CRF 450 front suspension

Has anyone actually determined if there is a problem with the front forks. It seems like we are all experiencing the same thing.:silly:

Last night, I did a little test. I pushed the front suspension down pretty hard, and paid attention to how fast the rebound was. The rebound was set 12 clicks out. I then turned the settings all the way in for full slow rebound action. It felt the same. I didn't notice any difference. I know this isn't a great way to test the suspension, but last year, I did the same thing to my kX 250 and noticed a big difference. So, if this is somewhat of a valid test, something must be rong with the valving.:think

I too tried the same thing with mine on comp. and didn't feel any difference Some say they are fine .Mine feel like there locking up.

my crf suspension is considerably better than my 99 rm250.

MXA thinks the forks are fine, but the frame geometry is wrong. I sure hope not because I can have mx-tech fix my forks, I wouldnt know what to do about frame geometry problems.

There is somthing strange going on with opinions on these forks. Mine seem like they might have somthing wrong internally. After this week end I am tearing mine down to see if anything is wrong or possibly oil level is too high. I might get to ride another crf to compare mine to.

Guys, I've made a big mistake! I was comparing my forks to my KX250, not realizing that the fork settings on the Honda CRF are opposite of the KX. I should have read my manual first. The compression clickers are on top of the forks, and the rebound is on the bottom. So, when I was looking for rebound, I was actually getting more compression. I re-did my little test, and it seems right now,and I noticed there was plenty of rebound damping, so the valving is working. I'm going riding tomorrow. I'll play with it a little more, and see how it feels. I'll let you know the results now that I think I know what I'm doing!

I went riding at Englishtown NJ. They have a nice practice track. Lots of turns, doubles, triples and tables. I think the front suspension worked pretty good. I played with the setting a little. I turned a couple of clicks for more rebound, and down a couple on the compression. That seemed to work even better. I still feel the harshness when landing a big jump but it's not as bad as it was. I think the forks just need to be broken in a little more. I might try lowering the fork oil level a bit and see if that helps with the harshness.
Love that 4 stroke power!
