Reno trip again next year?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Farmer John---------------------

Hopefully your missing a quality WSRA event.

Posted by: Strick---------------------

Farmer, you what really stinks I HAVE to race that Dayton race now. Bring on the WSRA Rock Scrambles

Posted by: Brianc---------------------

Early in the thread, the subject of porta potties was mentioned, but no definite answer / decision was made. Will there be porta potties available? I know they aren't free, so I am offering to chip in some $$$ to procure them. If you inquire of your local porta potty providers, they will tell you how many to get for the # of people and the # of days of the event and then we can make a decision based upon the cost. I think it would be the enviromentally friendly thing to do, plus I know the girls would really appreciate it.:think

Posted by: Strick---------------------

I am really torn on the Porta-potty issue. If I get one brought out there, and BLM sees it, I don't know what their reaction would be. I have been told that to hold any event takes insurance and a fee to BLM, along with approval of the trails being ridden(which means submitting a map). The BLM then rides sections of the outlined course on quads to give their O.K., or to tell you what sections they want you to take out. I am going to do a little more investigation, but I really don't want to have to go through the red tape it takes to put on a race. This is just a ride!

I will let you know what I find out.

Posted by: Brianc---------------------

If there is a parking area nearby or a lightly travelled road, maybe we could put them in an inconspicious space nearby. they don't need to be in the middle of the action, even if they were one or two miles away, that would be more convenient than driving into town.

Posted by: Pegasus---------------------

Strick.....
My 2 cents on the PP issue from a woman..Bag it if its a hastle or it exposes the ride in any way. Keep it simple !

Most dirtriding women are use to being "inconvienced".PP's get rank after 40+ people anyhow.. Most women I ride with carry tissue.. and since most everyone is hoteling it. well they can take care of other business there ..

Maybe its different being desert not woods.. no trees:-) Just hate to perk BLM ears..

Brianc...
Dont mean to sound ungreatful..in an ideal world its a great idea !
Just so many places being closed down..could be best to keep rides quiet as possible especially ones this size.Just food for thought...

Cant wait to ride/play !!!!

Posted by: CJ Rider---------------------

Yup, I'm with Pegasus. Keep it simple. (I always wanted to use that cute smilie!)

Posted by: Strick---------------------

It's a GO on the porta potties. I have a client that owns one of these businesses. He is donating 2 for our use. I will pass the collection plate for donations, so I can give him something. He is dropping them off at my office on Thursday, and I will tow them out there. We will circle the wagons so to speak to make them less conspicuous during the day.

Posted by: gospeedracer---------------------

Wow! That's really great Strick! I could have gone either way but now maybe this year Kiwi won't have to 4x it across a median, over the curb, and through the landscaping of the nearest mini mart to get me to a bathroom! :scream:

Posted by: Brianc---------------------

Great! My wife is much relieved
I sure other people will be too

Posted by: E-Ticket---------------------

"The Ant" is a long-time woods and trail runner. So she would be just fine without. But having a ThunderBox is always nice.

From the quality sound and "extrapolated" intelligence gleaned from everyone's emails .... is sound like a pretty cool group of people that are going on the "ride."

Strick, I'm willing to bet (and this includes myself) that none of us would complain, and would be more than willing, to throw a couple of bucks towards the ThunderBox for the ladies/kidlets.

But I also agree w/ Pegasus -- anything that would be "iffy" or draw the attention of "the man" -- should be avoided like the plague. (grin)

Just let us know what's best and "easiest for you." -- E-Ticket

Posted by: gospeedracer---------------------

Hey I just wanted to throw a suggestion TTRGuy brought up last night out there for everyone.

There is going to be quite a large group of us out there and it's get togethers like these that provide such a nice opportunity to get to know and ride with many fellow DRN members.
Last year, just like at SF01 and DW02, I always come away feeling bad that I didn't meet or ride with more people.

Everyone usually breaks up into different groups, often depending on skill level and such and takes off on their excursions for the day or at least a better part of the day.

