shaving weight off kdx

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

ok,, to make kdx lighter, i suppose you could replace the headlight with number plate, use mx rear fender, use fmf pipe and silencer, remove hand guards, and someone said tonite that you could remove reservoir. Are there anything else to be removed or changed to make it lighter?

Posted by: KiDX---------------------

How about running less fuel in the tank
If your really obsessed with the weight issue you could remove the kickstand and the grab rails under the rear fender, but chances are this would not be noticeable. It's the pipe and silencer that really shaves some weight off.

Aluminum rear sprocket, non-oring chain, lighter tires (MX vs. a desert tire), smaller seat foam, lighter air filter (twin air vs. stock), lighter wheels, TI & alum. bolts, light tubes (non H/D), TI bars, thin grips, relocate the ign box to the front of the bike & toss the extra wire along with the air box lid (which should be in the trash by now), ummm.... lighter piston, alum. clutch disks, drill the clutch basket, lighter rod, porting & milling (removes weight technicaly since were being anal), smaller tank (if you can find one), lighter fluids (your going to have to bring the scale to the bike shop for this one), that’s all I can think of for now.

The most cheapest and most effective way is to remove weight from the rider. But the parts guys don't want to hear that!

Posted by: Nevada Sixx---------------------

yea, losing ten pounds of fat and less fuel, and the kickstand sounds like that would make the biggest differances. the piston, and sprocket idea was cool too. thanks guys,,, if anyone else has an idea, lay it on me...

Instead of using air in the tires, you could try helium....it's lighter than air.:think

Posted by: Duneman---------------------

mine weighs 212 with out fuel he he, very light

and I'm seriuos

Posted by: Nevada Sixx---------------------

I joked with my brother today about helium in the tires,, that would be pretty tricked out,,,
Then i remembered that mud can weigh a bike down, so keeping it clean and away from mud could help, and im sure there are ways keep mud from clogging and sticking. Also, carbon fiber parts...

Posted by: MisShift---------------------

You could cut all the knobbies off your tires......:think

Posted by: woodchuck---------------------

remove all the decals:confused:

Posted by: agitt73---------------------

the kick stand should go at the race sunday i was having the best ride
ever until one of my kick stand bolts fell out it took me ten minutes to
take out the other bolt with a pair of pliers some how i managed to get
2 place (little c class) which still was very good considering i useally
place between 5th and 7th

I kinda liked David Trustrum's idea on making a bike lighter. Start removing parts until the bike quits running, then put the last part back on. Now your bike is as light as it can be.

Posted by: Sage---------------------

Tie balloons to it till it floats, then pop the last one to get it back on the ground.

Remove front brake and cut fornt rotor down. Cut handlebars to 26" or as small as possible, remove cross bar pad, remove rear splash guard, remove all chain guards, remove all washer from bolts and replace bolts with titanium and use liquid lock tight (sparingly), run less trans oil , and use less water in the radiator. Ok, everyone we can still make his KDX lighter. think, think, think, he he he

Cut off the rear half of the seat. You shouldn't use it anyway!
Or do a number 2 before you race... easily 5 pounds right there.

ride naked and duct tape a set of wings to your back.

just sell the dang thing and buy a lighter bike. For woods riding, how about a kx100 (150lbs), and bore it out to a 125. You could rip through the woods on that thing.

Posted by: yzeater---------------------

Remove your air box. Remove your grips. Remove your plastics. Remove your tires (you have rims). Remove your brakes, brake lines. Cut several chunks from your swingarm. Remove radiators. Heck, take your piston out.

Posted by: MisShift---------------------

Hey, does anyone have another stick? The last one seemes to have broken over the dogs back.

Posted by: KiDX---------------------

Light-weight titanium footpegs.

Posted by: hillclimberr---------------------

you could remove your tires and weld angle iron to the rims. Can you say traction?
