Linkage slack?

I was out earlier checking the tension on my chain and when tightening the axle bolt the whole swingarm would move up maybe 1/4 inch(bike on stand) . I tipped the bike while doing it to try and see where the slack was but couldn't tell? Is it normal to have slack in the linkage area before the suspension comes into play? :silly:

You have bad linkage bearings , if your bearings were good you would have no slop
