see ya there© what day does every body show on ?

Have not seen you on the boards, where did you go?

Posted by: ssuperbike---------------------

I am up for it! Will this be a Mccc ride or just a DRN ride? I don't want to be a bad guy but the YZ is still a little loud with my "quiet" (ripoff) exaust. I can get a few guys to come along all reliable good guys. Can't wait! -----Mike

Hey Jeff, we need an explanation on the MacGyver nickname. Or is this a campfire discussion???
Mike Jr.

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Posted by: Jeff Allen---------------------

That Honda automatictrail, is that the one that had the pull cord starter?? If so I may take that for a spin. Although that bonneville sure was sweet looking!

I'll save it for the camp fire Jr. I can't tell all my new storys before I get there

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

DEAR JEFF,

THE ONLY THING YOU HAVE TO REMEMBER IS TO MAKE SURE YOU'RE IN NEUTRAL BEFORE YOU PULL THE ROPE, OR YOU'LL BE IN THE CAMPFIRE...

AND THE BONNEVILLE IS KICK START... NONE OF THAT SISSY STUFF...

SEE YA THERE...

MIKE SR

Posted by: triplephatmx---------------------

I can't wait!! Someone mentioned the GPS and I was wondering if anybody has coordiantes I can punch in the GPS to pinpoint where we're at?! Thanks - Hope to see you all there!!

Posted by: MWEISSEN---------------------

Ah, another GPS guy! I had the coordinates for the middle of the campground in my GPS, but they're gone for some reason. I looked on my Garmin Mapsource CD, and this is within 3 tenths of a mile of the campground:

44.48 N
85.08W

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

You guys are too high tech for me. I travel by land marks (turn right at the house on the hill....turn left at the second stop sign.......).
triplephatmx, welcome to the group! We have a wide range of riders and we have great time telling stories of our riding events (or reporting on another's embarassing moments).
FYI. I will be inviting my 12 and 14 year old nephews to join us on this ride. They have been riding for a number of years and both have updated their bikes (bigger and faster). Unfortunately, they fell into the cabbage patch = Kawasakis. Fred and Walkman should be happy.

G. P. S. = Go Pavment Stops

This means go to the end of pavement and turn left.

Am right?????

I also discovered in Wolverine as we were sweep riding that if I feed Mike (fatherandson) steak for dinner and eggs and sausage for breakfast he will pick my bike up off my leg so I can get up...just in case anyone needs a little help out on the trail that weekend!
:scream:

Posted by: ssuperbike---------------------

I will be their if I get my radiator back in time! It has a hole and a funny twist! Off to Myler's it goes. -----Mike

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

GOOD ONE !!!!!

GO 'TIL THE PAVEMENT STOPS WORKS PERFECTLY IN THIS CASE

NORTH ON SEVEN MILE TIL THE PAVEMENT ENDS AND TURL LEFT...WEST 1/2 MILE TO LACK PINE LODGE...

WAS THERE YESTERDAY ...

THE OLD MAN

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Fred is an excellent cook. Go figure...the guy owns a restaurant. I would have helped him even if he had not fed me, but there were two times in that section that help was needed (remember the mud??).

supebike mike, I hope you can make it to the trailride. Did you realize it is the same weekend as the enduro in Indiana?????

We will do a "roll call" next week so we know how many to expect.

Posted by: Hiller---------------------

This may be a dumb question......Is this a guy's only weekend? My wife may be interested in riding also, however, I certainly wouldn't want to be the only one to bring a girl! ! ! !
What time does the ride start on Saturday & Sunday?
Mike

Posted by: ssuperbike---------------------

I just found out about the enduro in Indiana. It will be a money thing. I am definitly going to the Rose City, Bent Wheels enduro. If I am poor, trailriding is a bit cheeper. I was cheated out of a trophy by one place last weekend, they were neat too! I need a new piece of plastic, if I survive! I am still undecided. I have my radiator sent out, muffler went back to FMF and my head light has to go back to Acerbis (fell apart). Hmmmm, maybe the wife will sponser me! -------Mike

It was supposed to be Superbike. Can I fix that?