What do you all think about (at least for one of the riding days) we keep the rides short but more of them allowing a variety of different groups to go out with each other. You know what I mean? If no particular group is out all day then that would allow me and others to go out several times with several different types of groups. Does that make sense?

Posted by: High Lord Gomer---------------------

Speedy, Speedy, Speedy ... once again, this is NOT a singles forum...

Posted by: fremontguy---------------------

Who all's riding Friday 2-15? I'm headed over the hill in the AM and was just going straight to Moonrocks for a ride. Could also hit any other near locations by Reno for a ride.

Posted by: thumbs---------------------

What do you think about riding at Honey Lake on Friday? The idea has been tossed around by a few of us but nothing has been set in stone.

Posted by: NVR FNSH---------------------

Speedy,
Will it be warm enough for you to wear your Sahara Pants? If so, then I get ride sweep

I'm planning on coming over Sat morning and meeting everybody at Moonrocks - should be there ~10AM. I'll do my best not to get food poisoning this year.....

Brian

Posted by: gospeedracer---------------------

Uhhh, not likely Brian. I'll be the one waddling around with my arms unable to rest at my sides due to the mass layers of clothing I'll have on!

Les, we'll be there Thursday around 11:00am so most likely we'll be riding Friday.

Ummm, Tony, I forgot, is Honey Lake a track? Guess I should skip back several pages......

I need to make a spreadsheet or somthing of when people are arriving, departing, where they're staying, cell phone #s........... hey, I'm in accounting, I can't help myself, spreadsheets are my life. Pathetic, I know.

Posted by: Strick---------------------

Got verbal approval to have a porta potty on BLM land. Right on!

I feel so much better now,and you will too

Speedy, I like your idea. This is going to be a LOT more organized than last year. I would really like to ride with you too, and I know that is what you were getting at:D, just dont let TTR guy read this 'til after the ride.

Brian I'll be wearing my Sahara pants, in case you're interested
See ya at the 'rocks on Saturday.

Posted by: gospeedracer---------------------

Cool!

So my plan is to try and keep up with Strick on one ride, enough to punch him in the arm as I blow by.........

ride with NVR FNSH and prove to him I don't always whine when I ride

go out on a ride with CJ and steal a test ride on that pampera

go on a nice leisurely "chick" ride with zio

get all the ladies together for a ride

then ride with and meet as many of ya'all that I can!

Posted by: 380EXCman---------------------

Honey Lake is out. I called over there the other day and they are only open for events. I begged them to just let me and a couple friends take a spin but ohhh no.... Damn Lawyers.

Me and Bluethumper will be there on Thursday at about 11:00 am and would even consider riding thursday and for sure on Friday seeing how we have to leave Sunday morning.

Hmmm. Speedy in Sahara gear Huh. I may actually have to use my camera this year. Im terrible. Went to SF01 and Reno last year and have 0 pictures to show for it. My wife is starting to think I have a family in another state. In a way she is right.. I can't wait. 1 week to go.

Any plans on where we can all get together on firday night. And what about having name tags. I can bring blank ones and a couple sharpies.

Posted by: Pegasus---------------------

So far Marshal and I will be there Firday. It would definitely be fun to hook up with who ever wants to ride !...OH YEAH !!!

Strick.. Good on you for getting the PP thang together.. glad it all worked out.. thanks !!!

GS...Ladies ride?.... Way fun !!.....

OMG ....Im sooooo excited !!

Gee, thanks for not putting me in that last group. :silly: You know, I'm not even going to introduce myself now. angryjim just blew his tranny, and with any luck he'll not have it fixed in time. He's the only one on DRN who can I.D. me.

It'll be just like in Grease 2- I'll be riding around on a frankenstein bike, with a faceshield on and a cape, and you'll all be singing:

Who's that guy? Where did he come from?
Who's that guy? The T-Birds: Please tell me someone.
Pink Ladies: I never knew anyone could be so cool.
All: Whoa oh oh Who's that guy?
He's just amazin'! From headlight to tailpipe, his burners are blazin'. Looks to me like he could really fly! Won't somebody tell me...Who's that guy?

oooh whoooo who's that guy?
oooh whoooo who's that guy?

