Tx ride sometime soon

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Lloyd and stooges, Jeff, YZGuy, Mo... Anyone up for a ride sometime soon? My schedule is fairly normal right now, and I wanna ride! I've been practicing for marching band 19 hours a week+ (yes, even on the weekends!) and won't have to practice for the next couple of Saturdays, so I want to take advantage of a good oppurtunity! Anyone?

bumpedy bump bump...

Posted by: gibbs_6---------------------

Hey.I live about a hour and half from dallas depending on traffic. You are also the only person I seen around here the same age as me kinda makes me wonder.:think

Posted by: jeffd---------------------

I just need some advance notice, but I am ready to ride. I am almost 100% over this ^%$# sinus infection and chest congestion I have had for almost 3 weeks now so name the place and time and hopefully by then I will be completely rid of this junk and rearin' to go!

Jeff, don't feel alone I have been this way since last Thursday, Are you going to try Shady Grove this weekend

Jim

Posted by: jeffd---------------------

This weekend might not be the best as my Grandfather is very ill, and according to the doctors, doesn't have much time left. I need to go see him this weekend - he is my last remaining grandparent.

Stan I sent you a PM about this Sunday....?

Jeff
Sorry to here that, Maybe we can get the Labor day weekend Ride somewhere

Jim

Jeff, Sorry to hear about your Grandfather also, the short time we spend on this Earth, makes you realize that Life is all too short sometimes.

I also have one remaining Grandparent, and am afraid that the time is not far off.

My thoughts are with you and your Family.

Posted by: jeffd---------------------

Thank you all for you kind words. I will admit that I have been in denial through this whole ordeal to this point. I need to spend some time with him this weekend as it may very well be the last time I get to do so.

Stan, I have to go to Chicago this weekend but is anyone up for a Memorial day gathering back at Muenster? If my freakin' schedule doesn't slow down I'm going to have to sell my bike! (course then I'd have to buy a new one )

JeffD, I wish the best for you and your family. I am also down to one grandparent and unfortunately don't go see her often enough

Posted by: Stan_Flemmings---------------------

Thump, I would love nothing more than to go riding with you at a track, but my boss...well, his excuse was "I don't know where it is", "we've already got plans" and, I don't want to ride at an MX track." Go figure??? Somebody set a date, and I'll see if I can go. The rotten thing is, I can only know my schedule a week ahead. I'm free next Saturday, so maybe then?? I'll have to check in with the boss. I'm free on memorial day weekend, but, once again, will have to check with my boss. If only I could drive!!

Posted by: yarbonwick---------------------

"This one time, in band camp..." :scream:

Posted by: Danman---------------------

Funny Movie. I would love to join you guys on one of these rides. I'm only like 5 hours away. I would definately like to give munster a whirl. Please post in advance time and date. I have lots of vacation time, but little funds. I think that I might be able to swing it. Is munster east or west of Dallas? Also, I have to have power to get a decent nights sleep. I have sleep apnea( a breathing machine helps a bunch). Is there a place for power with a tent?

Posted by: okie426---------------------

Stan,

Double Bob(as in Burger King Double Cheeseburger) and I will be there just name the date. Just had a little rain today that will help with the dust of Muenster.

Okie 426

Posted by: Vannaman---------------------

Yeah, a Meunster ride sounds real good.

Posted by: taraker---------------------

Shady Grove dis weekend............

Shane is gonna be there practicing his NAC NACs:scream:

Posted by: Stan_Flemmings---------------------

It looks like I'll be hitching a ride with Slo'Mo out to Shady Grove this Saturday. Maybe another time at Muenster?

Posted by: jdrobins---------------------

See ya there

Jim

Does ANYONE live in the Houston area? I would like to head up to Dallas to go riding but it’s a long drive and I can’t drive yet... Have any of you guys ridden in Sam Houston national forest?

Lee Wilson

Posted by: DougRoost---------------------

Jeff, my thoughts are also with you and your family on the grandparent. We, too, are going through a similar thing with my wife's last remaining grandparent (but our kid's only great grandparent).

I'm up for a Muenster trip as well. Our group here in Austin (about 10 of us) was planning for an October trip there. It will be tough for us to do it sooner given work schedules and the 4 stroke Nationals at the end of September in Floresville.

LWilson250, we've never ridden Sam Houston national forest -- what's it like and are there any restrictions to be aware of?

Posted by: MTRIDER---------------------

Its 80% sand ....long very windy Singletrackish (most parts are wide enough for 4 wheelers...no hill climbs, fast twisty whooped out good time ....worth the trip....