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

MIke Hiller, at our last trail ride we had a couple of ladies, but they were spectators. In fact DerHnter brought his entire family. It was a hoot to see his daughters "race" around the field/campground.
I would like these trail rides to be "family friendly". The group was well behaved last time (not many spent the night). This event we are inviting some younger riders. We are planning a 40-50 mile ride each day. However, my dad drives the "chase" truck with food and gas. He is also the chief camera man. If somebody only wants to go for a 25 mile ride that can be arranged.
If anyone wants to follow my dad, go for a short trail ride and help with the pcitures, that would be great too!
I guess what I am trying to say is "EVERYONE IS WELCOME!!!!"

Posted by: Fly'nBrian---------------------

Ok guys and gals I'll start the offical roll call roster.

Derhntr AKA Fly'nBrian arrival Sat early AM comming solo this trip.
Kids have sports related stuff on Sat and wife has church stuff on sunday.

so the Offical Roll call stands at 1

Brian

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

When responding to the roll call please let us know what time you plan to arrive. If possible, it would be nice if the Saturday arrivals could be at the clubgrounds by 9:00 and we could be on the trail by 10:00 (depending on the weather - right Rick Shaw???).
Mike Sr. and Mike Jr. (fatherandson) will be at the clubgrounds on Friday. The early arrivals may get a short ride in on Friday (again depending on the weather).
Our count is at three and growing!!!

will you e-mail it to me so I know how many burgers and buns to bring for "Trailfeast II" I got a monster grill grate and thought we could grill them over coals in Mike Sr's fire pit. Thanks...I'm getting excited! Hope my knee is feeling better by Saturday.

I plan on bringing the "Shag Wagon and Cabbage Patch Bike" Friday afternoon.

Posted by: triplephatmx---------------------

Myself and 2 others are coming for sure, maybe one more! We will likely arrive early Sat AM. We are looking forward to meeting everyone!!!! Brrrraaaaaappp!!!

Posted by: rickshaw---------------------

Gents, I plan on getting to camp by 9:00am. Plan on riding Saturday only. Early predictions are for the frost to be gone by the 10:00 start time, pumpkin sweep:confused:

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

I was beginning to feel outnumbered by the cabbage patch kids. I am glad the pumpkin patch is growing. Gotta say it...KKAAATTTOOOOMMM Rules!!!

Posted by: MWEISSEN---------------------

Just one (me) from the "Motoweissen" family. I'll be arriving Saturday morning, and am planning only for Saturday. Maybe my oldest son also, who can't make up his mind.....the "sixteen syndrome", you know. :D

Mike, what time are you planning to start riding?

Posted by: 70 marlin---------------------

I should be in some time a round noon on friday. I'll bring a big bag of charcoal to throw in that fire pit if you'd like, I'll have it any way.

Posted by: ssuperbike---------------------

I will be there if my radiator gets back in time! I can't spend alot of dough on the race this weekend. I will hit Rose city though, as we have a cabin there! I will post when I know for sure. ----Mike

Posted by: ssuperbike---------------------

MR .MOTOWEISSEN! Like the DOORS song right? -----Mike

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

I plan to be on the trail by 10:00AM each morning. This is weather permitting.

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Add 5 more to the list under "related to fatherandson"....two cousins, one uncle, and two LMC club members. The total so far is 16 definite and three maybes (superbike, weissen jr, and the 4th of triplephatmx).
The weather forecast is looking good...rain on Wednesday and Thursday...
sun on Friday and Saturday....Sunday?????
Looking forward to seeing everyone in their riding gear on Saturday AM.

Posted by: Fly'nBrian---------------------

Fred will you have a open bunk in your RV? I'll have cold "BLUE" if ya do.
I have a job in Ohio and will not get home untill late Friday nite. I can tent it if your filled up

Brian

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

I think I can fit you in somewhere. If Jeff Allen uses a bunk you guys might have to go buddy class on the top bunk, but it's pretty big. We'll work out something.
Fred

Posted by: rickshaw---------------------

wow, you guys are very liberal, a threesome:confused:

does the lmc endorse this in their charter????