Davey: He wears a pair of goggles like a man from outer space.
Stephanie: It really doesn't matter that I haven't seen his face.
The Scorpions: We're gonna wrap those handlebars around that neck of his. The punk is gonna get it!
All: When we find out who he is!
zio: Everybody wants you when they don't know who you are.
Pink Ladies: If you're a man of mystery, it really takes you far.
zio: Everyone around you thinks that you're a star!

Posted by: E-Ticket---------------------

well, so much for my "intelligent" comment made earlier.... (big grin)

good tune, Zio! I expect to hear it being sung from inside the PP.... (g)

Susan ("The Ant" -- BBR200) and Randy ("E-Ticket" ---- KTM 400 MXC) will be coming from Portland, OR). Planning on arriving fairly late Thursday night and staying at the PepperMill Casion "Motor-Lodge." (In the back of the casino). Cell phone: (503) 701-2784

Depending of the wear-n-tear of the road and the ride start-time, we probably like to go for a short check-out ride on Friday.

And yes, we can't wait either to go riding! It's been non-stop rainy/crappy weather and we are definately ready to go ridin' outdoors.

Cheers! - RandyB

Posted by: E-Ticket---------------------

Strick ... any other "organizer" types: a small suggestion

Throw everything you know into an email (expected possible weather, riding area specs (altitude, type of terrain), mix of expected riders, any info about Moon Rock riding area and facilities (unload area, space, any fees, etc.) and any get-together effort/plans for Friday night or Saturday morning.

Because the closer we get..... the "20 questions" aspect is only going to get way worse! (big grin). If you have a "canned" info email that you could send people - you won't have to deal with each one individually.

Just a thot. - ET

Posted by: NVR FNSH---------------------

Finally got off my a$$ and booked a room for Sat night at Motel6 Virginia Plumb - $39.99 no two night minimum.

Brian

Posted by: Strick---------------------

I really want to keep it this simple on the internet: my cell # is (775) 771-8850 call me when you get in or near Reno. I will have a central meeting spot for all of us to meet/eat that night. I will give out directions to Moon Rocks, and the parking lot where the Caravan will meet (my office bldg parking lot). We will then head out to the Moonrocks from there. Each person will have a map upon leaving the parking lot. At the moonrocks, everyone will be given instructions on the different trails, and introduced to the local 'loop leaders'.

A lot of info has been posted already, but if you want to post a series of quesions I will answer them all. To reiterate a couple of answers:
Moonrocks is about 25 miles from the Peppermill 3 of that on a very nice dirt road.
Average temperature is 51 degrees for the high
Elevation is 4200-6800'
No facilities (other than porta pottys)
Staging area large enough to hold a 300 rider desert race.
Terrain - mainly awesome sandy/soil, sandy areas, rocky areas, lots of washes and ravines, hill climbs and downhills (advanced loop).
Whoops, switchbacks, minor drop offs sand, small jumps (intermediate loop)
Fire roads, whooped roads (small), meandering single track, and minor amounts of sand (beginner loop).
Locals will also be taking people out on self made loops later on Saturday, and all day Sunday.
The terrain and soil is nearly perfect that time of year. Moisture + Sandy Loam = Traction.
Two bike storage locations(up to 100 bikes)-call me when you get to Reno.
There are grocery stores and mini-marts on the way out to Moorocks on the highway, along with fast food, sub shops, sports bars, gas stations etc.
A local bike shop, Reno Motorsports, will be offering 10% discount for all DRN members on any supplies, parts, gear, accessories, etc. they might need.

O.k. Now organize your questions and post away or PM them to me.

I'm lucky to get permission for one night. Two nights is seriously pushing it I wasn't planning on riding Monday - got to beat the Tahoe crowd back to the Bay Area - so I'll leave Sunday evening after riding/dinner.