They require spark arresters ?sp

Posted by: yzguy15---------------------

Hey fellas, it's been a while. My teachers have been killing me lately. I'm into the third week now and it seems like its been at least six. My teachers, they're sadists (sp?), well not really, but I guess that's what I get for being in these stupid Pre/AP classes. Not to mention, I have football practice everyday, twice. An hour during 4th period, then a couple hours after school.
I'm finally getting a day off of practice, this Friday, whoo hoo. We scrimmage on Thursday and the Varsity plays Friday night, therefore we get the day off.

Anyways ( I know you're wondering if this is going somewhere) Me and the old man are going to Muenster on Saturday the 1st. If anybody would like to join us, drop me a line. Hope to see some of yall out there.

Posted by: darnjr---------------------

YZGuy,
I was at Muenster two weeks ago and managed to avoid head-splitting tree limbs and gulleys from hell. Tell your pops hello for me and I might see ya'll out there.
DA

Posted by: LWilson250---------------------

Yes you do have to have a Spark Arrestor for Sam Houston. There is also a $3 parking fee for all the trailheads. It's a great place to ride and it is sandy like MTRIDER said. I am heading up there sometime during next week I think to go riding with my dad. If anyone is going to want to ride there please let me know.

Our group in Austin is just a bunch of us mid-thirties guys who've gotten back into riding again. I think I'm the only DRN'er in the group so far. One or 2 used to race MX back when. We had a mix of 2 and 4 strokes but the 2-stokers are all trading them in for blue thumpers. Most of us have wives and kids, not to mention jobs that cause us to travel, so we have to plan our trips ahead of time if we all go to anything much more than City Park or Bastrop.

I'll be there for the weekend with my spousal unit. Look for the gray Dodge pickup with the travel trailer, my sissy-boy 125 will be near.

Although. . .I won't be riding from 2:30-5:30. Gotta watch the Sooners pummel Air Force.

Posted by: TexXR---------------------

I'll be at Muenster either Sunday morning or Monday morning. Hey Yarbo, care to come ride behind me on my new blue beast? I'm Superman now. The mule has officially been retired.

Posted by: woodsguy2000---------------------

Up for a ride anytime, just let me know. As for the sand it has rained a lot so trails should be prime when rain stops. Also if we have a ride keep in mind there is 3 trailheads, so need to be sure where we should meet. I ride there regularly so any questions let me know. Keep in mind if too wet they close trails, always call ahead. 936-344-6205 ext 2. See ya Rob

Posted by: LWilson250---------------------

It has been raining here for days!!! I was going to go to Highlands MX track but I don't know if it's going to be open. Here in Cypress the rain has been coming down for 2 days and there is no end in sight. I would like to get a Sam Houston ride going.

Lee Wilson

Posted by: woodsguy2000---------------------

Trails for the most part will allow a quad, but most trails are true single track. But not handlebar tight. Mostly 2nd-3rd gear type riding.

Posted by: DougRoost---------------------

Sounds like a blast. Many of the trails around Austin are technical and handlebar tight. While fun, it's not much fun unless you can get some 2nd-3rd gear romps. Once things dry out it should be a kick, so let's stay in touch on this.

Posted by: woodsguy2000---------------------

We have had plenty of rain, w/e of 9-8 should be prime riding if anyone is available. Just be sure to check first.

Posted by: woodsguy2000---------------------

Still raining, but when it stops there awaits a fine ride, no dust, no sand, just prime trails. Still you then.

Posted by: Rockrider300---------------------

The only problem is are they going to let you ride after such a big rain. Also their will be a lot of mud .

Posted by: woodsguy2000---------------------

Forrest is open,9-14-01, any doubts call 936-344-6205ext2

Posted by: LWilson250---------------------

NO!!!!! I won’t be able to go guys!! I am having some problems with my bike burning oil real bad; I think it’s time for a new top end. I am going to stick a 280cc kit in there so it’s going to be a while before I’m back on my bike again. If anyone wants to give me a few hundred dollars that will help me a lot. lol. Hope you guys have fun.

Lee Wilson

Posted by: Rockrider300---------------------

So it is opening up today. To bad that I do not have time to get out there.

Posted by: woodsguy2000---------------------

9-22 or 9-23? Anybody going? Sam Houston Forest

Posted by: DougRoost---------------------

Hope you guys got some riding in. Last Monday my wife called me at work saying she smelled a very strong gasoine smell in the garage. We soon homed in on my KLX with a big puddle of gas on the floor. Quickly determined the petcock was off so I rushed home. Sure enough, it has about a 1.5" crack in the rear of the tank.

So now I'm looking for either Plasti-Aid or a plastic welding kit. Thankfully it's not in too stressful a spot since a new tank is $462! I also am removing that inline one-way valve in the vent tube since I suspect the reason so many Yamaha and Kawi tanks do this is it doesn't allow air OUT when it gets hot in the summertime (my bike had been sitting for at least 2 weeks).

Posted by: Treestomper---------------------

I bet that hurts. If you do not want to take the one way thing off just leave the cap a little lose when it is sitting.