Posted by: Fly'nBrian---------------------

Thanks Fred ole buddy! Watch it Rick The DRZ has been known to roost folks,:D

Brian

Posted by: Loctite---------------------

Hello Fred - Throw a couple more burger's on the grill as Badgerman and I will be over Sat. morning. Brian, add a second DRZ to roost the pumpkins. I am all healed up from the National and ready to ride. Thanks, Craig

Posted by: rickshaw---------------------

looks like the rain will hold off for the ride. traction will be excellent. let the roost fest begin, and Brian, I got a brand new S-12 with your name on it

pumpkin sweep

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Do you have to ride a slow four stroke to be included in the roost fest or can my rip-n-snort 300 exc participate???? If so, I will change rear tire...
more spin = more roost!!!!!
Oops...badgerman is coming...forget the slow comment...
How about HEAVY four stroke???

pumpkin preride

Posted by: Fly'nBrian---------------------

Hmmmm......pumpkin roast eeerrr roost, lets see F&S is fast to get roosted by all but Badgerman and too fast to roost us meer mortals. The DRZ's will roost the 4-smoke eeerrr stroke pumpkins. Now the kaw's will get roosted by everybody. I guess only the blue buzzbombs will be clean after the roostfest.

Unless Brian and fred take the shortcuts (which I know them all) Right F&S sr.

Brian

PS every one better bring their hip boots its about to get deep here and around the campfire

Not to worry. I am planning to take it easy due to the fact that I am now…………..well…………….old. I have also been having trouble with my neck and right shoulder (a short story that does not involve dirt bikes). I spent last weekend stoned silly on Flexerils the doctor gave me. I have a few left if anyone is interested after the ride (Mark)! Besides, my little blue bike doesn’t roost much anyway.

Posted by: rickshaw---------------------

Badgerman, I need all of those Flexeril's to help sides - (lmao)

I think FlynBrian needs to bring a body suit!!!

triplephatmx, are getting any of this???

Posted by: Fly'nBrian---------------------

Must be the PUMPKIN talk is going to get "Really Deep", I hope that I don't forget the glass slippers. I hear them DRZ's can turn in to Pumpkins if they stay out to late.

Now how does that go.... Peter, Peter Pumpkin eater..... HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Brian

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

all that trail crap that the winds of October have blown over them away and get it out of my way so I don't hit anything and bruise my Super Senior Class Body!

Once again I think I will qualify for the Super Senoir Class unless the "Old Man Maurer" rides too. Hey you young whips talk about roostin' and I'm just happy to make it to the end of the trail at days end....he he he! Don't Roost the cook or you'll find yourself with "roost" seasoning on your burger.

Oh, BTW I do have a almost new S-12 that "officially" throws roost if anyone happens to be slow enough to be behind me.

See ya all Fri nite or Sat AM, I'm rrrrrready!

Posted by: jrccc20967---------------------

I am hope to make it up to LMC in time for Saterday ride.It look's like I will be the only one from around this area.Uncle Denny is still sick. You all can go ripping around but I was told by 2 smart former enduro guys to treat it like a trail ride:D . shoot I for got this is a trail ride so lets have fun.

Posted by: triplephatmx---------------------

Sorry Cryin', er, I mean FLY'N Brian, but the ol' KaTooM roost shall get very deep indeed this weekend. Afterall, it is October and Pumpkins Rule!! If the the 400 of Rick and myself isn't enough for ya', my partner in crime "Iceman" will be happy to introduce you to the earth moving capabilites of his mighty 520 E/XC! So just sit back on that banana of yours and follow the leaders!!

OOOOHHHH Yeah!! Ima hear it now!! You got my back Rick?!?!