Anja won't be coming with me. She hurt her back in October, remember she didn't ride at Elkins Flat, and it hasn't improved a whole lot since then. She was able to ride a little bit over New Year's but tweaked it again a few weeks ago. In fact, we just cancelled our Tahoe Ski Week vacation There's no way she'd be able to ski for a week.

Posted by: fremontguy---------------------

Hot damm Rick, can you make it any earlier I was gonna suggest convoy like last year, after 5am would work @ Lodi.

Posted by: High Desert XR400---------------------

Are there any riders from Oregon, in addition to E-Ticket, planning on going down for this ride?
If so what is your proposed schedule? Maybe we could caravan? I'm still working on getting it approved on the home front, but it sounds like a great time will be had by all!
How far out of Reno is the staging area and in which direction?
Thanks!!

Posted by: Strick---------------------

Reno/Sparks are twin cities(so to speak). Moon Rocks is 15 miles north of Sparks.

yo' Zio.... you're missing a valuable opportunity here...!

see... when no one's looking, you snitch someone else's nameplate, get polluted, and then basically act like a jerk.

Just be sure the someone else isn't doing the same thing with your nameplate....! (grin) - ET

Would love to ride at Reno with y'all, but my wife and I bought a house and will be moving that weekend.

I was hoping to have a front row seat for Angry Jim's and MR WR's semi-annual battle of the 200's!

LT, sorry to hear that, of course the riding isn't the only attraction in Reno.
ST500 - I do need a drinking partner.

Speedy - looks like I've got permission to be there Fri/Sat/Sun nights. I'll be with trlrdr (Scott) - staying at his parents place. We may head up early enough on Friday to do some riding Friday afternoon - won't know for sure until later next week.

Posted by: 380EXCman---------------------

Strick - What about a camp fire? It would be nice to have some heat to stand around if it cools off a little. Is it a possibility? Maybe a few of us could haul some wood in.

Posted by: Strick---------------------

Camp fires should be 100% O.K.

I will have a generator and a heater in my trailer, for warming up also. There is some wood out there. It's even pre-burned!

Posted by: ricky1---------------------

I just finished reading ALL 19 pages, this afternoon!. (every post). With tears of laughter from about page 3. Haven't ridden in about four months, but I hope to ride every day with everyone. Can't wait to meet everybody.

See you in 7 days

If everyone donates $5 to the Portapotty fund, will that cover it?

Give us an amount so you don't come up short. Any extra $$ can go towards your beer fund for all your hard work putting this together.

Posted by: Strick---------------------

Brian the going cost for 2 day of rental is $75, so about a buck a piece with so many people going. I would like to be able to give him the $75. If everyone kicks in a buck, I will gladly cover any extra.

Thanks for your concern.

Strick

AND I really think ret sr., uncle moose, Old Stroker, should cowboy up (not to mention LONG TIME!). You can't work weekends --- Can you?

I forgot that we already had a family function planned here for Saturday night. There is always next time.

We should try and get something organized for here in central Oregon once the snow melts, we have some excellent riding areas east of here. I would love to help and I think you all would like the terrain.

Hello everyone, just thought I'd check in. My computer is DOWN and I haven't been on the web for awhile. Bonehead and I (endoqwest) will be there Friday afternoon, probably in a boxvan. We're staying at the Peppermill. See you there. Strick, I'll call when we get close to Reno.

Posted by: DougM---------------------

Strick,

Why don't you post a message of a couple of places to ride on Fri. Give directions to the places. You could use freeway intersection or Peppermill (since alot of people are staying there). Also Give time and place to meet Friday night for info on Sat and Sun. This way all of us don't need to call your cell phone on Fri. For my family a beginner area with some intermediate stuff would be great.

Look forward to meeting all of you

AND you will miss a great time. This happens with every event, this one, as well as the big DRN midwest spodefest. Don't feel bad, it's just life. We even lost TNT's partcipation this year. Uhhh, sounds good to me. We missed the farewell dinner last year. Is that were it was last year? You're talking about Friday night, right?

