I let the dogs out around 11:30 last night and after a few minutes, I heard them barking. I went outside just in time to see them chase something into the bushes at the back of the yard. I whistled for them and they came running with their tails awaggin'. All was good until they came by me into the house. Oh god, I thought.....they chased a skunk!! Got the dogs outside quickly but the stench was already bringin' tears to my eyes. Those stupid, stupid dogs.

Took work off today to try and de-odorize the house and dogs. Think i got the house pretty good but I'm not sure about the dogs...not sure if the smell is gone or just masked. The dogs will spend another night outside!!

I hope I don't smell like skunk! lol.

Skunks...why did God create them?:think

I bet bbbom can help you with this particular problem.

Bath them in Tomato juice. That black and white kitty is one bad ombrey.

I maybe can help.
Go buy as much tomato juice as you can. Wash the dogs in the tomato juice.
The acid will neutralize the effects of the smell.
I've never had first hand experience with this, but it is what any older person will tell you to do. No other remedies that I know of.
I know a guy who had his modular home totaled due to a skunk getting under it and letting loose.

lol, Bswift....GMTA!

Another solution is smoke. Camping a couple years ago one of my dogs got skunked and since there was no access to Tomato juice another camper suggested putting the dog in the way of the campfire smoke. We actually started a smudge fire and put the dog by the smole. Next day he smelled smoky but no skunk smell- don't know how or why but it worked.

Our Schipperke got "skunked" once when he was a pup.
We tried the tomato soup trick, except all the stores around us were out of tomato soup!
So we tried using stewed tomatoes.
He kept trying to eat his bathwater!! :scream:

Hey guys!

Thanks for the advice and sympathy. Well, I used 3% hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and dishwashing soap to get the skunk out of the dog. I brought them in the house and delegated them to a back room tonight. I figure I will keep them there when at work just in case the skunk cometh back! The rest of the house doesn't smell like skunk but rather vanilla, vinegar, and all the other crap the wife and I used to try and cover up the smell.

Of course, I endured many, many "stinky" jokes and comments at work today. lol.

Simple green and duct tape fix everything. That is if the simple green won't get the skunk out, lock the dogs in a room and duct tape the doors.