And since I have not met anyone (Fly'n Brian included) I am of course partaking in the friendly banter with the utmost sarcasm......except the part about the....Ahhh, nevermind I meant every smack talkin' word - LOL!!!!!:silly:

Posted by: Jeff Allen---------------------

Count my head in there F&S, for Saturday only though so Fly'brian you can have Fred all to your self
The bikes back together with just a few dents and scratches on her but she'll make it. All I need to do is just find a way to make a 125'er throw some roost

Posted by: Hiller---------------------

Got confirmation last night that myself and 2 friends will be joining the ride for sure. My wife may ride also, if there are some slower riders for her to ride with. (TTR 125L)

I will be contributing to the pumpkin patch (forcasting a pumpkin sweep) and my friends will be kicking....errrr....riding for team blueberry! ! ! !

We'll be arriving ~9:00AM Sat, for a Sat only ride.

Posted by: WALKMAN---------------------

just to let ya'll know it's bow season and GREEN is the color of choice, save all that orange for next month and watch out we may just sneak up on you! right fred

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

WEAR YOUR COLORS PROUDLY!!!!

I am looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting the new guys. We will have fun rain or shine. The Saturday only riders should definitely plan to stick around for Dinner by Fred. It will allow us all time to tell stories and feed our faces.

Time to back the truck and head north.

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

THAT WAS FROM MY SON WHO SOLD ME A PINK AND PURPLE MOTORCYCLE...

IT'S THAT MTM EXC 300 (THE MARY TYLER MOORE MODEL) THAT NOBODY CAUGHT THE LAST TIME I POSTED...

I'LL BE THE SAINT NICK LOOK ALIKE ALL DRESSED IN RED...

I'M HERE AND IT'S WONDERFUL, GREAT TRACTION...

(SURE HOPE THE RAIN STOPS ON SCHEDULE TONITE)

SEE YA'ALL,

MIKE SR

Posted by: BadgerMan---------------------

MTM (Moto ‘Til Monday) beats KTM (Kick ‘Til Monday)! Actually, I used to ride a pink and purple KTM 250EXC just like your 300. I only had to “kick ‘til Monday” once, when the ignition went bad. I had it replaced with a new lower ignition unit. The cost……………..$125.00! And everybody thinks KTM parts are expensive. Seeya tomorrow morning.

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Yeah, Jr replaced the lower unit in this one too...

we used to have to unload it at the top of the hill there by the LMC clubgrounds... just to start it...

Mike Sr

Posted by: Fly'nBrian---------------------

I hear tell that the reason that the pumpkins roost so much and go so fast is cause there is a yellow bike waiting to pass. hehehehe!!

I should be there 8:30ish

Brian

Posted by: jrccc20967---------------------

I just want everyone know that I sure missed the ride (again). I was on my way up Late Friday night and the Bronco died. I tried everything but ended up getting a tow back home. I hope to see some of you at Rose City.Maybe even a one day trip some where. I sure wish that I was sitting around the camp fire instead of this computer. Wish all well. Big Jim

Posted by: Fly'nBrian---------------------

Hey we have returned! First of thanks to all that showed up for the fall spodefest. Five of us stayed an rode on sunday, FredT Father&Son,70marlin and his boy and myself.

The cook award.... FredT
Most improved rider award.....Rickshaw
Fastest pumpkin rider.... Father&Son (2nd award)
Fastest blueberryrider....Badgerman (2nd award)
Fastest banana....Loctite (2nd award)
Fastest Cabbagepatch rider...FredT
Loudest thumper....Mwiessen

Most roost eaten...Fly'nBrian ( from having to pass all the Green Machines, twice)
Oldest rider...Larry
Lost rider award...70 Marlin and spuderick

Other important stuff learned this weekend.

Don't grab burgers off of FredT serving plate.
The only way a Pumpkin can roost a DRZ is when the DRZ is passing or stalled in a corner. Heavy rain at 80mph HURTS, Badgerman is insanly fast.

Now feel free to add any and all awards plus important stuff to the post.

Thanks to all who attended. Special thanks to the Lansing Motorcycle club for the use of the club grounds for our event.

Brian.