Posted by: fremontguy---------------------

Isn't Reno famous for those all you can fit in your belly buffets? Looking forward to many of those

Posted by: The Ant---------------------

Hi Strick, Dinner at the Mexican Restaurant sounds great, put down 2 for Randy & Susan. We're also going to get down there late on Thursday, planning a short check out ride on Friday. I'm really looking forward to this, thanks!
Susan

Posted by: Strick---------------------

GSR - Same restaurant (you missed). Yes, Friday night.

Fremontguy - Our buffets are awesome here, but on Friday night they are very expensive. Lots of people complained about the price of Atlantis last year. So this year we will go to a place that will 1/2 the cost.

Posted by: 380EXCman---------------------

Mexican sounds great. Count us two Idaho guys in on it. Im getting hungry already..
I kind of know my way around moonrocks. If there are no locals available on friday I can get all of us lost. Just follow me......

Weather forcast is looking really good for the weekend.

Im sitting here at my desk trying to break my new Alpinestars in. I wish thursday would hurry up already.....

Posted by: desert_racer---------------------

Mexican is good with us. Put us down for 3. Bundy, tee and me.

Posted by: thumbs---------------------

Yesterday I was riding at a local track with my buddy Digger Dave, as luck would have it he took a bad spill (2nd lap, first time at a track) and broke his clavicle and got his 5th concussion. The ambulance took him to the hospital where I met him after loading all of our gear and bikes. Once at the hospital they asked me all kinds of question that I had no answer for. Dave is one of my best friends but I had no idea what his home address was, work address, medical history, parents phone # or where his health insurance card was.

My suggestion is this. Whenever you are out riding, like this weekend, take with you your insurance card, a photo ID, emergency contact information and a brief medical history.

I'm done being mother hen.

Happy trails,

Thumbs

Hey Thumbs,

That it is absolutely the best idea! everyone, make sure that you add the following:

-- any allergies (medication-wise)
-- hotel you're staying at

And tell your riding buddy(s) where you hide the spare key on your truck/car.
We loaded up a buddy once to get hauled to "ow-house" and it was only after he left... that we realized that he had his truck keys in his fanny pack with him. Luckily we *did* find the hidden key (one of his buddy's knew where it was) and we were able to load up his bike and bring his truck back for him.

So Thumbs is right. Prepare for the worst - hope for the best.

Bummer on your bud... give him our best. -- E-Ticket

My suggestion is this. Whenever you are out riding, like this weekend, take with you your insurance card, a photo ID, emergency contact information and a brief medical history.

Gee Tony, you sure are spending your fair share of time in hospitals with friends.

That's definitely a good idea. You and I both know it. I remember feeling like such an idiot when we were with AJ at the hospital. He told me where his insurance card was and I gave it to the nurse. She looked at me funny and said that was for his Dental insurance and wouldn't do any good unless he was interested in getting his teeth cleaned while he was there!

If anyone is injured while I'm present, it doesn't matter how prepared you are with information..... I'm still gonna riffle through your wallet! I think it's a chick thing. jk

btw, you make and excellent mamma hen.

sorry to hear about your friend. I hope he will be alright.

Posted by: thumbs---------------------

Amiee - Remember the Gorman ride when my buddy Digger Dave had a nasty getoff five minute into the ride? Same guy. This is the second time that I have spent the day at the hospital him.

I think there might be a 00' YZ125 for sale real soon.

Posted by: desert_racer---------------------

Excellent idea Thumbs. I agree. Especially in Reno due to riding in a strange area with people that you have just met. I will talk to the guys that are going to be with me so that we have that info in our fannypacks.

Posted by: Buddy---------------------

Strick
Count Firelily and Buddy in on dinner Friday night.
Will be up to ride the rocks that afternoon. Lookin for some company.

Buddy

Posted by: E-Ticket---------------------

yo' buddy...

Susan and I are planning on doing a short, easy check-out ride of Moon Rocks on Friday ....late-morning/early-afternoon. Nothing major - just run around a bit and get a feel for the area, check out temps, riding gear needed, etc.

