Start getting ready for Dirt Week '02! It will be even bigger and better (yes that is hard to imagine but it will be). Go to work sick so you can save your time off, pick up change in the parking lot of the 7-11, whatever it takes do it because you will not be sorry if you attend. Too far to drive? Give me a break! We had people travel 36 hours each way and from other countries (OK Canada). There were thing for everyone to do and watch no matter what their skill or riding preference so long as it involved dirt.

BE THERE! (I know I will be).

Posted by: KC_BigDog_51---------------------

Patman was parked behind us most of the week with his head buried in the cases of his KTM trying to get it running. Look how pumped he is for next year and he hardly even got to ride while there.

I've got my calender blocked out!!

See ya all there!

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

You guys are killing me! I can’t seem to go anywhere with out getting DirtWeek rubbed in my face It sounds like it was a blast, especially the parts about broken bikes and such

I’ll put it on my calendar for next year but it was on my calendar for this year

Posted by: Patman---------------------

Don't use pencil this time!:D

Posted by: Yamamoto---------------------

I can Plan it 1 year in advance, details? where and when.

P.S. Patman I have a red ink pen!!!!

Posted by: Patman---------------------

I'd say expect "details" within the next 180 days.

Posted by: justql---------------------

It was one of the funnest times I've ever had. Even the trip there and home was fun. Getting to ride in events that I normally wouldn't do was great. I would recommend it for anyone of any riding level or riding type.

Posted by: LWilson250---------------------

If I have a nice new bike and a truck and it's near Houston next year count me in. I hope it's going to be in either Texas or Oklahoma. From what everyone says it sounds like a blast! I hope I can make it.

Maybe in Atlanta? Then I could walk out my door and join right in...:think

Posted by: Treestomper---------------------

I have heard it was going to be around Oklahoma next time. So Pat how do I get out of school for that long with out them calling my parents?:scream:

Posted by: KawieKX125---------------------

I just took a pek on mapquest and cooperland is about 20 hours away. Things are not looking good for me.. But, if Okie can schedule it BEFORE school then I and alot more could join you guys. I also need to find transportation. Although I will have a liscense, my parents would never let me travel that far by myself. I am already harassing my parents to let me go.

I feel you pain RM guy. I was getting everything ready Tuesday evening, to leave Wed morning. My sons football game was cancelled due to rain, and re-scheduled for Sat. I made the decision not to go. Haven't missed one of his game yet in 6 years, and didn't want to start. To make matters worse, I was on vacation all week. Not the best vacation I've every had seating around wondering how much fun everyone was having!

it's still in the 100+ temperature range with high humidity here before school starts. it would probably be very uncomfortable for the northern guys.

October is the target date.

wonder no more, we had a great time.:D

Posted by: KC_BigDog_51---------------------

I second that MX547!!!

Posted by: justql---------------------

Probably the best time I've ever had. Heck even teh trip home was fun, except the broken spring. I didn't get any peanuts either.

Posted by: BSWIFT---------------------

You should talk to Mike Z. he brought his kids. They did there homework each day and burned umpteen gallons of fuel. I would say they got a excellent lesson in friendship, sportsmanship, kindness, and reponsiblility. As for their school work, they probably did better on it than if they were sitting in a clean school room. Plan now because this event is awsome.

Posted by: Patman---------------------

Little Patman (989) will be there for sure. Going to try to do the remote homework thing like Mike Z if not he'll just have to miss a few days of school. I know it will be tough to convince him

Posted by: LongTime---------------------

A little further West?

Posted by: Patman---------------------

Cross your fingers LT.

Posted by: KC_BigDog_51---------------------

Do you have a mini Montessa? Would be sweet to see a little father and son trials action!

Posted by: Patman---------------------

They make kid sized trial bikes (not Montesa though ) and to be honest at 9 he's got more raw talent than I'll ever have. Gota' upgrade the dirt bike this year though, I may let him mess with my 315 as he CAN touch the ground (as long as mom isn't home) :D Heck "the kid" had a good time on it and he's 13! I think if more kids learned to ride them we'd have a larger number of "top gun" riders in the U.S.