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

It was a blast meeting all those riders. This was really cool to gather 18 trail riders of such good skill levels and go for a nice 75 mile ride. Seems everyone got faster after those Snicker bars got handed out...he...he! I got a real cool picture of the 18 man start so if anyone wants a copy e-mail me so I have your address and I will e-mail it to you. Lansing Motorcycle Club Grounds is a great place to start this thing, I know we will be doing it again next year. (Right Mike!?) Hope ya all can come again. I think the big burgers will be a tradition from now on, they were very popular so you can count on it!:D

We had a nice little 25 mile ride Sunday after it stopped raining - it was a blast! I didn't want to quit!

Sorry about the Bronco DNF Big Jim - that sucks! Time to break down and get some new wheels?????

Posted by: MWEISSEN---------------------

Thanks to Father&Son, Fly'n'Brian and Fred T for putting together another great ride! I had a great time. Next time I hope to have a Pumpkin Diesel 400 - if not I'll put my quieter pipe back on!

Badgerman and I got to my cabin in Grayling about 7, and were sitting around talking when we heard a whoosh and a crash. I looked out the picture window, only to see nothing but pine tree. We went outside and right along the cabin was laying a huge pine blown over by the wind. Two feet closer and that side of the cabin would've been history!!

We got a decent partridge hunt in today - kicked up a bunch of birds, got two. Badgerman's probably enjoying a partridge dinner about now!

Hope to see you all in the spring!

Posted by: BadgerMan---------------------

Grouse/Woodcock stirfry! Almost as good as those mutant burgers Fred was servin' up yesterday. Thanks for the burgers Fred and thanks for the birds Mark.

Man, that tree was a scary thing. Luckily, I had packed several pair of clean BVD's!

Highlights:

Chasin' Wile E. Coyote through the woods. It's too bad the rest of youz guys didn't see him.

Chasin' Flyin' Brian through the woods. It's too bad the rest of youz guys didn't see him.

Seein' Mark bring down those birds-on-the-wing, (he's much handier with a scattergun than I am).

The food.

The fellowship.

Thanks Mike, I'll bring cookies again next time!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot about the "Badgerman Go fast Cookies," hey come to think of it I went faster on Sunday.....send me a dozen through the mail!

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

I am glad everyone had a great time (me too)!!!!! It was nice to see some familiar faces and to add some new riders to our group. I will update the roster and email a list of riding buddies to all participants.

We will do it again next year! In fact I am thinking of having a Trailfest Reunion in January or February. Leave the bikes at home, but we will have dinner and a chance to share pictures/memories of our 2001 trailfests.

Big Jim I know what it is like to have car troubles. I did not get home until 10:00 pm on Sunday. Grandpa Larry's truck (ol' blue) had brake problems and we worked on it for four hours.

Mike Jr.

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Hi guys,

It was good to see you all...

Sorry I wasn't able to be more help, my SO is recovering nicely and looks forward to meeting you.

I did, however take the old Turnip (Bonneville) out to the Lucas Road bridge... a little cold for swimmin' today, but the color is still good...

Again, looking forward to seeing you again...

Trailfest III in da UP June 22, 2001?

Just a suggestion...

The old Man.... Mike Sr.

Posted by: rickshaw---------------------

What a fantastic ride!!!! Hats off to MikeJr, FredT, and Stallin' Brian for organizing the event.

My apologies for the unfortunate weather at the end of the ride, gotta get that damn Doppler fixed.

Really enjoyed meeting all of the new guys, even those who didn't ride KTM's

Looking forward to the pictures to tell the real story.

See you all at the next get together.

RAS

Posted by: team-green32---------------------

I would have to give some advice........dont hit water holes at speed unless you know how DEEP they are.

but, man can my bike swim......................

Posted by: MWEISSEN---------------------

I put a ride together twice a year of guys at work and other friends. The next one is November 3 at Little "O". If you're interested, we'd like to have you come along. Start time will be 11am. PS: I ride sweep on this one too!! PSS: Since most of the other guys at work are MotoXheads, they can't handle more than 20 minutes at a time, and the loop will probably be it for the ride. Of course there's a bunch more trail around there!