We're staying at the PepperMill Casino Motor Lodge - getting in late Thursday night. Where are guys staying? - rb

Posted by: E-Ticket---------------------

Sharla,

You might want to bring along some extra BBR business cards and flyers.

After the "ladies" try out Susan's BBR200 - you mya be going home with some orders!

We were fielding more comments yesterday at the Indoor Arena... and they're always the same. Wife/girlfriend has KX/YZ/CR/RM 80/100 .... great suspension and size.... too damn pipey for the woods. Where did you get your BBR and how much? (grin)

Cheers! - E-Ticket

Posted by: Strick---------------------

I was already planning on placing directions on back to the Moonrocks map, to the closest hospital. I too have paid several visits to the hosptal visiting friends over the last 4 weeks. Another buddy got hurt yesterday.

How about this for an idea. Make a copy of your insurance cards. Bring that copy with you. We will put them in a stack in say, my trailer, and if someone is hurt everyone will have access to the info. All in one nice easily located area.

This way GSR can stay out of our wallets

--> I am going to try to put out pie plates at Winnemucca ranch road. This is probably the easiest part of the journey to drive past.

Keep the ideas coming. Thanks to all (i.e. GSR, Thumbs, Doug M....)

Strick

Posted by: firecracker22---------------------

Actually I might send the cards with you . . . something came up, and suddenly it's not looking good for me to go. Just plain can't afford it. I'm sorry everybody, I was really looking forward to this.

Posted by: MR.WR---------------------

Strick,

What night is the group getting together for dinner?? Friday or Saturday night??

Les aka Fremountguy and myself will be in town on Friday morning and be heading out to the "Rock" for a warm-up ride before noon.

Rick

Posted by: Brianc---------------------

Add 4 more to the dinner reservations. Me, Wife, 2 Kids.

Wife and youngest boy just got over the flu, now oldest son has it. Should be better by Thursday since it runs about 6 days and he got it last Thursday. Doctor says 'strong maybe' that he'll be better. Talk about cutting it close. It's amazing how he's following Dr.'s order to get better in time I think I'll sleep in the RV, don't want to take any chances getting sick this close to the fun

Posted by: gospeedracer---------------------

Okay, I could go back through this bazillion page post and find out for myself, but I don't wanna. It seems there will be several people either arriving on Thursday or early on Friday and are going to head out to Moonrocks to ride on Friday. Could I get a show of hands from those people?

I think I've got the following. Am I missing anyone?

TTRGuy
GSR

MR WR
Fremontguy
E-ticket
the ant
Firelily

380EXCman
Bluethumper

Strick,

Count 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids) for some FART FOOD. Mexican beans do this to me. Thank god I'll only share the outdoors with everyone. My family will LOVE me.

We will try to ride Moon Rocks on Fri afternoon.

Doug

Posted by: NVR FNSH---------------------

Speedy,
I've heard a departure time of 9AM Friday thrown out for my group. Not sure if this is really gonna happen or not. I'm pushing for 9AM so I can get in some riding on Friday afternoon. It's ~4 hour drive from here and we'll go to where we are staying first.

I know how to get to Moonrocks and could find my way around the area if necessary.

email me your cell # and I'll keep you posted.

NVR FNSH,
Yes, east of Bend about twenty five miles is a great OHV area, East Fort Rock, with decent camping facilites including vault toilets. It is snowed in right now, but should start thawing out sometime in March or April. See link below:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/centraloreg...k/efrgener.html

It is just an idea for later in the spring or early summer before the dust gets to bad. If anyone is interested we can start another post and try to get something going.

Posted by: firecracker22---------------------

OK, back in after all. See you all Friday night.

Posted by: zio---------------------

Count Me and Kelly in for Fri. night. I doubt we'll pull in town early enough for a ride, though. We'll see.

Thanks goodness, F22.... I was starting to think, "... just passed the hat to help pay for the ThunderBox.... and now we're gonna' have to pass it again to make Sharla can make it....!

