I would like to adjust my preload, but I don't have a tool to do so. I think I need a spanner wrench, but I don't have enough money to buy one. Is there anything else I can use? Thanks

A hammer and a soft punch to losen the lock ring and then hand turn the tensioing ring..

With the locknut loose and the bike on a stand, you can grab the spring and turn it to turn the adjuster. Spray with WD-40 first to lube the threads.