Posted by: triplephatmx---------------------

Hey all!! Iceman and I would like to thank all of those who worked so hard to organize the ride and make every aspect of the event so much fun. It was even more enjoyable than everyone made it out to be! We couldn't think of a better way to spend a cold, rainy, fall day than to ride the woods of northern MI with such a great group of fellow enthusiasts. We had a blast and you can count on us to be back....if for nothing else, but those darn burgers - MMMMmmmmmm!!! Thanks a million!!

'Til next time...

Posted by: 70 marlin---------------------

spudrick and my self had a blast! was truely kind of you to let a couple slow pokes like use ride with you fast guy's. lansing trail riders facilities are second to none! big thanks to F/S for some fine trails! fred t for the bigest burgers I've ever had. jeff a. for all the yellow soda's after the ride:>)) and most of all larry. for being the best sweeper, with out him showing us all the short cuts and bypass's they still be waiting for us. spudric's wrist is OK just bent bad Doc said to just take it easy for a couple weeks and wear a brace for a few weeks.
thanks again
spudrick & 70 marlin

oww ya GPS strikes again! we head back a bit early on sat. and the old hand held unit turn's off and we loss the rout back. thank goodness for a boy scout compass & map. the fast guy, told us to just follow the track back to the camp, well between the rain & four wheeler's there was'nt much tracks left after a couple miles of trails and fire roads.

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

and "Spudrick" at Trailfest II. It is so cool to know the people behind the user-names. We had a nice time eating Chili and chatting at the campfire on Friday night after getting the KDX headlight to work. (Reminded me of "Blazing Saddles though! :scream: ) Making new friends is fun and that's what these Trailfests are all about. I've made many new friends this summer thanks to DRN! I've met a few real great riding partners that I can hook up with and ride any time I want to, we've had so much fun! I went riding 17 times this summer since that first post I responded to in March from WALKMAN - one ride for every year I've been away from riding -spooky coincidence!!!!! Can't wait until 2002!

Posted by: BadgerMan---------------------

Seventeen years? Holy cow Fred, what did you do, quit riding when you were ten!?

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Marlin, I am glad to hear that TG 32's wrist will be OK. I agree with Fred that it is great to meet new riding buddies and to put a face behind the internet names.
Based on the baseball hat that he wore proudly on Saturday, Badgerman must be from Wisconsin. Maybe we should call him "cheese head".

Posted by: BadgerMan---------------------

Actually, I have lived my entire life in Muskegon and Kent counties. I have been a rabid U of M fan since I was about eight years old.

As is usually the case, there is a humorous campfire story behind the BadgerMan moniker.

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

Nope, I quit riding when I was 28 in 1982 and I'm almost 47 now. My last bike was a 1981 KDX 175. Sold it in 1983 and thats all she wrote until this past March 26 when I wheeled out my brand spankin' new 2000 KDX 220! I have not stopped smiling since!

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

One weak attempt at giving Badgerman a hard time. I guess I will have to wait until November 3rd to do it again - GO GREEN!!!!
We will need to get him around a campfire to hear the story in 2002.

Fred,

No offense intended with regard to the color of your Kwacker, but green is the color of envy!

The only combination I find to be more offensive is when you combine the green with gold! Yuk!

Go Blue

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Sorry Fred...wrong shade of green. I was referring to Michigan State Green and White!!!! Big showdown - November 3rd!!!

Posted by: Hiller---------------------

Roy, Joe and myself had a great time also. Thanks to all who organized and thanks to Fred for the burgers. We'll know next time to bring more supplies (read: brown sodas).
Brian, thanks for the biggest smile award. It's fun chasing DRZ's around the woods (and passing when they stall). I'd like to say I was chasing around a YZ250F, however, I would actually have to see it to say I am chasing it. Badgerman, you are too fast:scream:

You can definately count us in for the next Trailfest.

Posted by: BadgerMan---------------------

Hiller,

I’m really not that fast. I was riding way over my head in attempt to get away from a great big MSU fan on a KTM who is still mad about last year’s Michigan/Michigan State game!

Actually, somebody on a yellow bike suggested above that I was insane. That may be the more correct reference.

It was great to have y’all join us. Hopefully you can make the next one too. And not to worry, we always bring extra “brown sodas” in case someone forgets their’s.