Anyone else watching the weather? This is what weather.com is saying: Snow likely. Highs in the low 40s and lows in the mid 20s.
Should I buy one of those funky skis for the front wheel?:think

Pookie=George. thanks

Posted by: CSL---------------------

Hey Firedawg,
Seeing as how I've lost any and all faith in weather.com, you should check out www.rgj.com, the local Reno rag. Weather looks pretty good in their eyes (rose colored glasses?)

We are in the desert and can have radical temperature swings between night and day. Mid 20's is normal for night time. Bring a coat for night time activities. Yesterday was 56. Today is supposed to be 55. Average high 51 I have seen showers forcasted. This is not like LA, Seattle, Oregon, or the East coast. A shower is a LIGHT rain, and not a down pour. it never lasts more than an hour or so. It is not cold enought here to snow (I hope). I will also add this; my absoute favorite riding is in 2" to 3" of snow. What you can't see can't hurt you is my Philosophy when snow riding. Any way you slice it, it is going to be great. I actually hope we do get some moisture so everyone can experience REAL desert TRACTION.

Posted by: E-Ticket---------------------

Totally agree, Strick. A light "dusting" or early morning shower, say... from 5-6:30am would be just about perfect!

Since you are so punctual and thorough... could you also arrange this?

(big grin) - RandyB

I'll be thinking about ya this weekend. Make sure you post lots of pictures and ride reports.

Hope it's not too late to submit my RSVP. Recently back from Japan & I wasn't sure I was going to make it. But the planets came into alignment (read: I got off my duff) and it sounds like way too much fun to miss.

Will arrive Friday afternoon. I'm dragging along my significant otro...Amanda. So if room permits, add two for dinner.

Tony,...if it's not too late ... my wife's name is Amanda.

Looking forward to meeting everyone & hopefully stealing a few test rides on your nifty bikes!

Better safe than sorry.

Delivering the Porta-Potties Friday for your convenience

Marking beginner course tomorrow, Intermediate course already marked and has claimed it's first victim (knee and shoulder-TNT, MRI tomorrow). I don't think much of the advanced course will get marked. I will do what I can.

The advanced riders should have lots of locals to lead the way anyway!!

Come on weekend!!!

Any for those of you who said you could come and can't :

Strick

Posted by: 380EXCman---------------------

Strick - Who's marking the course tomorrow? Me and Bluethumper will be in Reno about 12:00 maybe 11:00. We are gonna get checked in and then look for some riding.

Posted by: Strick---------------------

Me & Ricky1. I will be out there probably around 10 am. I gave pretty good instructions a day or 2 ago on this thread on how to get to moonrocks. From whrere you stayed last year, back to I-80 east off on pryramid to Winnemucca RAnch road. I will have pie plates. Doug M was asking for directions. Go back a page or 2 and you will find it. I will keep checking the pits after 1:00pm. I can easily loop back from the advanced course to the pits.

Any late comers can still get rooms at Motel 6 at the Virginia Plumb location

39.95 a night
49.95 weekend rates

We leaving early Thursday am, hope to arrive around noon to 2:00
Let the fun begin

You can also try the Peppermill Casino "Motor Lodge."

Search earlier in this thread for "Motor Lodge."

Cheers! I'm out'a here!! - E-Ticket

Posted by: scandi---------------------

Count on 2 more from Sacramento. We were already headed this way when I see this is an annual gig. Looks like loads of people and lots of fun.

Look forward to meeting some new riders.

Posted by: Dirty Dave---------------------

Have we decided on a meeting location and time for Sat. morning? I have people coming Saturday morning.
Can't wait to see all returnees from last year and all the newbies for this year. Hope to see a bunch at 7:00 Friday night

Posted by: Strick---------------------

Dave, I have had discussions with some of the other riders regarding this 'meeting area' Saturday morning. I (we) have decided to give everyone maps on how to get to Moonrocks from the Peppermill. That way no one is on someone else's time schedule. I will be handing out maps at the dinner Friday, or when I meet up with each of you when we store your bikes

This post is meant for everyone to read and heed (so to speak).