Posted by: KC_BigDog_51---------------------

I agree, if you can balance that thing you have half the battle won on how to ride a dirt bike.

It gets 100 degrees with +90% humidity all the time in Chicago. The only time we're uncomfortable is when the snow on the ground is higher than your gas cap and you CAN'T ride. Word has it it once got above 75F in Canada so I KNOW C-Dave and the rest of the Canuckleheads can handle it

Posted by: Patman---------------------

I think C-Dave would show up even if it was 130F as long as we promised him we had Pop-Tarts!

Posted by: zio---------------------

I second LT's motion. I'll bring the beer! (Pabst Blue Ribbon Light was on sale the other day!:D )

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

One thing is for sure... DW will never be on a coast !
Sorry we can't have it in your backyard

Oklahoma is it (assuming we can do the deal with Cooperland since it changed ownership).

Right dab in the middle of the country. If you arent willing to drive, you obviously don't know what you've been missing. :D

Posted by: JMD---------------------

October in Oklahoma is going to be fantastic. I can't believe it's going to be so close to me here in Texas. I'm definitely going to be there. Gotta start getting in shape, so I'll look my best in a tutu.

Posted by: fmfkx125372---------------------

Ok, I've been hearing all about this, and I want to go! Where is cooperland? I tried to find it on Map Quest with no luck. If I plan it now, I can definately go!

Posted by: LongTime---------------------

1332 miles to Oklahoma City. . . . Divided by 65 = . . . Divided by 70= . . . Hmmmm, divided by 75 = 17.76 . . . such a patriotic number. Now if Elk and I share a ride, flashin' the badge and beggin' for reciprocity . . . hmmmm. . . maybe see what Yarbo can do . . . one long day and we're there . . . then one day to recover, and ready to ride. . . . .

Posted by: OKKX'er---------------------

Here's a slightly biased vote for Cooperland (70 miles away) just rode there
Sunday. They have a really nice MX track and one of the best kid's tracks
you'll ever see. I just got a computer in Aug. and already was committed to
a Taylor lake trip before I found the awesome DRN. I would have to recommend Rampart Range over Taylor Lake (infinite rocks). I though maybe
DW would always be in IL, but Cooperland is almost too good to be true!
Our local shop rents Cooperland once a year for customer appreciation and
that day rocks !

Posted by: OKKX'er---------------------

Cooperland is 8 miles east of I-35 at the mile marker 174 in OK, then 5 south
and 1.5 east.

Posted by: justql---------------------

Cooperland is just west of Stillwater OK. There is also a city owned park just a few miles from Cooperland, it's called the 500. It has more trails than Cooperland and a nasty SX track. Cooperland has a great track and about a 7 mile loop in the woods. I do not remmeber a GP track there but the woods trails blow away LTM trails. (Although the loop that was put together for the hare scramble was good)
Stillwater is a college town. Home of OSU. With lots of resturaunts, hotels etc. Definetly a place to consider.

I think I'll start working on my kitchen pass.:D

Be in this picture next year or...??
http://www.dirtrider.net/forums3/sh...&threadid=24917

Posted by: KC_BigDog_51---------------------

I am there!! Next year I am getting the full # of days allowed instead of just 3 like I had this year.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

Too bad I couldn't make it this year cuz Cooperland is too far

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Humm...

TTRGuy, FarmerJohn, Speedy and Billy, 36 hours non-stop from SoCal in an extended cap Tacoma. Too far? Ask them if they'd do it again.

Posted by: WoodsRider---------------------

it's not the distance, but the location. Although Cooperland is closer to Houston so I could send Mrs. Woods down to visit her family while I ride.

Posted by: RM_guy---------------------

So you’re going to try and use shame and guilt on me, are ya? Who knows what will happen in a year.