Don’t forget Mark’s ride on the 3rd of November.

TF

Posted by: MWEISSEN---------------------

Darn! Looks like I picked the wrong day for a ride! Unless I bring a TV along!

I can't make the 3rd ride. I have guards that week end.

Brian

Where is Little "O"?

Mike

Posted by: BadgerMan---------------------

http://www.dnr.state.mi.us/pdfs/trails/littlema.pdf

Bottom left corner of the map. Unfortunately, you can only see the eastern half of the trail. The start is 3 or 4 miles north of downtown Baldwin on 32nd street just west of M37.

Posted by: rickshaw---------------------

hey fredt, why don't you share some of that cider you been slippin' the SO:confused:

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

She got mad at me for a while and I had to really suck up from Mid August until the end of September....the weekend trips were "growing" on her. The 17 counts for 2 rides on a Sat/Sunday outing. So 4-5 weekends can rack up 10-12 rides. But, hey a ride is a ride!

Posted by: BadgerMan---------------------

Try this link.

http://albums.photopoint.com/j/Albu...&a=13891569&f=0

I have to apologize for the blurry pictures. I was packing only 100 speed film that day and as you all remember, there was not alot of light available due to the weather. It's easy to tell who the fast guys are, they're the most blurry!

I have more pics to post but it is really slow uploading at 50K.

Enjoy.

Posted by: 70 marlin---------------------

good time was had by all! team green has some good pic's to show some wheeling all he has to do is get them posted to his site.

Posted by: rickshaw---------------------

Tim, thanks for taking the time to post your pictures. Fantastic!

Loved that high speed of FreddyT workin' the grill

When are we riding again??? Anybody thinking about heading south for a weekend???

RAS

Posted by: triplephatmx---------------------

Yeah thanks for the pics! Turned out great!! I wish I could have taken some helmet cam footage and posted it. Working as a computer geek for a living I am frustrated I have no footage or pics to post - LOL!!!

Rick - we are talking about heading south around Feb and possibly sometime sooner. I have family in Kentucky and I usually head down to Daniel Boone to kill the Jonesin' during the winter months. I'll keep ya' informed!!

Posted by: Fly'nBrian---------------------

Tim, I see the DRZ was too Fast to catch jumping the log Thanks for the pic

Brian

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

It brought back some good memories. The group photo at the start is set up as the wallpaper on my computer.

"It's easy to tell who the fast guys are, they're the most blurry"!

Great depth of field on those DRZ photos even with the slow shutter speeds! LMAO

Posted by: MWEISSEN---------------------

Mike, I did the same thing with the group photo. I get to look at that every day at work!

Thanks for the pictures, Tim! Also for the cabin/tree and bird shots!

By the way, the November 3rd Little "O" ride is getting moved to November 4th. Actually, it may be both days. There's some guys at work that can't make the 3rd, and I may not be able to make the 4th. Either day, it's at 11am in the 32nd Avenue parking lot. If interested and need directions, let me know via e-mail.

Posted by: Jeff Allen---------------------

I had a great time and I just thawed out from that rainstorm on the return trip to the campgrounds. An enduro jacket is first on my Xmas list! Tim, what's frostbite look like? (and the photos look great too!)

Thanks for the chow Fred, you can cook for me anytime!!!

Posted by: 70 marlin---------------------

MWEISSEN, where you meeting and what time on sat? room for some slow pokes? the boy's would like to go riding!

Posted by: Hiller---------------------

I'm 90% sure I am going to ride Saturday. I may be bringing 2 guys, and may be bringing my wife to ride. It all depends on the weather for me. I'm not a real cold weather kind of guy for dirt biking. I'll post later in the week when I know for sure.

Posted by: michman---------------------

Howdy guys, I will be home this weekend and would like to hok up with you for a ride what are the start time and place on Sunday. Thanks Mike

Posted by: MWEISSEN---------------------

Glad to hear it guys! 70marlin, we've got room for EVERYBODY! Bring the wife, Hiller! We've got 13-plus so far - including the groups above it should be right around 20.