Wahoooooooo!!!!!!!! I'm signing off for the day. See you people tomorrow night! If, for some bizarre reason, anyone wishes to get ahold of us on the road, my cell# is (559) 287-4069 We'll be pullling out of Santa Cruz around 10:30, with a quick stop in Santa Clara (Thanks, again, FJ) and pulling in to Reno who knows when.

Posted by: firecracker22---------------------

I'm TRYING to leave work so I can get on the road but it's not happening . . . see you guys all tomorrow night! Woo-hoo!

Cool new smilies, by the way, I had to use that one!

Posted by: Battered Sav---------------------

Wow, what a thread, took ~2hrs. to read, for a ride I have NO chance of going on
Hope you are all having heaps of fun.

Posted by: biglou---------------------

See if I care.

Seriously, you guys and gals have a great time. Everyone have a safe trip and have a safe ride(s). There had better be pictures when this is over. Just don't everybody look so dang happy in them, okay?
Have fun.

Posted by: Strick---------------------

Some of the riders are here. A couple already made a trip out to the Moonrocks already. Porta potties in the AM, along with many riders hitting the trails. I am going to try to sneak in a quick one too.

Two of the three courses are marked. Pink ribbon on the beginner loop. How appropriate for the Valentine's Day Spodefest.

I want to thank Ricky1 for all his help and support. He is one great guy!

Big Lou -- get on a plane. I'll go buy a bike for you to ride. I'm serious!!

You have to leave the bike with me when you leave though

Posted by: ktmboy---------------------

I've been following this thread from day one. I hope you all have a great time, and it deeply saddens me that I can't make it--maybe next year.

The SoCal Crew will be well represented though. You guys had better post some pretty good ride reports!

BTW, what is this thing?

Posted by: Strick---------------------

We never made 10,000 views. Oh well! The riding was great!

Posted by: Okiewan---------------------

Looking forward to the ride reports!

Want me to set up a gallery for photo's???

Posted by: Strick---------------------

That would be great Okie. I am getting a count together now, including locals. I think we had 80+. We had out of towners show up that have never even signed on to DRN, because of word or mouth. I'll bet they sign on now

I won't post a ride report. I am goint to wait to read what the rider's have to say. I think my report may be loaded with PORK

The rider's will know what that means.

DougM is now "The Tortoise"

Who wears an armour shell on his back
Carry's water in a pack
Usually rides in the back (except for "The Ant")
Slower than a speeding snail (This is not you Endoqwest)
and reads his Email
Well the Tortoise, of course.

I enjoyed meeting some of you ( there were too many to meet all). Everyone I met was real nice. The riding was fun. I hope next time you guys bring your rug rats like BrianC and Me (rhyming again). I would of ridden with the next group ride on Sunday but my leg hurt (poor baby). I intend to come up in a few weeks, I'll call Strick to see if he is free, to ride some more. No kids this time. Don't get me wrong, I love to ride with my kids and they are what got me into this sport. Anyone who will want to join me send your Email. I have some of them but not all.

The Tortoise
Formally "DougM"

Can I say Endoqwest Endoqwest Endoqwest .... See I have it in my mind now. And you might of thought I was a Bonehead. No offense Bonehead. Now that I can remember your handle Endoqwest I forgot your name: Jim, Adam, etc.

Posted by: wtrskigrl---------------------

I had so much fun and thanks to Kiwi for the riding tips and making me pick up my bike. I can tell that I have to have respect for that bike, but eventually I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. I'm sure everyone that rode my bike that weekend had fun with it (scott/tony). I probably could of sold some KTM's that weekend. I can't wait until the next trip. Hats of to strik! My fellow KTM rider.

I get no respect...

Look, I man handled a pig DR through that terrain and I ain't no young puppy either, so give me a break

With regards to the purchase, I'm a looong way off from that. Before I even consider getting a 200 I'll want to ride some 250's and 300's for comparison. I have a feeling I'll be unloading the 125 and moving to a 250 eventually.
