Crarb problems/smoke

The gas prices from yesterday's attacks caused me to fire up my XR200 and ride to work. I choked it to start it, but it wouldn't let me take the choke off. If I did, it would stall. Also, it smoked the whole time (30 minutes) like a two stroke. What is my problem?