We'll be taking off around 11am from the Little "O" parking lot on 32nd Avenue. From US 10 going into Baldwin, go north on M-37 to 32nd Avenue. There's one of those signs on the side of the road just before you get there. Turn left on 32nd. Go to the DNR parking lot, which also has a sign, on the right hand side.

I'm going to have one of us spot some gas for the small-tank crowd (including your's truly) about half-way out.

I'll have a small propane grille to put some stuff on afterwards. I can NEVER duplicate Fred's stylin' and don't intend to. I'll bring some burgers and dogs - if anyone wants to bring something else, great!

The weather sounds real good for a late fall ride. Let's hope the recent wind storms didn't litter the trail too bad!

Posted by: 70 marlin---------------------

ya I'll need to have a can stashed for the old rm. I sure the kdx's will have no problem. my bike has one of them IMS baja tanks. I should be in earler than 11am. somwhere around 9:00am to 10am.
thanks again

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Hey did anybody misplace a windbreaker at our trail ride??

I found in the clubhouse. I know a couple of guys changed out of the wet riding gear in there.

Let me know.

Mike Jr.

P.S. Mark sounds like another big trail ride. Enjoy!!! I can not make it. I luckily came across a couple of ticket to the football game (U of M and MSU) Go GREEN!!!!

Posted by: MWEISSEN---------------------

Enjoy the game Mike! We'll miss you! BTW, we DID move the ride to Sunday, so if you change your mind you know where to find us.

Posted by: 70 marlin---------------------

,:think

Posted by: MWEISSEN---------------------

Sorry 70! I looked up all the posts and saw maybe it wasn't clear we had changed the ride to Sunday right after my initial post. I'm only going to make it on Sunday. Hope you can change your schedule!

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

Mark
I'll be there and no disrespect but it will be nice to have a "day off" from the grill. I'l eat anything you cook! If you need some goodies let me know and I'll rustle up something. Need a few more Mutant burgers???? I'll try to get there early. What a busy weekend...Lansing for a Football game on Sat and Riding on Sunday...busy...busy...busy. Look forward to seeing some of the "old" gang and meeting new ones. Will I be the super senior rider on this one??? Gotta be older than 46 & 9 months old to win the trophy!

Posted by: Jeff Allen---------------------

I'm heading out the door, see ya all in a bit

Posted by: 70 marlin---------------------

even though we were the only one's on it? really there was a parking lot full of trucks. was a real nice loop, just what spudric # 1 & 2 needed. all though I missed the turn back to the parking area at mile 19 or 20 and ended going in to the trail system on the other side of M37. put anther 30 miles on the old bikes, was a blast though, orv route type trail deep sand and wide open throttle! we really found out how far the RM could go on a tank 59.8 and never ran out! we made it back to the truck after a little road riding right around dusk.

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

hope to see you all again after the snow melts in April. :D

Posted by: MWEISSEN---------------------

Good to see you yesterday, Fred - and also to the other Trailfesters that made it - Badgerman and family, Jeff Allen, Craig and a whole host of Trailfest wannabes!

Fred, the pic didn't show up for me. Is it there or did you miss the URL?

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Why wait until the snow melts??? We rode last April in the snow, ice and mud. We should plan to get together at least once before the Rites of Spring ride in May.

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

Here's a bigger one. (I hope!)

Posted by: Fred T---------------------

Nice pics, Fred, thanks!

I got an idea. Come February, when everyone remembers the last year's riding experiences as being twice and fast and three times as thrilling as they were, maybe we need a "bench racing luncheon"! Like maybe someplace near Lansing, centrally located so most guys can make it easily. Maybe bring wives so they can be wowed by their men's experiences. What'cha think?

I live 40 miles from lansing, and would love to meet up. Can you fill me in on the details?

Posted by: fatherandson---------------------

Mark,

I like the idea of getting together in February. I even have a place where we can meet for free. My dad's church has a community center with tables, chairs, kitchen and lots of room to share the memories (and pit race for next year).

Asrith, I sent you a personal message. Give me a call and I'll fill you in on the details.

Mike Jr.