Posted by: biglou---------------------

RMG-I'll tell you what I told Papakeith: "You just make it to KC and we'll work something out from here!" Seriously, If you East Coasters wanna swing through KC, there are plenty of us here to set you up for a good night's rest and a good meal and then we'll caravan to Cooperland from here. Maybe even get in a little riding at some of KC's local spots if any of you have the time! Just lemme know. I've got a big enough house with a finished, EMPTY basement for plenty o' sleeping bags, cots etc...

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Hey, whatever it takes
If you get there and back home and can say you wouldn't do it again, I'll do laps on a z50 dressed in a monkey suit.

Posted by: BSWIFT---------------------

Don't let the distance turn you away. The best experiense you will ever have is waiting for you. If a big Dirtweek event was happening in Washington state or Maine, I would find some way of getting there. Dirtweek is better than Mardi Gras and the Super Bowl combined. If you have read some of the posts in the Dirtweek Forum you'll begin to understand how special the members really are. I've got a place for people to stay or do repairs 45 minutes from Cooperland so start saving your milk money and plan on making the trip.

Posted by: justql---------------------

Ditto what bswift said.

Posted by: Patman---------------------

Get some friends and tag team it! I did it by myself since TwinSpar had another commitment come up. 1,090 miles in just under 16 hours each way, my KTM puked a crank seal so it never left the pits but I still had a blast! If you can not have a great time at Dirt Week you need to sell your bike and take up bridge on Wednesday nights at the old folks home (tell TwinSpar I said "Hi").

DW'02 I will be there! I have reminded my wife 4 times in three days that it's Oklahoma, and I'm going. The last time was 5:00 AM today, her response was" damn right you are, I'm not putting up with another two weeks of whining from you because you didn't"

Posted by: JuliusPleaser---------------------

I've already bought a bigger piggy bank. Next year, I'll drag some compadres along with--I don't care if I have to beg, whine, plead, cajole, or kidnap. I'm gettin a bike with some HP, too.

I'm bringing spare handlebars and a subframe (in case KC Big Dog wants to ride it).

Posted by: smb_racing---------------------

942 miles!
there's no way I'm driving that all by my lonesome. The 6.5 hours from here to Casey was killin' me, but you know I wouldn't trade a minute of it and I'd do it all over again

Don't bother with the handle bars and subframe. I have learned my lesson and I am perfectly content with my bike and I am never siting on another persons bike again, let alone ride it!!!

Posted by: Dash Riprock---------------------

Hell let's do it this October.

I am game!!! Stilwater is only about 5 hours from the house. Lets go!!

Has there been any consideration for a Spring and Fall session? Do a west/central and east/central location. Split the sponsorship between the two. I have not participated in DW yet (new member) but from all the threads it seems too good to do once a year. Thoughts?

That's a great idea! I would do two DWs a year.

KC-Big, C'mon, man. We hafta have somebody to bag on.

The answer would be YUP, YUP, YUP!!

I can see work, family, or money being a factor, but "too far"??
:think No such thing. Last year we drove aprox. 6,000 miles round trip, this year was 36+ hours, 2,000+ miles straight through and I would go to the ends of the earth to be there next year.

There is plenty of time to plan, save, and scheme for DW02 so get on it people!!

Posted by: CAL---------------------

I think I'm going to open up a savings account just for Dirtweek '02 and start contributing now. That way I'll be ready for what ever I need to do to get there. Something serious is going to have to happen for me to miss any Dirtweek.

Thats why we keep the "High Lord Gomer" around for!!

Posted by: justql---------------------

Talked to Chuck Cooper, Guys brother. Chuck said that Guy has just cut some new virgin trails at Cooperland. He said they are great. I sure hope it works out.

Posted by: WaltCMoto---------------------

After getting back home from DW01, I asked miniRider127 if he thought next year 14 hours would be to long of a drive. He didn't even hesitate in saying lets go, that was soooooo much fun I hope he dosnt mind missing 3 days of school

Lets see, go to school (boring) or take off on a road trip to go dirt biking for 3 days?

The answer is in the question and if you are a member to DRN, you already know the answer.
