CRF450 Valve Adjustment

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

The owners manual suggests adjusting the valves and decompression system after the wear in period (15) hours. I looked in the manual and it looks very tricky. Are the dealer techs sent to school for this procedure.. it looks like "playing with fire" if you ask me. It also seems a little noisy..

When do you guys recommend adjusting the valves? Oil changes? Where to get filters?

My personal feeling is that if you believe there is something out of tolerance...fix it. I will be doing one because of possible "tight" clearances, as soon as my parts arrive. I'm hearing both "noisy" valves, and lots of "caughing and stalling", at an idle with no noise. The adjustment procedure is actually pretty straight forward for a competent mechanic with the proper tools. I was able to locate a couple filters in stock at a local dealer, then I ordered a supply to keep on hand. Both the filter and plugs are "new" part #'s.
